OT: Jay Vincent in Jail

Submitted by Belisarius on

Former Spartan and Magic Johnson teammate Jay Vincent, also late of the Mavericks, Bullets, Spurs etc., etc., voluntarily surrendered bond today and will be incarcerated pending his sentencing. This happened in response to charges that he continued defrauding people in relation to a purported semi-pro basketball league which appears never to have existed. Vincent had already entered a guilty plea in regard to other accusations of fraud and was awaiting sentence on bond.

Ex-Michigan players get DUI's and speeding tickets.  Ex-MSU players get booked for felonies.    At least this one wasn't a violent crime.  That's a lot better than the usual Sparty fare.

Uh, ever heard of a guy named Rumeal Robinson??  The fact is that we're all human and some people will flush their entire lives down the drain over some stupid stuff.  Where you went to school has no bearing on things like this.  In fact, if we had a real justice system half of the Ivy League grads would be in prison for all the white collar frauds they've committed.

Michigan men don't commit violent crimes? Boubacar Cissoko? Felonies and they were violent. Not trying to be a dick and be "that guy", but glass houses and the rocks and throwing of the rocks.. Or something along those lines.

Yeah, he defrauded his mom and a whole group of investors.  He was simply a victim of his own ambition.  His project started out legit but when the real estate bubble burst he couldn't admit he failed so he just frauded the hell out of everyone, and doesn't seem to feel too bad about it either.  It's a damn shame, that guy was a hero of mine when I was a kid.

I always liked Rumeal, but that is some low stuff to do that his mom.  You are right though, people from all walks of life do stupid crap and there are consequences for those actions.  Also, our justice system is a complete joke.  White Collar criminals get away with way worse than most criminals in the prison system.  They ruin multiple peoples lives and get away with a slap on the wrist, while people who possess drugs get 10yr sentences for harming themselves.  I can't disagree with anything Umich4life said.
