OT: Jimbo Fisher bans players from going to bars

Submitted by Blueblood2991 on

In an attempt to put out the dumpster fire that is the FSU program, Jimbo has prohibited all members of the football team from going to bars.

I could completely understand banning all players under 21, but that seems unfair to stop the legal age students.  Good for Fisher for trying to change the culture, but he still looks like a joke.  Instead of admitting that he needs to recruit higher integrity players, he comes up with this.  None of Winston's antics involved bars...

EDIT: Winston's alleged rape saga started out at a bar.  Jimbo must be right...it's all the bar's fault.  No accountability needed to be had by him

You know, I can't help but wonder what would happen if perhaps Jimbo and FSU's staff maybe tried something novel like, oh, developing character and finding means to discourage such behavior, not to mention revolutionary cultural changes like caring about people. They could always give it a try - you won't help everyone, but you'd help quite a few. Saying something like, "No more bars" in this case is a lot like telling your players, "I do NOT want to see ANYONE with a thermonuclear warhead on school property. The AD made that very clear the last time someone lit up."

because the nature of the news cycle is stuff is BIG NEWS for a hot second before it's passed for something else. No one will be talking about this in a week as long as FSU players stop punching women in the face. Jimbo can pound his fists now and say "No bars for you!" and everyone will say "ah, good" then come fall when everyone's back in class no one will remember or care about Jimbo's declaration (including Jimbo) and everyone's back in the bars again

Bo didn't like his players in bars either. If they came to school to party then they shouldn't be on the football team.

He can't keep those kids from the bars. The culture in Tallahassee is that all those kids are above the law.

Have to credit him for trying, but until he proves otherwise, this is more a PR move than anything.

Now he just needs to ban them from hitting other men and women, shoplifting, sexually assaulting others, and basically being idiots.  That's been their problem; they weren't told not to do those things explicitly.

Jimbo clearly didn't pay attention to the details of this latest incident. Dalvin Cook punched a woman OUTSIDE a bar. I'm not even sure he violated any FSU team rules at this point.

Living in a bubble is not going to help. Kids screw up. It is our responsibility to educate them to make the right choice. Sit their asses down for games. Banning from bar doesn't cut it. Domestic violence happens more often at home.

What are you talking about Winston's antics didn't have anything to do with bars?

Didn't he pick the chick up from a bar, they both were drunk and he took her back home? Not sure, but I feel like both sides have agreed to that much.

Good catch.  It was originally reported that it was Winston's roommate that left with her, but after a quick google it looks like Jameis admitted to being at the bar at the FSU hearing.  I'll edit OP.

FSU had these types of problems under Bobby Bowden as well FSU has had those problems for years now and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Jimbo has to lay down the law to his players that this crap has got to stop he should have kicked out RB that just got in trouble like he did the QB, which I don't care if the women said the N word or not you don't hit a women ever walk away and just leave.
