OT-Incognito Jason Whitlock Vs Sean Salisbury

Submitted by HAIL 2 VICTORS on

Although there are many times I disagree with Jason Whitlock on numerous topics his perspective on Martin is both fascinating and terribly disturbing if not also very sad.

This morning I heard a very respected former NFL player on Kansas City Sports Radio 810 during drive time, and he has a very concerning perspective where he thought Martin needed to do more to confront Incognito. His take on this subject begins at the 7 minute mark of this podcast.

Here is a link if someone can get the link to the direct Pod cast-greatly appreciated

This seems to be the link to the podcast however it is a down load.

Although the high road might be the right road it is often not the road most easily traveled.  I hope there are radical changes in the NFL locker room from all of this.

He's also been "We are the Borg" and "Darth Wolverine."

There's such an easy way to spot him when he comes back with a new username:

  • At some point he will mention that he's 31 and he doesn't care about other's opinions.

  • He will only refer to Michigan as "M"

  • He will downvote most threads, and then elaborate by saying, "why is this a thread"

  • Ironically some of the threads he actually talks in are the OT threads about movies and video games, which is pure hypocrisy considering the above bullet point.

  • He'll correct grammar, and of course be snarky about it.

Basically the guy is a massive douche who can't seem to quit when all his dopplegangers get Bolivia'd. This has been your guide to spotting the Darth trolls.

If there were not two radically different takes sighted in the post I would not have take the time but Salisbury is a must listen on this...in compare and contrast to Whitlock this is thread worthy.

I just can't get past this part: "The cesspool of insanity that apparently is the Miami locker room would test the mental stability of any sane man. Martin..." Much like the Michigan trash he wrote, formulates these bombastic opinions without stepping one foot inside the environment he's criticizing.

The way this story is unfolding...and the way the Dolphin teammates are describing their relationship.... It is clear to me that Incognito has a ton of issues and needs someone in his life that he can dominate, push around...bully.

Martin, clean cut educated young player looking for guidance on the team...became that guy.

I have experience with thugs like Incognito.  My older brother is the same guy, minus the tats.  The guy beat the shit out of me and taunted me from age 8-16.  He would start the day acting like my buddy, and then by the end of it, Id have a bloody face, chipped teeth or even a broken rib.  My brother taunted me and constantly told me how shitty I was, and that everything wrong was my fault.  It was my fault that he was beating the shit out of me.

Now, years later...I understand that all of that was my brother's personal problem.  He is basically, an asshole bully who has this need to always have someone in his life that he can dominate.  In his 20s, he beat the shit out of his GF and then called me to bail him out of jail.  Again, her fault...not his.

Personally, speaking from experience....guys like Icognito or my brother are better off dead or in prison.  My brother has been there several times.

1.  Sorry to hear about that upbringing, and it's a shame an adult did not intervene.  Sucks to grow up in that environment, and it's good to read you've made some peace with it.

2.  Did you bail your brother out?  (Obviously nobody here is entitled to an answer, but it would be interesting to know how you'd handle that.)

3.  While Richie Incognito may be an asshole bully, gf-beater is a whole other level of asshole.  I'd say your brother actually seems worse than Incognito, which ... wow.

1) Mom and dad had a bad marriage.  My dad worked days, my mom midnights at a hospital. No one was around to watch the house.  My mom refuses to admit it even happened.

2) Yes, I bailed him out.  He promised to pay back the bail, but never did.

3) Yes.  To give you another perspective, when my father died, he left us a small amount of money each.  My brother calls me up and says "Hey...what are you going to do with your money!" like he won the lotto or something.  He was 33 at the time.

For me, its taken me years to learn to calm my reaction when someone is rude or starts in on me.  Now I recognize it for what it is... his problem, not anything I did.  However it took me over 20 years to finally get the mental pain of abuse out of my system. Its still there. I can still "feel" and hear the sound of him clubbing me in the head, then laughing and saying "hey i used my forearm, and never punched you ha ha".

I don't think anyone on here is advocating that his brother dies. And no one has openly agreed with his statement on the matter. So to say this blog backs that ideology is pretty wrong IMO.

The guy is in Bolivia for a reason. Thus, one can assume he probably has some different views on things.

This whole discussion is off-topic. So it no longer covers Michigan sports. His views/story has something to do with the topic. Also, that kind of stuff can be hard to talk about. So I am appreciative of his comment.

So yeah, grow up with that talk. No one needs to hear it.

I love the pillar of honesty and integrity that is Bryant McKinney throwing his two cents out there (to the press) to criticize how Martin handled it (in the press.) Mr. Cover-up obviously prefers to have disgusting, abusive, illegal behavior quietly covered up and denied.

Some good observations here, but I think overblown, and most will reject the premise that NFL locker rooms adopt prison culture, and this comparison goes too far.  I imagine Incognito's teammates are supporting him because they feel having him back gives them the best chance to win.  Those other cultural points are more subtextual.  To me reading this is refreshing in comparison to the ESPN Incognito apologist party line that is spewed on Sports Center, which is just sickening to me.

Incognito/Martin case, it does bring to the forefront a problem that's been festering in the lockerrooms of the NFL for years - bullying and abuse of younger players that goes WAY beyond good-natured joking or building comraderie.  For instance, I've never understood how veterans making rookies pay for absurdly expensive dinners or tying guys up while they're being struck repeatedly does anything for building team unity.  The NFL and each team needs to finally put a stop to this kind of behavior, and take a proactive approach to the elimination of bullying and hazing.

I think that is spot on re bullying destroying unity.  It breeds resentment, reflects a lack of leadership, and, having been in many lockerrooms, winning teams do not do this.  Separate and apart from that, an NFL lockerrom is a workplace, and Dolphins management has duties to its employees.

I never, ever thought I would be doing this, but this quote from (gasp) Terrelle Pryor sums it up.  Leaders on teams should stop harrassment, not aid or abet it.  http://www.raiders.com/news/article-1/Pryor-Looking-Forward-to-Giants-G…

From watching him play a bit here in SF, and as reflected in his words here, Pryor has matured.

That Sean Salisbury was a dopey blowhard who talked too much and did not know when to stop talking.  I began to change my mind about halfway through this interview, but then the blowhard could not stop talking and in the end did not make much sense.

Then somehow the discussion turned into shitting into a brother's mouth and being catholic, but I don't understand if the poster meant the adjective or the noun, that is being all-embracing or a member of the Catholic Church.

But why bitch about what someone else posted?  Unless it is really stupid?

I have worked for 3 professional NFL teams, and have first hand interactions in the locker room.  I can definitely tell you that there are a few veterans/leaders in every locker room that set the tone for the ENTIRE locker room.  What they allow and what they deem inappropriate, usually everyone follows suit.  So for people to think that the Dolphins is a snapshot into an NFL locker room, that would be unintelligent.  For instance, having worked for the Falcons, this sort of thing never went on there.  The most relaxed, professional group I've seen.  Sure there were light-hearted jokes, but nothing like what we're reading.  It all started with Mr. Blank, what his expectation was in a player and his team, and that was trickled down through our President, GM, and coach.  Any bad apples were weeded out.  Why do you think our best pass rusher, a veteran player, was not re-signed when its obviously a huge need?  Because he was slowly becoming a cancer, and Mr. Blank did not want that affecting the younger guys on the team.

So this whole culture tells me that it starts at the top, and judging by what i've heard about Jeff Ireland, that where the buck stops.

p.s. that player's initals are JA, if you must know.
