OT: Jerry Kill suffers another seizure today

Per GophersNow. http://twitter.com/#!/GophersNow

It's the 3rd tweet down.

EDIT: Kill released in a press statement that "We believe that taking some time away to get a handle on this is the right thing to do."

i watched last night game and thought towards the end, he did not look very good at all.  His face looked red and blotchy, clearly not healthy, and it did not look like he was just PO'd about how poorly his team played; it looked more than that.  I would not be surprised to hear that the seizure started near the end of last nights game and manifested later on well after the game.

It is unfortunate knowing the work he put in to get a job in a major conference. I don't think you can continue to have that sort of reaction to the stress of his job.

I'm not surprised. Still better than the Vikings though. (zing!)

All joking aside though, that is really unfortunate. I have a lot of respect for him to keep on coaching through all the bad health luck life has thrown at him. Sounds like a guy who inspires by example and definitely deserves better than a dead end place like Minnesota. Hopefully he can get the ship righted and make for some exciting jug games like we had when Mason was there.

I'm a die hard Michigan fan (from Plymouth, MI), but I have lived in Minneapolis since '99.  I thought the Gophers finally hired an excellent coach.  I wish him and his family all the best and hope he can bring the Gophers back to relevance so Michigan can really enjoy winning the Brown Jug!

I wish him a speedy recovery, or at the very least, someone will find the cause and help him manage his symptoms. That's never good to  hear, but at least he has chosen to focus on his health, which is the best thing to do for him and his family.

Does anyone know if this has become more frequent since he's been at Minnesota?  I know that he's dealt with the underlying disorder for awhile, but I don't know if he was having seizures this frequently at Northern Illinois.

Hope we as fans on Saturday can find a way to show our respect and concern.  Maybe by at least not booing Minnesota when they're announced.  This is a tough situation for them and he really does seem like a class act.  Hope he gets his health in order and can continue to coach.

I would like to see it done. Unfortunately, the percentage of fans in the big house that are aware of his problems is most likely vastly outnumbered by the bunch that boo anything not maize and blue. The only way I can see this happening is if they make an announcement, much like they did last year when the band director from UMass passed away.

Last year, even before the announcement of UMass, most people knew.  In fact, most people in our section were discussing it before the game began.  I suspect the same will be true.  This is not a secret, and I expect the M crowd to be respectful.  After all,  there isn't a person in the stadium who can't identify with a guy recovering from cancer.

Coaching is a 100 hour a week job.  It brings down people who are perfectly healthy.  He is obviously prone to seizures; maybe a job that requires 40 hours a week or less would be the way to go.  I hope he can catch on with the media.

I don't know if it's wise to continue to be a big time football coach with those problems.  It's stressful enough to coach under that kind of pressure with relatively good health.

Kill is a very good coach and a good recruiter also.

A lot of people live with epilepsy and other disorders that cause seizures.  Medicines today are outstanding (compared to the past) in controlling seizures, all things being equal. But when you don't intake enough fluids, the medicines are ineffective and things aren't equal anymore.

Wish him a fast recovery.

He will not be on the sidelines for the Michigan game

" The school did not announce a timetable for Kill's return and didn't announce an interim coach for this weekend's game against Michigan, but Kill stressed in a statement that he was making his health a priority."

I really think Kill needs to move down a level or two in coaching.  He has the talent to be a BCS level coach, but his body just won't let him.  He should drop back to MAC school or FCS school where there is less stress and you don't have to work such insane hours.

Best of luck on his recovery and his future health, but it looks like he's done at Minny.

It kind of depends what's causing them. If they are stress related then clearly it needs to be taken care of before he starts going into high stress situations. If it's not stress related and it's not doing any real damage to him then.... I don't know. I want this man to be able to live his life with this condition because he's a fighter and I don't know how that can happen.

The minute he gets a big name job, his health holds him back. I wonder if he could take a leave of absence for a few months and try to recover for 2012. Not that Minn wants their brand new coach to leave, but it might be better for them in the long run.

I've battled seizures and know the extensive limitations it will put on him at least in the short term until the doctors can get a handle on this and get the right meds for him.

I hope he and his family will take the most conservative approach...the kind of seizures he is having can lead to sudden death. Prayers for him...

Absolutely impressed that everyone handled this the right way-- Nice job, MGoBlog!  Leaders and Best!

All prayers to a full recovery for Coach Kill.  This is certainly a 'big picture' sort of scenario, and as much as we all try to prove otherwise, football is a game.  A man's life, and more immediately, his quality of life, hangs in the balance here--  hope he can find some balance or otherwise peace in the decision-making that sits before him.

I just wanted to pop in and thank the Michigan fans, specifically those here on MGoBlog for being respectful about this situation with our coach.  As you can imagine, some members of other fan bases aroung the B1G have been less than polite about the entire situation.  Needless to say, it's stressful for the Gopher faithful, as we want Kill to be well for his family first and foremost, and hopefully beyond that for the Golden Gophers as well.

Thanks again
