In his physical by the Eagles for the Harrison/Brown trade, they discovered a brain tumor. The attempted trade may have saved his life.
OT: Jerome Harrison has a brain tumor
That is crazy. Hopefully it is not life threatening...but if it is, hopefully they detected it in enough time to treat him and he can recover to continue his career.
OFFICIALLY REQUESTING: we need a new "Never Forget" banner like the one made for Michigan DBs a while back.
- Mikel Leshoure (achilles)
- Jahvid Best (concussions)
- Jerome Harrison (brain tumor)
- Ronnie Brown (the Lion that almost was)
- Barry Sanders (retirement)
- James Stewart (shoulder)
- Kevin Smith (knee)
- Kevin Jones (foot)
pre-season injury when Mooch had him playing way too far into the game sucked real bad. He was a hard runner and had rusehd for 1,000 the prior year.
Why did it take the Eagles' staff to find the tumor. Brain tumors don't usually pop up over night. This makes me wonder about the quality of care Lions players are getting from the staff and goes hand in hand with Best being told to forgo the rest of the season by someone close to him (not the Lions themselves).
That is very bad news, although lucky that the trade happened and they were able to find the tumor and treat it early. According to the article, the prognosis is good. It should remind everyone that there are more important things than the game of football.
The Lions still need a running back, and unfortunately this means they couldn't get Ronnie Brown.
How is that worse?
I think he means it makes the football situation worse by adding to it, not by comparing it to a brain tumor.
Holy crap. As a Cleveland Brown season ticket holder I still remember Jerome going absolutely OFF in the last 6 games of the 2009 season and then completely disapearing the beginning of 2010 only to be traded soon after to the Eagles.
I hope he's ok.
Our beers froze before we could drink them. He was unhappy with how he was being used that next season and made it very well known. Those last 4-5 games were fun, I hope he gets healthy.
I wonder if it was only in the last 2-3 years (when concussions have become a huge issues) that NFL teams did head scans as part of a physical. My guess is they didn't - they probably just made sure your legs, arms, neck and conditioning were all in good working order and if so, you were good to go.
So, not only is he lucky he was traded, but traded during this new era of "brain health" in sports.
Best wishes to Jerome.
Hope it is treatable, thankful it was found. Best of wishes to you young man.
Ah man, I was upset about the trade falling through but thank heavens they were able to find it. I hope he's ok.
First- as to Harrison that is a crazy story. I hope all goes well for him.
If Best is also out we need to sign someone. I wonder if Tiki is still worth a look.
Tiki ain't happening. The only people I ever hear talking about Tiki joining a team is Tiki and fans. I don't think the Coaches of any team will sign him
thing about this...If Jahvid Best doesn't get injured, do the Lions even attempt to make the trade? Obviously we now know that without the trade, the tumor isn't discovered. This is proof that everything really does happen for a reason. Get well soon, Jerome!
The trade deadline passed I believe.
What free agents are out there? Maybe Mike Hart or Brandon Minor are going to have to come out of retirement because the Lions may literally have no one at RB if Best does shut it down.
is playing flag football out in Canton at HVS if anyone needs a RB.
Obviously this is not good news that Harrison has a brain tumor and I wish him all the best. But how lucky is he that he plays professional football? How long would this have gone unnoticed if he were in most other fields?
Probably not until: A, a yearly physical (which to be honest, how often do people really keep up with those?). B, he collapses or goes to see a doctor complaining of major headaches constantly. or C, he hurts himself somewhere else and during his stay in the hospital has a scan.
He's very lucky indeed, and I hope this is treatable
It's very fortunate they discovered this for Jerome. Jahvid Best might not have much of a career in the NFL with trouble he is having wit concussions which is too bad. So far this year Detroit Lions running backs have a torn achilles, brain tumor, and multiple concussions which will probably end all of their seasons. Yikes.
Anyone know where Brandon Minor is? Lions should sign him!
from whatever roster he was on most recently, but I'm not home where I have access to my obsessive NFL alumni- tracking list. (Will check later if someone hasn't already confirmed or corrected me.)
Dang. I hope Harrison & Best get well.
Hopefully Harrison can recover and perhaps play again. Thoughts go out to him and his family - that has to be shattering news.
what a news to J Harrison
Very fortunate they were gonna trade him
Best of luck to him and his family. At least they caught it in time.
