Sounds to me like they are in it together and trying to keep the house from the creditors. In bankruptcy, not everything is as it seems.

That lease 'screams' protection from creditors.

Everyone Murders

If you read the story, I think you may change your mind.  There has been strife between Johnson and his parents for several years now.  They took control of Johnson's finances and turned millions of his money into thousands, all while spending lavishly on themselves.

This doesn't read like "collusion between debtors to avoid collection".  This reads like his parents are not good people.

My solution?  Mr. and Mrs. Johnson should adopt Rumeal Robinson.  It's a match made in Heaven!

As I recall, it was a $15 million contract when he signed it, but it was maybe a year into it when his parents racked up the bulk of the debt, which totalled some $12 million or so at then end of the day. I think it was back in September of last year when Johnson was in court trying to get his case converted to Chapter 7 so he could keep some of his earnings.

His parents are horrible people.

I wonder if Jack could argue fraudulent inducement since his parents were lying to him about basically everything when he signed the lease for them.

While I find what I've heard about this case to be despicable, keep in mind that many Michigan fans absolutely loved Jack's Dad when he was dancing in the aisles at Yost. People are talking about him as if he's an abstract, rather than a guy many cheered and interacted with.

I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish with this anecdote?

So, back when Jack was in college, the dad was popular in the stands and people loved him because he was fun and his son was on the team, and he had yet to screw over his son in any way.

Then, years later, people find out the dad has allegedly ruined his son financially, and now people are mad at the dad....

So you are saying, because he danced in the aisles and people liked that, that we should still like him?

People know murderers before they murder too.  Doesn't make them not murderers.

All it tells you is that horrible people can ACT like cool people, even though they are in reality horrible people.  And this is not really surprising information.  It doesn't mean that the horrible people were really good people in the past.  They were probably always horrible, you just didn't know it yet.

To show how far hockey is off my radar, my first thought was "why should I care about that Hawaiian singer going to court?" Then I thought, "wait, could be mean the former heavyweight champion? No, he's long dead..."
