OT: Islanders claim Nabokov off waivers

Submitted by AKMuskie on

The Wings lost Nabokov today as he was claimed off waivers by, of all teams, the NY Islanders. Would've been nice to see Howie have a proven backup (regular season anyways), but oh well. Jordan Pierce, from the GR Griffins, will the backup as long as Osgood is out with a sports hernia.

Seriously.  I'm not sure what is going on in that organization.  Draft Luongo, trade Luongo (we'll just draft another hot goaltender), draft DiPietro #1 overall, wait a few years, oh wait he sucks, claim a senior citizen Nabokov off waivers.  You know he's not going there to sit on the bench.

I was excited about this move but it is what it is.  The only thing that i do not understand fully is why did the Islanders trade away Roloson on New Years day then, especially since Roloson has basicially the same career stats as Nabokov.  I am sure Holland will make another amazing move in the coming weeks.

. . . really make no sense to me.  Between nabakov and the 2 guys the blues lost in a similar fashion, there is zero incentive to try to improve your team and bring guys into the league knowing they are likely to get swiped by another club.

Seemed unlikely that he'd get through waivers, but to see the Islanders do it is strange.  Ah well, this team will just continue to chug along and win.

That maybe the case. This seems pretty confusing. I've read it both ways now after I read your comment. I'm sure we'll found out soon enough.

Edit: I think he can be traded but he has to be put back on waivers first.

Just reported during the Red Wings game.  Nabokov is saying he will refuse to report to the Islanders so they can either suspend him or place him back on waivers.

"Jim Tressel likes trannies"

Attacking someone's sexual orientation, even if they might be our arch-rival's head coach, is uncalled for and unwelcome on these boards.

It's your funeral.  Enjoy Bolivia.

Would you both be happy if I changed to "Jim Tressel likes women"?   ...or how about "Jim Tressel likes gophers"?  ....your use of the word "attacking" is both misguided and, in actuality, the only inflammatory portion of any of this discourse.  Walk around A-squared sometime and I will wager you'll never see students who I have observed wearing t-shirts with this exact moniker being slammed to the ground by the city's or campus' finest for perpetration of hate crimes.  In the words of the immortal Sgt. Hulka, "Lighten up, Francis."
