OT-Improper License

Submitted by Ziff72 on

The BooBoo thread made me think of one of those imponderables that I never seem to get my arms around. Why do so many pro athletes not have a valid license or registration?? You see this all the time when they are pulled over. These guys make a ton of jack, but they can't get their license renewed?? Is it an entitlement thing? Very bizarre.

The best comedy is when it is close to the truth. I wonder if they just say fuck it if I get pulled over my lawyer wil deal with it.

Not to get too deep, but is it a societal thing?? Many of these kids come from poor homes. Do some poorer people not bother registering cars or paying for a license and take their chances??

Some lower income families that I work with struggle with pulling together the necessary funds for the lump sums required for registration, insurance, and licensing.

Savings is not a cultural value when you struggle with paying the bills and keeping food on the table. That same mindset can continue from childhood into adulthood even if the income level increases drastically.

On the other hand, the instant gratification/not looking to the future seems to be more than prevalent in many middle and upper class families as well... so maybe it's not because they grew up in poor homes.

The savings rates in both America and England were both negative for years before the global economic collapse. If by culture you mean "Every person living in this country," I agree with you. If by culture you're talking about classes or races, I would submit that not saving, and living beyond one's means, has not been limited to any particular subgroup of society.

I think that for some athletes, with the money and fame comes a sense of entitlement. I think it's the same reason some get pulled over driving $200,000 cars 100+ mph, show up to clubs with unregistered guns because they "fear for their safety" instead of hiring a security detail and drive without a license.

...this guy probably isn't worth discussing any longer.

Is he even in school?

This is not meant to be harsh but he is throwing away a full scholarship to one of the to universities in the world. At what point do you say enough?
