OT: Iowa/OSU

Submitted by SD Go Blue on
Looking at Iowa's remaining schedule: Indiana Northwestern at Ohio St Minnesota Will we have to be rooting for OSU to beat Iowa at the Shoe? If Iowa goes undefeated they may be at the top of the BCS and in the national championship game. I don't think the Big 10 can take another national championship game embarrassment. So, my question is: If Iowa is undefeated going into the Shoe, will you be rooting for OSU? I just don't know if I can do that.

I never root for OSU. It would need to be some sort of bizarro situation where it was the only way we could win the B10, but even still, with them as the last game every year, there would still be some way for them to eff it up against us.

I wouldn't be rooting for OSU, but rather against Iowa. I'm not sure if everyone understands just how bad it would be to have them on a major national stage come bowl season. Also, write it down, I think Northwestern stands a legit shot at an upset against the Hawkeyes.

I won't root for OSU. Iowa's defense I think would actually do a pretty good job against the other contenders, but they may be pulling guys off the street to play running back by that point.

Is there an assumption that Iowa would get embarrassed in the National Title game? Granted they have squeaked out some games against mediocre teams but haven't Florida and Alabama done the exact same thing? It's not like either of those teams has an overpowering offense that would blow Iowa out of the water. They are both defensive teams, if Iowa matched up with one of them I would predict a 20-10 type game. Also, I hope Iowa beats OSU by 50 and Pryor breaks his leg. And as he breaks his leg he gets so mad he punches Tressel and breaks his nose.

If, BIG IF, they can sneak past Indiana, I'll root for them to run the table. Although a) I don't think they beat tOSU, and b) I don't think they get into the top 2 even if they do.

The Big Ten champion is more likely to go to Rose Bowl than BCS Championship game this year. I haven't pulled for OSU in years, see no reason to change.

I don't think I can create a situation where I would cheer for tOSU. This particular scenario won't impact Michigan so I really can't see the reason to cheer for "dem boys down South". If Iowa can run the table, let them play in the BCS and let the chips fall where they may.

I don't see any reason to fear Florida or Alabama and their conservative boring ass football. Neither team has a QB who can pass worth a darn if their team gets in comeback situation, so Saban and Meyer take the cautious approach. Alabama, Florida, Iowa, cain't hardly tell them apart

never... EVER root for osu.... and if iowa goes unbeaten and alabama looses 1 game and beats florida in SEC game or if texas looses 1 or 2 then iowa will pry go to BCS NC.... HOPEFULLY vs Texas.... cuz the iowa defence will hold texas offence.... or even vs florida... i think florida has an overrated defence last couple games they couldnt tackle they missed a lot of tackles.... well and the B10 conference will get a lot of money from a NC game.... and iowa should keep it close and hopefully win but they need there qb to show up...(wats his name?? i forgot)

Big 10 a better chance to look good in the BCS. OSU vs USC or Oregon is more likely to at least be a good game. Iowa vs USC or Oregon has danger: blowout potential written all over it. Even an unbeaten Iowa I don't think will get a fair shake in the BCS. Thats not attitude that the voters attitude's. Iowa's becoming a feel good story. Just win and look ugly doing it every week.....in a beautiful midwestern sort of way. So yeah, Go Iowa vs OSU. bonus if Iowa wins and goes to Rose......OSU will still have just one trip to Pasadena since 1984.

Uh, yeah, Go Hawks! I think they run the table in the regular season And, if the line is Iowa +9, like it is right now, I will be pushing a whole lot of CHIPS!!!!! into the middle of the table.

Jamiemac I am surprised, I consider you the expert degenerative gambler here, and look to your predictions when choosing to wager a dime or two. How can you not see Iowa getting blown out at OSU. I imagine Iowa is going to be at least a 7 point dog in this game, and I don't think they'll cover. Help me change my mind and save me some money please.

There is no reason to root for OSU whatsoever. I personally do not endorse the concept of conference pride in football, as there are minimal consequences (as opposed to college basketball, where bids are often given or denied based on conference strength).

I agree that Iowa going to the NC game would embarrass the B11 because they are not that good. Now that we have that out I don't think it will be an issue since they are going to lose to Indiana tomorow. Book it.

"I don't think the Big 10 can take another national championship game embarrassment. " In what sense? Michigan is trying to get to the point where it can win conference championships on some kind of regular basis. If you're worried that Michigan might get knocked out of the BCS championship based on some low percentage circumstance where there are un/1-defeated teams along with Michigan and the Big 10's perception is responsible for M not going (a la '06), the program's not there yet. And it requires some very particular circumstances. Also, I have to tell you. The Big 10 is probably not as good as the SEC, BIG XII or PAC10. It is at a major recruiting disadvantage and has been since the decline of the rust belt. Florida, Texas, and California are the major recruiting hotbeds and they are well outside the Big10's sphere of influence. The South in general produces more players than those states in the Big 10's footprint. In other words, I suspect the Big 10 is denigrated for good reason, even if those making fun have no idea why they're accurate.

coined a phrase in the '80's for kids to use to avoid drugs. "Just say no." (to rooting for the Buckeyes) The BCS is not ready to put another Big 10 team in the national championship game.

If The Game is shaping up to be huge, we'd want to root for them to keep the hype high. In any other circumstance, when The Game isn't going to be paramount, I'll root against OSU at every chance possible.

Not a chance This is not a very good reason to even consider it, man. For a bowl game, it's defensible but this... man, you are WHACK!

I want Iowa to win the Big 10 outright, the last thing i want is for the Buckeyes to clinch another share of the tittle having won the last 4...
