OT: James Best aka Rosco P. Coltrane has passed away.

Submitted by SalvatoreQuattro on

For many thirty and forty somethings the Dukes of Hazzard was appointment television.  Luke, Duke, Uncle Jesse and Daisy vs  Rosco and Boss Hogg. Classic kid tv shows(although it didn't start out that way). Oh and the 69'  Charger.heart

Rosco passed away yesterday.

Godspeed, Mr Best.  Thank you for providing so many laughs  to so many little brats. May you catch them Duke boys in heaven.

I thought his name was Roscoe Picotrane.  Also, a little later in life my Parents bought a Bassett Hound puppy and I campaigned for his name to be Flash (my sister won, and he was named Crawford) That is all I have to share. RIP Mr. Best

May you find your place at rest amongst great lawmen of the South to include:

Sheriff Buford T Justice

The Bear (from BJ and The Bear)

I'm a gonna leave work today and just for grins in Ol' Rosco's honor, take the Old Miller Road back home instead of the interstate. Sure it's dirt, poorly marked, has trees within 2 feet of the driving surface, and the bridge hasn't been fixed in 15 years. Let's see if the Ford Focus can finally make that jump.

It is amazing in a generation and a half how easy it is to get to "nekkid girls".  Back then Catherine Bach and JCPenny catalog (bra section) was the best thing you had if you didnt have a dad or older brother who had access to a Playboy.  Granted Daisy Duke was not naked but with those shorts - it was as close as possible for normal TV.

Kids these days... have it so easy.

There was a Dukes commercial last night during the basketball game and I was telling my wife I couldn't believe he was a part of it.  Him and Boss Hogg made 1PM on Channel 50 in Detroit must see TV during my summer vacations.

Am I the only one who thinks Roscoe P Coltrane lives on in the form of one Bill Raftery?

Thanks for the memories and good times!  My brother and I were locked on this show every Friday night.  We get up and go bike riding the next day, jumping homemade ramps made out of old wood doors and hard plastic coca cola bottle crates, jumping curbs, skidding in the driveway, tearing down dirt hills and acting all Dukes of Hazard. We'd do ChiPs too, by the way.

You know, that Boss Hogg character was played by an accomplished Shakespearean actor named Sorrell Booke with an undergrad from Columbia and an MFA from Yale.

Thus endeth my knowledge of odd Dukes of Hazzard trivia.

Roscoe P. Coltrane has to be my favorite bad-guy-you-secretly-rooted-for of all time.

Right there with, like, every character John Travolta played in the 90's.

Whatever happened to Rosco P. Coldchain?  The rapper that was with Pharell about 10 years ago?  Pusha T is still doing his thing.  Is he in jail or something?

This was before most areas had cable TV and before ESPN. All we had in the 70s were  sitcoms and the occasional Michigan football game that was broadcast on Saturday Afternoon.
