OT - Interesting video regarding Myron Rolle

Didn't see this on the boards. Definitely a little fluff -- as you'd expect with such a story -- but also some really interesting new stuff, such as: 1) NPV of Myron's decision to postpone entering the draft 2) Marketing of a rhodes scholar/athlete -- is there any premium you can get for that? 3) Perception of intelligence and classroom success among minority populations in the US. 4) Interview with Jim Brown. Good for a watch. Great story, in general, but also a lot of interesting subtexts. http://online.wsj.com/video/the-marketing-of-scholar-athlete-myron-roll… EDIT: Definitely check out the full interview with Jim Brown. He's a great story, period. Made the right choice I think, because he can only play football until his mid to late thirties, and I don't think you can put the scholarship on hold for that long. However, his story is in complete contrast to most FSU players. Did anyone else see the ESPN OTL story on how many players they have reading/writing at a fourth grade level? It's astounding. I only mention this because FSU will easily use the "We had a Rhodes Scholar on our team, and that means our academics are top notch!" when in fact they are quite dreadful....

IIRC, Rolle chose FSU because he could do what he wanted to academically. The practice schedule and academics schedule at some schools didn't allow him to make it work. Can one of you refresh me with the details? I really hope that if someone like him wants to come to Michigan in the future, we bend over backwards to accomodate them.

You know that we were in Rolle's final five and he visited UofM, right? I guess you could be talking about how Michigan was back then and how it is now - but the only real difference in Lloyd vs. RR. And I doubt RR would have the pull with Mary Sue to basically say "We're going to let this kid do whatever he wants academically because he's a genius".
