OT - Isiah Thomas to Pistons? Possible minority ownership interest
Apparently the Pistons are in discussions with Isiah Thomas to make him a minority owner. The percentage has not been determined. As long as he stays far away from running the team this may be good from a public relations perspective. I hope that is the main purpose.
he can get the Worm to go out on some Public Relations visits, too.
The Pistons would lock up the North Korea market with that move.
The problem is Kim Jong Un is more of a Darko fan since he enjoys human victory cigars.
from North Korea two weeks ago. Let me tell you, those cats are craaaaazzzzy dudes.
As a Pacers fan, I endorse this stupid idea.
I don't think I've actually ever met a Pacers fan.
I assume you grew up on a farm and really like the fundamentals of defense.
You are probably tall and skinny. And really nice. A nice guy with a firm handshake.
We exist.
But I did feel really short in high school because I'm only 5'11" and change.
I have not been accused of being really nice recently. (A long-time colleague did recently ask me, "wait a minute...are you nice?" after I made friends with a bar employee.)
Anytime your career trajectory goes from NBA > NBA > High School in Florida for the convalsecents and ne'er-do-wells, that should be a red flag stating "do not hire."
I grew up in the Bad Boy era and you are right that he was the person that on many levels made that team function both on and off the court, and he did do some great work in and around Detroit. Indeed, he was once in the television spots for the company that now employs me. That being said, I think his track record in other positions within the NBA says that while he was a great player, giving him a major role in basketball operations probably is not advisable - hopefully, if this did go through, he'd be mostly out of that.
was an amazing player. One of the very few point guards that could always get his own shot if he wanted. I'm a huge fan.
But his track record off the court is just as unimpressive and a reason for concern. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the front office of any team or business that I cared about and I do care about the Pistons.
Anyone who uses a hashtag while responding in an MGoBlog forum should not be taken seriously.
#NoHashtag
I think he deserves a seat at the table, he did help build the franchise, and has done a lot for the community. Just not sure on how much of the daily business he should be involved in, hasn't had a good track record in that department.
"Minority Owner"?!?!?! Didn't you learn anything from the D. Sterling fiasco?
As long as he is not the coach or the GM I'll be happy.
Yay -- Isiah's back with the Pistons, where my childhoood hero belongs! Really haven't been a fan of Gores at all, but I like the way he handled the Dumars thing (respectfully, and keeping him on board in a more behind the scenes role), the Van Gundy hire, and bringing Zeke back in this role.
Van Gundy has already been named president. I don't think you have to worry about Isiah running the operations.
Loved Isiah as a player. Not so much as an executive.
FWIW, the day after the CBW web address registration expired it reopened as a porn site.
Isiah has been a disaster since he retired. Loved him as a player, but please stay away from the Pistons.
