OT: Its all in the name

Just came across this article , How junior college star God's Gift Achiuwa got his name

"From Providence's God Shammgod to Seattle's Austen Powers to Alabama State's Chief Kickingstallionsims, college basketball has featured dozens of players with memorable names.

By this time next year, we could have another name to add to the list.

Meet God's Gift Achiuwa, a 6-foot-9 forward at Erie Community College who has already caught the attention of some high-profile Division I programs because of both his stellar play and unusual name. The Nigeria native's father is a minister, so the first name he chose for his son is a reflection of the family's devout religious beliefs."

God's Gift......really?

So do you call him God?

My self-esteem is directly related to my MgoPoints.

Nathan (derivation the Hebrew Natan) means "gave" often it's associated with the idea of a Gift from the Devine - Nathaniel (Natan -  El) is literally translated as "G-d Gave"

Matan (another Hebrew name) Literally means "Gift"

Lots of names with Hebrew origins have parts relating to G-d, Ariel (Ari - El) means the Lion of G-d as one example.

On a separate story regarding names my friends wife is a nurse and she was checking on a couple that just had a baby....on the chart for the baby is had "L-A" listed for the first name of the child.

My friends wife asked the couple what the name was b/c she thought it was a mistake.

It was no mistake.....that's how it is spelled, and it pronounced La dash A.
