OT: It appears Zach Follett is hanging up the cleats
Zach Follett posted on his twitter page that his come back attempt is over. The pain was too much, and he doesn't want to risk a life threatening injury. It's too bad, but I wish the kid all the luck in the world. He was a tough competitor and always gave it 100%. At least he is smart enough to realize that there isn't an amount of money worth risking your life over.

Gotta be healthy. That's first and foremost. Smart guy like that, he's gonna land on his feet.

From what I've heard about this his neck was on fire and he couldn't complete any of the hitting drills.

Wasn't he the guy bagging on Stafford for being a china doll?

In his defense, Stafford has been injured several times (4 times I believe) in 2 years and Follett suffered a freak neck injury on special teams. And special teams in the NFL are reserved for the mentally insane.

It was pretty weak nonetheless.

If somebody could post that hit on Danny Amendola that would be nice.

oh, there most certainly is an amount of money worth risking life over, they just weren't going to pay him that amount

Smart move, life>football.

This really sucks. I hope the Lions keep him around like the Red Wings do with retired/forced to retire players. Jiri Fisher comes to mind.

Some family friends (up in the CA Bay Area) knew some of his relatives or something, and hes truly a really standout guy. I truly wish him nothing but the best.
Inge to Toledo, Osgood and Draper retire and now Follett is already done, missing out on a chance to be another GRIT folk hero. It hasn't been an easy summer for white athlete-loving folks downriver.
I would imagine that he was paying a pretty hefty premium to Lloyds of London to protect him from an instance just like this one.
Man I loved this guys antics just as much as I loved Valverdes. Sucks he's done, but its the best thing for him.
Good luck in your next endeavor, Zach. You'll be missed here in Lion-land.
You can't go on with an injury that leaves you so vulnerable to further damage. It is very nice that he can 'walk' away from this injury.
Good Luck Zak.

Gotta luv the passion he played with.
All the best to him.
