I'VE HAD JUST ABOUT ENOUGH OF YOU SONNY
Obviously in response to its shaming on MGoBlog...
If only we could do the same with the logos and the division names...
That's what I really want to go.
What would you replace it with?
does what it's supposed to do. One that enforces the rules. One that isn't focused on only making money. There's been talk of creating a competing organization to govern college athletics. You'd just need 10 or so big name teams to leave the NCAA, and some smaller ones too. Once you get the ball rolling, teams will be lining up to leave the NCAA. I really don't think anyone but the rule-breakers and cheaters are happy with the NCAA right now. Of course, I doubt this will happen but it's still nice to dream.
I think a lot of people underestimate the difficulty of the NCAA's job. It does not have subpoena power, so it can't force wrongdoers to come clean. It has to hunt for bits and pieces of evidence. And it's not the NCAA's fault that the NFL and NBA choose to use it as a de facto farm system.
they should at least make the attempt to try and talk to potential witnesses. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ncaaosu-update-almost-laughable-if-it-werent-so-sad: That thread pretty much summarizes what's wrong with the NCAA. If they made attempts to try and talk to everyone involved but received no cooperation, I'd be happy that they at least tried. But the NCAA doesn't try. They couldn't give a damn about teams and schools cheating, as long as they get their money at the end of the day. Hell, the head of NCAA's COI was the AD at Miami while all NCAA violations were happening anywhere and everywhere you looked. How can you hire someone who either overlooked or didn't know about those major violations, while that's his damn job? If the NCAA even attempted to connect the dots, schools like OSU would be found guilty of violations far beyond what they're being charged with now. The NCAA's punishments oftentimes don't even make sense. And yes the NFL and NBA use the NCAA, but if that's going to continue to happen, the NCAA needs to talk to the NFL and NBA and implement some kind of partnership or agreement where those guilty of misdeeds in college, would still get punished in the NFL or NBA. Alabama and Auburn both won National Championships with inelgible players. Oregon got to the BCS championship after buying recruits. OSU, like it or not, enjoyed an extremely successful run under Tressel, another reign rife with major violations. USC, perhaps the most dominant team of the decade, more major violations. UConn, a team on probation, wins the national championship. Look at everyone's favorite cinderella team, Boise State. They were hit with LOIC. Those are just the teams off the top of my head. One thing is clear, things need to change, and things need to change drastically.
than I planned/expected.
I don't recognize Leaders and Legends. Sorry Mr. Delaney, but I'm going full Johnny Reb on this one. East and West speaks more to our collective paranoia about the Soviet Union, and now China.
i guess others had the same thought.
As an ISU fan, thank god. That think created backlash the moment it was released. Both sides hated it almost unanimously. I will credit Iowa Corn here for admitting the mess up and moving on in the fashion they should have originally.
Here's to the State of Iowa and her far simpler tax code.
Good it was creepy.
It looked like Iowa's version of "Want some candy little kid?".
I am sure the winner of Iowa-Iowa State would have been even more satisfied with a real farmer and family presenting a real bushel of corn. You can at least eat the corn.
I actually thought the trophy embodied the spirit of Iowa..../s
not a football game.
It looked like something you win for growing the best looking ear of corn at the Iowa State Fair, not something the winner of the game between the two biggest in-state schools should be taking home with them.
Yikes!! Throw that thing back into the fires of Mount Doom whence it came from!!
...than a football/corn themed trophy? Stand a football up on it's end and peel back the leather at the top to reveal corn kernals. Dun.
My thoughts exactly! Few other state logos prominantly blend into the general shape of a football better than this. Why make things more difficult?
the impending unveiling of the "Heroes" trophy sponsored by a regional supermarket chain for the NU-Iowa game.
one "new" rivalry trophy that wouldn't be fake-meaningful and contrived would be the winner of the NU-UM game taking possession of the loser’s 1997 NC award, as has been suggested many times on both schools fan sites.
Our fanbases could eternally relish the angst, sweet revenge, and vindication of their righteous cause on a yearly basis....the fires never extinguished.
That's the kind of stuff these things are supposed to represent and make CF what it is...a little friendly spit in the other guy's eye. Not this Things Remembered mall shit.
Hail Victors & Go Big Red!
...some serious stakes, Husker. If I could, I'd authorize it.
think how many votes were generated by our fanbases on ESPNs stupid pregame traditions poll.
Why not? If you guys could organize on your end, I think I could get a few balls rolling on the Red side.
Wow, that would really make that game intense. I don't see it happening but that might be kind-of cool.
It wouldn't have needed patent protection: Nobody in their right (sober) mind would have ever thought of stealing the design for ANY purpose, and certainly not as a basis for a football trophy.
That whole thing was like a real-life Parks and Recreation sideplot
I literally thought it was a joke when I saw the trophy on TV or somewhere the past couple of days. Now I know it was not -- how lame! Oh well, on to some newer corn-related design.
so they have stupid idea that was mocked by majority and they get rid of it almost immediately. yet legends and leaders remain...gosh i hate those stupid names
Here's a better idea since Iowa is 37-16 in the series:
That was a serious thing? I thought it was a joke. I even wrote about it in my diary...
