Too bad it wasn't for being the most annoying sports personality alive...

I agree Woody is incredibly annoying, although some of the musings on his chalkboard during the show make me laugh.
I've met Mariotti before in Chicago and he is every bit the deusch he appears to be on TV.

Is that like some sort of douche from Munich?
August 21st, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
I thought the same thing. I don't believe the guy met Maritooti anyway. Besides, Mariottiti is a self serving idiot just like everyone else in the media!

But in Jay's case, I'll make an exception.

now who will I not watch on ESPN
August 21st, 2010 at 2:20 PM ^
I've got two words for you sir: Skip. Bayless.
August 21st, 2010 at 2:42 PM ^
In fact, I'm currently not watching him as we speak. But I meant that now I need someone new to not watch.
August 21st, 2010 at 3:14 PM ^
It's Yossarian's name, sir.

that this is the beginning of a major trend.

You're on notice.
You too, Cowherd.

Talk about a beatdown. Never heard this before, thanks for the post. More proof that Ozzie Guillen should be wired 24-7. Paraphrasing my favorite line: "I wish I could see him to call him that face to face, but he's only in the bars. He's nowhere aroun'."

Not happy someone took a beating for this arrest to happen, but I'm glad Marriotti will probably not be on TV for a while, at least until someone else does the same thing and this is forgotten.
August 21st, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
Just muted him and deducted 100 points... he will not make it to Facetime.
August 21st, 2010 at 9:15 PM ^
would likely have resulted in an injury to Jay Mariotti's girlfriend.
But how do we know that she didn't beat the daylights out of Jay? Has Jay ever successfully beaten anyone up?
August 21st, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
I guess now we are only making him more infamous?
August 21st, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
...of the WashPo DC Sports Bog giving it to Mariotti:
dcsportsbog Mariotti on Gil, after suspension: "You just lost everything you worked for in life, all because you thought you were too cool for school."
dcsportsbog Mariotti on Gil: "This is Exhibit A of how to destroy a career, how to blow a $111 million contract."
dcsportsbog Mariotti on Gil, pre-guilty plea: "Gilbert Arenas abused the system....Today, he's just another creep about to fade away."
August 21st, 2010 at 3:17 PM ^
in karma.
In a perfect world, ruled by a tough minded but fair God, Mariotti would get ass-raped in jail today.
August 21st, 2010 at 4:17 PM ^
a little coarse. My apologies.
August 21st, 2010 at 11:56 PM ^
You seem to have a sort of fantasy about hard, hot male sex.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. Hey, whatever blows your skirt up, fella.
August 21st, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
Federal pound Jay in the ass prison?
August 21st, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
The article says Mariotti got in to an argument with his girlfriend. Unfortunately Jay did not realize that in the real world, you do not win arguments by spouting idiotic assertations very loudly.
August 21st, 2010 at 3:54 PM ^
Mariotti is about as straight as a circle.
August 21st, 2010 at 4:05 PM ^
Huh? You mean to tell me that Jay Mariotti would act like an ass in public, scream at somebody all the way home, then CONTINUE that argument into the house and enrage the other person? And THEN hit the smaller person when she does not agree with him? You must be joking, for that is not the Jay Mariotti that I have grown up with.

Here is a nice piece by Jay's former colleague, Roger Ebert, at the Sun times.

...does not like JM, apparently.
TeddyGreenstein Mariotti arrested? File that under: When bad things happen to (really) bad people.
August 21st, 2010 at 6:03 PM ^
Good. Put that piece of shit away for a while. And if it's possible for Dan Lebatard and Skip Bayless to run over by the same train, we'd be off to a good start cleaning up ESPN.
August 21st, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
...was supposed to start a new ESPN Radio show next week with Jalen Rose in LA. I certainly don't care that Mariotti's career is toast, but I do hope that ESPN will find another co-host for Jalen and soon.
Mariotti moved to Los Angeles two months ago in an attempt to relaunch his radio career. ESPN sources in L.A. and Bristol tell me that Mariotti was due to launch a morning show from 6-8am PT with Jalen Rose in the near future on ESPN-owned KSPN-AM in Los Angeles.
If the show did well during the Lakers season, I was told that ESPN execs were considering moving the duo to another more prominent daypart on the station.
But from what I’ve been told today by ESPN sources inside the Disney-owned company, those plans may soon be moot.

if a tranny hooker were not involved in this story somehow.
August 21st, 2010 at 11:28 PM ^
As a Sox fan, fuck you Mariotti. You had it coming! OK OK sorry but I feel better.
August 22nd, 2010 at 2:39 AM ^
don't you find this ironic? I know i do.
Sportswriter and noted a-hole Jay Mariotti has been arrested for domestic assault. The LAPD is saying he and his girlfriend left a club arguing, and Mariotti "pushed and shoved her, and also left marks on her arm." A little hypocritical, don't you think, coming from a dude who called for stricter MLB punishments for violent baseball players.
