OT-Inception (No Spoilers)

Submitted by GoBlue65 on

Go see this movie now.

I just got back from seeing it, and it is one of the most amazing movies i have seen in the past few years. Most original movie concept i've seen probably ever. This is what movies should be, not crap like twilight and transformers.

Go see it

Edit: As requested further down the thread, I ask that no direct spoilers be talked about, as not to ruin the experience for those who haven't seen it yet

I want to see this movie so bad. Hearing that is all the confidence and backing I need now. The minute I get some free time I'm hitting the movie theatre up. From the previews it looked real good.

I saw it last night, too.  It blew my effing mind.  If it weren't so far away from the Academy Awards, I'd say it would easily be movie of the year.  Unfortunately...voters will probably have forgotten about it by then.

I don't think toy story was that good Spanish mode was funny, but for younger kids they can't read what buzz was saying, despicable me was better

But the wife won tickets to those movies plus inception in ımax 3d, can't wait

Damnit I want to see both of those. I was gonna wait to see toy story at home by renting it because its not an epic or action movie so you dont necessarily need the movie theatre experience. Or am I wrong?

Thanks for the recommendation though, I will definitly go see Inception hopefully this weekend.

What's crazy to me is how DiCaprio could transition from one of my least favorite actors of all time to one of the top badasses in Hollywood.  He's got the "DiCaprio is in it, so it must be good" thing going for him...

I've always had a lot of respect for Leonardo DiCaprio.  He's had a couple iffy movies, but he's also been in some awesome ones:

  • What's Eating Gilbert Grape
  • The Departed
  • Gangs of New York
  • Inception
  • Shutter Island
  • Blood Diamond
  • Titanic

Things like The Beach and The Man in the Iron Mask weren't very good, and Titanic and Romeo + Juliet were sappy/cheesy, but hey, what can you expect from baby-faced 20-something actors?  And those last two movies made a ton of money (Titanic was #1 all time until Avatar), so he must have been doing something right...

Ever since blood diamond and the departed, he has been probably the top actor for me since Tom Hanks basically doesnt do much anymore. I think Will Smith gets a lot of hype but his movies aren't near as good as Dicaprio's, in my opinion.

He’s also helped by his ability to pick great roles and work with great directors.   The list of directors is a who's who of directing right now

  • Chris Nolan
  • Scorsese
  • Sam Mendes
  • Ridley Scott
  • Edward Zwick
  • Spielberg
  • Danny Boyle
  • Woody Allen
  • James Cameron

Leo has been extremely smart in the roles he picks lately and the directors he works with.  His next film, Hoover, is directed by Clint Eastwood and is going to be Oscar bound.  The man is on an amazing role right now and is going about it the best way possible.  Plus he wears Michigan hats...

It was really really good.   I even had a dream about it last night - woke up this morning and couldn't tell if I was still in my dream or in the real world...had to pinch myself.  ha ha...j/k, of course.

Great movie!

He really didn't give away the ending that much.  The ending has more to do with the mysterious goat you see half way through the movie...

But really, he didn't give anything away to ruin it

I saw it last night and liked it a lot.  It wasn't perfect, and had some possible plot holes (kind of hard to tell sometimes if they were actual plotholes on a first viewing), but at times it seemed that maybe Nolan also didn't fully understand it (because, well, he made it up and it's not exactly real science... or is it...), but I think it is very interesting, and most importantly, very entertaining.  Anyone who says they understood everything is also either lying to themselves of clearly didn't understand that there was much more to the movie then the shallow aspects.

A little uneven, and perhaps the plot, which is multi-layered, but very linear, may make it tough for it to pull off the best picture victory.  The ending was the best, and really only ending, that would suffice.  Some may see it coming, it doesn't matter, I saw it coming and still thought it was perfect (I'm really not trying to toot my own horn, just pointing out to others that tend to be good at guessing the end of the movie, it doesn't matter in this case).  Still, I think by the end of July, we will have seen 4 out of the 10 top picture nominations (Shutter Island, Toy Story 3, Inception, Get Low).

FWIW, 'Get Low' is a very limited movie coming out later this July with Robert Duval and Bill Murray that I think is going to surprise people.  Other best picture nominations to look for include: The American (9/1; Starring: George Clooney), Jack Goes Boating (9/17; Dir Debut: Philip Seymour Hoffman; Starring: PSH, Amy Ryan), Hereafter (10/22; Dir: Clint Eastwood, Starring: Matt Damon), Morning Glory (11/12; Starring: Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton), The Fighter (12/10; Starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale), True Grit (12/25; Dir: Coen Brothers; Starring: Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin) Blue Valentine (12/31; Starring Ryan Gosling)

Sorry I just went all crazy movie talk on everyone, it's kind of my second thing besides Michigan sports.

Also, as you can see by my list of top movies and potential top movies, Matt Damon and Leo are the top two actors in Hollywood at the moment IME, though my personal favorite is PSH (which, if he didn't do so much stage work would easily make that list)

And it's gotten really good reviews so far.  That being said, it looks more like a film festival type film, not that there is anything wrong with those films, but sometimes they aren't "academy" material.  I will say, I think Jack Goes Boating and Get Low are my hopeful movies probably more so than legit contenders.

PS. I was also going to edit my original post, just to ask if the OP could put (No Spoilers) in the title and maybe ask that people don't spoil it.  I'm guessing some people on the board are just looking to see if others would recommend it but are worried they will see spoilers.  Just a suggestion

For those of you who have seen it, I highly recommend watching it a second time after a few days. The opening 15-30 minutes will come together soooooo nicely once you've watched the whole thing.

This flick had better bring home a few Oscars.

I loved basically the whole movie.  It was just fascinating.  My only complaint was that towards the end they dragged it out a little more than they needed to; however it is very complex so maybe they indeed need this.  I love the way the movie ends with the totem.  It keeps you guessing.

So, I just saw Inception.  It was amazing.  I don't want to give anything away, but because of the comment above (which is now removed) I was able to anticipate a big question in the movie (those who saw it likely know what I'm talking about).

Did it dimish the experience?  I don't know.  I feel very confident in my interpretation of the film, however I may have been more "wowed" had I not read that comment.

Long story short: STFU about movies when there's any possibility of giving any unwanted insight about anything!

about Inception - WITH SPOILERS for those of us who have seen the movie and would like to discuss specific details of the movie?

I have seen discussions about Inception elsewhere on the interwebs, but naturally, the level of discourse and points made are far worse than what the MGoCommunity is capable of.

At the same time, I don't want to inadvertently spoil the movie for anyone who simply can't control their clicking.

And I don't want to spend the time creating a thread if it will be immediately be deleted for redundancy.
