does what it's supposed to do. One that enforces the rules. One that isn't focused on only making money. There's been talk of creating a competing organization to govern college athletics. You'd just need 10 or so big name teams to leave the NCAA, and some smaller ones too. Once you get the ball rolling, teams will be lining up to leave the NCAA. I really don't think anyone but the rule-breakers and cheaters are happy with the NCAA right now. Of course, I doubt this will happen but it's still nice to dream.

I think a lot of people underestimate the difficulty of the NCAA's job.  It does not have subpoena power, so it can't force wrongdoers to come clean.  It has to hunt for bits and pieces of evidence.  And it's not the NCAA's fault that the NFL and NBA choose to use it as a de facto farm system.

they should at least make the attempt to try and talk to potential witnesses. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ncaaosu-update-almost-laughable-if-it-werent-so-sad: That thread pretty much summarizes what's wrong with the NCAA. If they made attempts to try and talk to everyone involved but received no cooperation, I'd be happy that they at least tried. But the NCAA doesn't try. They couldn't give a damn about teams and schools cheating, as long as they get their money at the end of the day. Hell, the head of NCAA's COI was the AD at Miami while all NCAA violations were happening anywhere and everywhere you looked. How can you hire someone who either overlooked or didn't know about those major violations, while that's his damn job? If  the NCAA even attempted to connect the dots, schools like OSU would be found guilty of violations far beyond what they're being charged with now. The NCAA's punishments oftentimes don't even make sense.  And yes the NFL and NBA use the NCAA, but if that's going to continue to happen, the NCAA needs to talk to the NFL and NBA and implement some kind of partnership or agreement where those guilty of misdeeds in college, would still get punished in the NFL or NBA. Alabama and Auburn both won National Championships with inelgible players. Oregon got to the BCS championship after buying recruits. OSU, like it or not, enjoyed an extremely successful run under Tressel, another reign rife with major violations. USC, perhaps the most dominant team of the decade, more major violations. UConn, a team on probation, wins the national championship. Look at everyone's favorite cinderella team, Boise State. They were hit with LOIC. Those are just the teams off the top of my head. One thing is clear, things need to change, and things need to change drastically.
