Will be going for the triple crown at the Belmont.
"You can't make me," Hoke said. "You're not my father."
The Preakness Thread on the front page? There's enough horse racing love for TWO threads discussing it??
That's fair, but I'd go easy on him. If anyone else had won, it definitely should have been buried in that other thread, but a Triple Crown run can be fun even for non-horse racing fans.
Only has 19 comments. Nothing is going to get "buried" there.
Any word on the status of the names "Leaders" and "Legends"? Or has Delaney swept that under the rug as well?
Didn't you start the duplicate Tigers thread yesterday too?
I want to that once . Didn't realize what strippers do when they are not stripping but apparently they flash crowds for dollas at horse races.
I went once. Utter shit show. Very few times has anything else matched the ridiculousness and drunkenness. It was great.
Ran a perfect race. Stayed a little outside and around 3 to 4 lengths off the pace. He never got into trouble and the only glitch in his race was the quirky move down the stretch. The jockey got him squared away and he ran like a champion. It will be a great couple weeks for the hype to build up the possibility for a Triple Crown winner.
It's like 15 threads down and created almost 12 hours ago, and that was predictions for the race anyways.
If I wasnt so drunk at the Derby I may have actually made money on these races ala picked i'll have another at tone time because well...I had too many others and switched to Gemology...damn you alcohol!
I love this horse
No chance the next race.
this horse is gonna win the triple crown
I know basically nothing about horse racing, other than that horses regularly seem to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown and always seem to falter in Belmont. What's different about that course?
The horses are starting to tire after the Derby and the Preakness and the Belmont is the longest race.
the Belmont is the longest. Sprinters that win the first two races typically fair poorly there.
The Belmont is the longest of the three races at 1 and 1/2 miles. The Derby is 1 and a qurter and the Preakness is 1 and 3/16.
There are several factors that make the Belmont tough to win:
1st- Distance: This will be the first and last time any (ok most) of these horses run this far again. Even if they do well they will be pointed to the more lucrative "classic" distance races, which are a mile and a quarter.
2nd- No Rest: Major stakes horses usually have their races 4-5 weeks apart, while the triple crown is 3 races in 5 weeks. Furthermore, there are always a few Derby notables who will skip the Preakness to rest up for the Belmont plus the addition of a couple outsiders who are also well rested. For example win or lose I'll Have Another is getting a long break. His next race will probably be the Travers stakes, which is late August. This would be followed by one more race to prep him for the Breeders Cup Classic in November.
3rd- No fear: In the past owners and trainers would avoid good/great horses. For example Secretariat's Belmont featured 5 horses total. Now every owner wants to take a shot at winning a triple crown race. Besides having to beat more horses the increased field size also decreases the chance of getting a clean break from the post.
Just as a note only 22 horses have won the Derby and Preakness so it is not that common of a feat.
IT'S THE TEST OF CHAMPIONS
