OT: Jed York and the gift that keeps on giving

Submitted by FauxMichBro on

On replacing coach Jim Harbaugh: “We’re trying to win a Super Bowl. We haven’t been able to do that. And I think what we’re trying to do is build a team that focuses on our core strengths. I think we got away from that a little bit. I think we tried to do too much and be something that we weren’t. I think you’re gonna see us get back to the basics, get back to letting our players go out and make plays….You look at our offense last year. It wasn’t I think where it should have been. I think we have better talent than what our results showed.”

Does he remember that the 49er's hadn't been to the playoffs for almost a decade before Harbaugh came?  Does he really think 49er's fans are dumb? Does he really believe what he is saying?

Either way, thank you Jed York for being a complete moron and giving us Harbaugh.

What a complete moron. His team was completely irrelevant for years before Harbaugh showed up. Harbaugh made them relevant, got them to 3 NFC title games in 3 years, almost won a Super Bowl, and this asshat still ran him out of town. Any team that's not New England would kill for that kind of success.

But thank you for your idiocy, York. You gave us Harbaugh, so I'm eternally grateful that you ran a top-5 coach out of town so you could get your yes man. If you're not cleaning out your office in the next year or two, I'd be shocked.

Does this guy remind anyone else of an NFL version of Dave Brandon? His my way or the highway attitude seems very much the same as DB. And we all know how that worked out for ol' pizza boy.

When you have personnel like Colin Kaepernick, Michael Crabtree & Mario Manningham in the NFL and can only get to the Superbowl it's CLEARLY an indication of under-performing.

Just wait until this year guys, with Tomsula running the show and pesky guys like Harbaugh, Patrick Willis, Chris Borland and Frank Gore gone, they're primed to win it all.

This story is amazing. I can't imagine a team making worse decisions than SF has made this offseason. Getting rid of Harbaugh so you can go back to basics? Here's a basic lesson that all NFL owners should understand: let football people make football decisions and stay out of their way.

This man is among the most delusional in the league. Daddy's boy. Way out of his element. Your franchise wallowed in the depths of .500 hell for a long, long time until Harbaugh showed up, transformed the 9ers into a playoff team almost overnight, and now you're theorizing about what went wrong and poking holes in it? Seriously?

I bet he'd get impatient if Bill Belicheck was there.

That's what I've thought with this guy too. A guy born with a silver spoon in his mouth who's had everything handed to him. Quits his first job in college after a year to go work for Mommy and Daddy where they hand their son the reins to an entire NFL organization.

I don't have much basis to back this up, but my gut feel is York is like a baby who gets his toy taken away from him. He doesn't like not having his way, despite not knowing what the hell he's doing. He struck gold when Harbaugh came to town, and then he somehow managed to run the best thing that's happened to that team in over a decade right out of town. He brings his own yes man in who won't challenge his authority.

But now he'll have to deal with the wrath of the fans and maybe even some of the players. Would not be surprised if the outcry is so much against him that he's essentially forced out in a year or so.

Listen, it's hard to keep perspective when you're born on 3rd base.

SF fans seem really bummed out by this team's outlook due to the ownership/leadership in the front office, and frankly I don't blame them.

Very curious. Their core strengths were having a stout defense, a legit run game, and an awesome head coach. The personnel that have left SF this offseason all contributed to those items listed.

Oh, beautiful. If Jed York is to be taken at his word, the team got away from its core strengths playing under Jim Harbaugh. That's going to be a fun line to sell to a fanbase that is clearly facing a rebuilding year. I can only think that a lot of 49ers fans put their heads into the nearest wall after hearing that. There's also this:

If anyone needs a good laugh, run over to Wikipedia and read up on all of Jed's qualifications for running a franchise... Bachelors from ND (good start)... 1 year at Guggenheim then quit.. Became a director or something made up.. Then VP of that made up thing before being named President and CEO at age 28 or 29... This guy is so "Silver Spoon" he literally has to be polished periodically or he will rust.

He fired Harbaugh and replaced him with a guy that has never even been a coordinator before. Several marquee players are gone from the squad, the QB position will undoubtedly take a hit without Harbaugh, and I can't see them winning more than 6 games in the West. The Seahawks should be as good or better, the cardinals should be real solid (if they have healthy starting QB), and the Rams should be much improved with the addition of Foles. I hope Tomsula knows wha he's walking into...

I don't see the Harbaugh replacement as a good hire or anything even close to resembling an upgrade, but I don't see what being a coordinator has to do with coaching ability. There are some very excellent pro football coaches that weren't ever coordinators.

John Harbaugh, for example. He was a career special teams coach before taking the Ravens job. No OC/DC experience at ANY level. Also, Jim was never a coordinator at any level before going to SF. Although he did have head coaching experience at San Diego and Stanford.

Point being, I don't think having OC/DC experience really is a determining factor in ability to be a head coach.

Look how well he turned out for the Lions.

I think the thing that is going to really hamstring Tomsula is his staff.  Harbaugh has been known for surrounding himself with a top-notch coaching staff.  Tomsula has a bunch of who-dats.  Combined with the massive turnover seen on that team...
