OT: Jake Long suffers likely ACL tear
It's been a bad year for Michigan Men's ACLs, both for those wearing the maize and blue and those playing on Sundays. It looks like Jake Long tore his ACL in the Rams' game yesterday, and he likely won't be ready for the start of the 2014 season. This makes it that much more likely the Rams will look for a tackle with one of their first round picks ... maybe Taylor Lewan and Jake will be teammates?
This is on top of other NFL Wolverines suffering ACL tears this season -- Stevie Brown of the Giants and Jonas Mouton of the Chargers.
Get well soon, Jake!

He won't be ready for September? He should be able to...isn't the timeline for ACLs like 3-4 weeks nowadays? /s

some predictions that Taylor Lewan may have ended up in St Louis, discussions we had on the blog last week. Weird that Jake has an ACL injury given all that. I live in St Louis, so I'd love to buy his jersey next year...
My best wishes to Jake though for a thorough recovery.

"Championship loss"
No. It's the whole ride through the Tournament we got to see. The first game agains SDSU we realized 2011-2012 wasn't happening again. The second win got us to the Sweet 16. THE FUCKING SWEET 16 TREY BURKE OMG! The pillagin of Florida. The awesome performance against Syracuse and their vaunted Zone and beating Michael Carter-Williams. The best overall collegiate basketball game played in a long time, to end the ride, even thougha loss.
March and April 2013 were great.

And the second win was a thorough dismantling of the vaunted VCU "Havoc" press, right when we were the trendy pick to get upset.
Over the course of the tourney, Beilein beat Shaka Smart, Bill Self, Billy Donovan and Jim Boeheim - four straight coaches with Final Four experience, and the last three former national champions. It was a fantastic run. I think it's a shame that many here apparently don't care enough about basketball to have appreciated it.

Dear 2013,
My kid spent over 300 days in the hospital in 2013. So, fuck you, 2013.
Regards,
Perspective

You have every right to hate 2013 (along with those who are enduring and have clsoe family enduring cancer and other such illnesses). Hope all is well and that 2014 brings more joy!

Wait! 2013 included a national championship run by Burke, Hardaway and company. It was not all bad.
Edit: This was meant as a reply to Bisb's post.

Since then, the relationship has turned sour. Is there any question left that, however charming 2013 was in the early days, it is a dick now?

2013 has turned out to be a meth-smoking, goat-screwing, glue-sniffing, shit-fondling, sterno-drinking pederast with rotten teeth, breath that would knock over a pig, and a bodily aroma that would stop Satan in his tracks.

Rams will not go after Lewan. Because Jake got in before the rookie salary scale, he is already the highest paid tackles in the league, and he is on the hook for $9.2MM next season, so they're not gonna go out and sign another tackle when they already owe Long so much.
December 23rd, 2013 at 10:58 AM ^
Your 2nd sentenance does not compute? Long signed a FA deal this offseason whose value was determined by his being one of the best tackles in the league. The fact that he benefited from the old pay scale is irrelevant.

Not sure why Jake's big contract would keep the Rams from drafting another first-round tackle on the new (lower) rookie pay scale.
A ton of mock drafts have the Rams taking OT Jake Matthews out of A&M with their first pick, which looks likely to be in the top 3 -- it's one of the picks the Redskins owe the Rams from the RGIII trade in the 2012 draft (and boy, is that trade looking better for the Rams every day). If they don't take an offensive tackle there, they have their own first-round pick at around #15 that they could also use on a tackle (and Lewan's being slotted in the mid-first by lots of mock drafts). The Rams moved Rodger Saffold, a tackle they drafted a few years back in the second round, to guard this year (where's he's been pretty good), and he's a free agent who's likely gone after the season for a bigger paycheck somewhere else. This Rams blog has a good run down on their draft needs and the likelihood they take a tackle.
Point is, I think it's pretty likely the Rams come out of the first round with a tackle, whether it's Taylor or someone else.

Just about died when Long went down. Hadn't considered the idea that we could draft Lewan. Boy oh boy would that be awesome.

This sucks. Jake is really good at this thing called football.

This might be the cherry on the shit sundae we called 2013.

Would be sweet to see Long and Lewan play opposite of each other on the Rams line. In the meantime, I hope Long recovers quickly from his ACL tear.

Unfortunate for Jake. He was off to a hall of fame caliber start to his career, but injuries have derailed that. Sad as it is to say, he's definitely earned the title of injury prone at this point. Hopefully he can shake it and get back to being one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL.
