OT: Jimmie Dougherty to UCLA
After a cup of coffee in Eugene, former Michigan analyst Jimmie Dougherty is off to UCLA to work with Fisch. Dougherty is expected to get a passing game coordinator title bump.
The upward mobility of Michigan analysts has to help in acquiring/retaining more great coaches. The Harbaugh coaching tree is going to be wild in a few years.

Eh this was more of a mutual parting considering Dougherty got in trouble with Oregon's OC who was drunk driving. Dougherty was in the passenger seat intoxicated as well. The OC got fired.
Oregon ironically got an upgrade b/c they are going to get Dameyune Craig from LSU who's a really good recruiter from a very talent rich area.

It's not a good look for anyone to be intoxicated and passed out, but there's nothing immoral or illegal about being drunk in the passenger seat of a car. Maybe some people think he should have stopped Reaves from driving drunk, but that's Reaves's own fault.

The morality of being in a car driven by someone you know to be intoxicated is at least debateable. He didn't just fall from the sky into the passenger seat. He should know just as well as the driver to arrange alternate transportation.

When you are drunk to the point of passing out, I don't think you know much at all and definitely are not weighing your decisions using a moral compass. Maybe the only morality issue is getting that intoxicated in public in the first place, but that's more of a personal morality than an American standard.

you could make the exact same argument for the driver. When you go out drinking you need to think about how you are getting home. It' was reckless behavior that could easily endanger others as well as themselves. They know better and from a moral standpoint I see very little difference in their behavior.

If something happens to my son or daughter I'm mad at the driver and not blaming everyone with or around the driver who could have stopped him. I mean, how far do we go? Was it the moral responsibility of the person serving them drinks to make sure the driver was not inebriated? Was it the moral responsibility of all the people who watched him get in the car? I just choose the line where I hold the person who committed the act that endangered lives accountable and not each and every person who may have been able to intervene. Also, I generally hold the person with the highest responsibility more accountable for their actions than the person lowest on the totem poll.
I understand what you are saying and would definitely behave differently myself, but I guess I'm just slower to cast moral judgement.

Right, your decisions aren't good when wasted. Which is why you figure out a plan before you get totally hammered whether it be having a sober buddy, taxi etc so that neither you nor anyone in your party is driving home drunk. Pretty basic stuff.

Are you assuming that he didn't do those things and didn't get assurance from his boss that he was OK to drive? Are you doing this just because he was passed out in the car with the driver.

I'm not a heavy drinker, so I'm not going to defend drinking to the point of total intoxication. However, the onus is on the driver to know whether he's had too much. There's no telling whether Reaves was stumbling around drunk or was acting just fine. If Dougherty asked him before they got in the car, "Hey, are you okay to drive?" and Reaves said, "Yeah, dude, I'm totally fine. I'll get you home safe," then that's an entirely plausible explanation. There are plenty of people who are technically "drunk" (above the legal BAC) who don't necessarily show outward signs of being wasted, especially to someone else who's intoxicated.

Not illegal, but I don't agree with that not being immoral. Being drunk in the passenger seat is fine, if the driver is sober. If the driver's drunk, both driver and passenger should have known that calling an Uber was the right play. There are some basic rules to having a night of drunken fun without screwing it up for the rest of the world and he violated one of them.

If he was too drunk to say something to the driver of the car, that doesn't make him innocent. Both of them should've been smart enough to have someone pick them up, take a taxi or uber. There is no excuse for drunk driving or allowing someone to drive drunk.

Again, we could go to a bar, and you wouldn't necessarily know who's too drunk to drive and who's not. Sure, some guy might be stumbling around and tripping over chairs, and he's obviously not fit to drive. Another guy might have the motor skills to kick everyone's ass at pool. Generally, people aren't equipped with Breathalyzers to check whether their chauffeur for the evening is technically drunk or not.

...but I disagree. If you go out drinking you shouldn't drive. Blood alcohol content of .08 is the standard in most states and it takes very little to blow .08. At minimum you risk your job by driving after drinking. At worst...

First with the strength coach. Then his co-OC was forced out after a DUI last week. Dougherty was a passenger in his car. I'm guessing that had something to do with his sudden departure.
