OT - Isner and Mahut draw each other again at Wimbledon
I don't know if this is truly a coincidence or not, but it should be interesting. GQ has a nice summary of their epic match last year:
There was a 1% chance of meeting each other in the draw. Should be fun to watch.
A coincidence indeed, but I have a feeling we are in for a letdown in this match.
Yeah, it's tennis.
Im not very into tennis and had no clue when the tournament even starts so I thought by draw you meant they tied eachother again and i was all like Noo fuckin way
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out this year. This is also great for the tennis world. This will draw a lot of fans and those who don't watch tennis, but want to see how it goes this time around.
I don't want to be too much of a hater because I do enjoy tennis and the Isner Mahut match was amazing but it lessens the impact of their match when they really aren't that good of players.
They have a combined total of 1 singles titles and Mahut has a career losing record in singles. Isner at least is youngish for tennis and has shown some improvement but still hasn't been close to winning a major.
It's a nice tribute to their match together that they are playing again but it's very likely to be your typical tennis match.
I take the point they are not the greatest players in the world (it's not exactly Nadal-Federer or Borg-McEnroe, but then again, those matches are very rare), but Isner's recently been in the Top 20 and if he would stop getting draw's like his 1RD match in the French against Nadal (whom he took to 5 sets), he might have a better chance to move up. Since American tennis is really in the dumper, I hope Isner wins, does well overall, and can finally get a lower seed (e.g., #28 or whatever) in the grand slams so he can do better than the 3RD or so he usually does.
Also, I'm of the opinion that this is not a coincidence, unless someone shows me otherwise (i.e., was there a public drawing, like the Daily 4 Lottery, to ensure there were no shenanigans?). To have one of the most famous matches in recent history paired up again the very next year seems too planned to be an accident.
I don't blame you, cause I assume you work during the day. But anyway, it's a public draw with press there.
