OT: if you're the Lions do you let Jim Schwartz go now or wait until next week
week. Start the search as soon as possible.
I guess that's my thought, you get a one week jump on other teams looking for a new coach. Maybe if the big prize this year is Bill O'Brien you can start negotiations or see if he's interested and move in if not earlier than other teams.
The season is over and what he does in the final week isn't going to change anyone's mind. So if you're going to fire him, just do it now. Would be doing the guy a favor in a way since he'd be getting a reported $12M pink slip and he'd get to spend the holiday's with his family.
Go cheer for another team.
You can keep cheering for the same same coach run team if you want to stay consistently average...he's taken us as far as he ever will.
Nah. I'll cheer for another coach.
Is that what you do when your team doesn't win? Hey you're a Red Sox/Heat/Ravens/Blackhawks fan huh?
I'm just teasing the Salvator guy as that's been his response to anyone critical of U-M's staff.
How can you say that whilst rocking the Olde English D??
He's a turnover machine. Shaun Hill would have won that game.
I'd like to see Stafford with a head coach who knows how to develop QBs.
Paging Bill O'Brien ... paging Bill O'Brien ...
I still think Stafford is very talented, young, and that you can win with him. However his mechanics have fallen apart the past two years. So I say bring in an established QB coach to give him a chance to turn it around, If he has a good QB coach, and he still doesn't show signs of improvement, you then have to start looking for better options.
Only keep Joique Bell, Megatron and the defensive line. Just have a nice sit down dinner at mid-field next week with the Vikings. Start scouting QBs in the draft that aren't a very poor man's version of Brett Favre.
the Lions have ever done. Dude is only 25. Get him an offensively-minded coach who will work with him. If he fails then, okay. But the Lions cannot get rid of him. Not with his contract and not with him still being only 26 when next season begins.
I forget the analyst that made it, but on NBC's show they brought up that they thought Stafford had too much freedom in the offense, and that freedom leads to his reckless behavior with the ball. Would be interesting to see how he did under an OC/head coach that reigned him in a bit.
Stafford was so wreckless...when he hit Fauria in the hands with the ball.
in the hands out stretched. wish it was in the chest of a wide open receiver. so inaccurate.
like those 2 last week right in Megatron's chest? Stafford's had problems, but the entire team has made a lot of boneheaded mistakes that are just as bad.
I guess saying to fire everyone short of 6 players and to eat at the 50 yard line instead of play an actual football game was NOT ENOUGH SARCASM to setup the rest of my post.
Jesus I am done here. Nobody is fun.
Reggie was pretty good this year too. The coach is the main problem. Its the penalties and lack of "finishing" that cost this team this year. Turnovers obviously played a major role too, but thats a different story.
Besides the massive fumbling problem, yes he is quite good. I don't know what to do with guys like that. You want him for his talent, but he's had that problem his whole career it seems.
I'd kill to have Stafford. There's nobody on the Vikes I wouldn't trade to get Stafford.
Have you ever heard of Adrian Peterson?
Stafford is eons better than Alex Smith and look what a coaching change did for him at 49ers. Revived his whole career from draft bust to serviceable at the very least. Now i know Harbaugh is an exception but a simple coaching changed reinvented him is the point.
We should literally just waive Stafford, sign Tebow and bring Charles Rogers back. Get Wayne Fontz back on the sideline, maybe put Cecil Fielder at center and Kid Rock can be the offensive coordinator.
Do I need to tag sarcasm in this post? Is there any humor left around here? Or does everybody just yell at each other and disagree.
"Is there any humor left around here?"
Well, not in your post.
Nobody is yelling and the majority of people are in agreement on what should be done. We have a great team base, just need a coach to orchestrate some discipline and get back to some fundamental corrections. Lions won 7 games with the most TO's and most dropped passes. Fix that crap and we're converting more 3rd downs, sustaining drives, and making a playoff run.
Yeah, this is easily the most talented and underperforming roster in the NFL. Drive-killing penalties and dumb turnovers are the difference between where we're at and having already locked up our spot in the playoffs.
The young OL members have shown some great potential. I assumed going into the season that the right side of the line was going to be a liability, but Warford and Waddle played well. I would eliminate them from your proposed purge list.
R u stupid stafford and megaton r the only bright spots on the whole team
Yeah, that d-line is awful.
But Stafford no bright spot. He's lost without Calvin. Stafford has a history of underperforming to expectations going back to Georgia.
but I think you're on to something. We keep Schwartz for 2 more years minimum, and right now we get rid of Stafford, CJ, Bell...who am I forgetting? THIS is what you need to do to maintain the mediocrity the Ford family demands. Infinite irrelevance!
I don't know man. I can't say Schwartz is every problem with this team, but he's questionable at best. The talent of this team, however is off the charts, Stafford included. That's the most glaring thing for me. The kind of talent they have, against this tire fire of a division this year and you're out of the playoffs with a week to go in the regular season? Inexcusable. Especially for a coach without any kind of a track record.
Aaaaah Mr Bell would like to have a word with you. He's honestly the ONLY player on this team that hasn't had me royally pissed of at one point or another.
not the coach in this case. Plus that backup TE and 67 on the OL did'nt help.
Don't fire him right before Christmas.
That's the only thing saving him in my eyes.
So you're saying fire him on Thursday then right? Right?
I'm quite tempted...
If you knew you were a dead man walking, wouldn't you want to be fired BEFORE Christmas and not after? If they fire him tonight or Monday, he can spend the holiday's with his family plus he'd be getting a big ol' fat severance check. That's a win-win in my book.
I'd be much cruler to fire him after the season.
WHen he gets fired, he's still guaranteed $12million. That's not a bad Xmas presents
Thread and there's your answer.
Please please please someone with GIF skillz whip that up pronto
Would've been fired after losing to Tampa.
Well he gives us a better chance to lose next week, so I say wait. That will help our draft position.
As in before this day is done.
Fire him tonight. Can't be telling the fans to F off and not get fired immediately. Too bad really I always liked him but he just has no control or discipline.
Also start hill next week and sit stafford
Hill is a free agent after this season. If you play him and he goes off, it'll make it harder/more expensive to re-sign him.
Fans act like bitches sometimes.
Agree 10000000% - you have fans there spending hard earned money and the coach getting paid millions that can't win a game is screaming f-u to the fans...Sorry, Jimmy, but F-U and Merry Effing Christmas.
Fire him now. It's not like he'll be able to save his job, and I figure he'd rather get the news and move on instead of hearing about it for the week of Christmas.
Sucky timing, but at the same time if he had been a halfway-competent coach then he wouldn't be in this position.
Fire him tonight as he's getting into his car. It'll make for a long and depressed ride home, like this season.
The again so are the last 35 years I've been watching this team.
Fire him now. No point in keeping him on any longer since the team has already quit. I have never seen a team with so much talent be as undisciplined as the Lions. Fire the entire coaching staff to be honest. Scott Linehan is a terrible offensive coordinator. I still can't believe how much Stafford has regressed throughout the year. The defense can never make a key defensive stop and have some of the most ridiculous personal foul penalties throughout all of their games. With Green Bay losing the divison has pretty much been given to the Bears. Makes me want to puke.
He told fans fuck you! It's a good job as well and can start your search early
If the Lions fire him, do we trust that they can make the right choice?
Stolen from Rivals board, but damn look at this list.
- Jim Schwartz 22-42
- Rod Marinelli 10-38
Dick Jauron 1-4
Steve Mariucci 15-28
Marty Mornhinweg 5-27
Gary Moeller 4-3
Bobby Ross 27-30
Wayne Fontes 66-67
Darryl Rogers 18-40
Monte Clark 43-61
Tommy Hudspeth 11-13
Rick Forzano 15-17
Don McCafferty 6-7-1
- Joe Schmidt 43-34-7
Sadly the fanbase can't fire the owner.
Answers obvious hire joe schmit
So Hire Moeller? Sample size/age/not being around a field in years be damned.
Hire Gary moeller since only two of those guys had winning records.
That's horribly depressing...the only connection between all these is the owner
Wayne Fontes. Bobby Ross. The Lions golden years.
I. Hate. Sports.
At the end of regulation when the Lions just sit on the ball to go into overtime and the crowd starts booing, Schwartz seems to look back at them and start swearing/arguing with them. If that is the case, give him the Lane Kiffin treatement and get him out tonight.
Oh and the collapse is another reason to get him out right away, that coupled with the fact that we can get an early jump on the coaching search.
No reason to wait if you are going to fire him. I think if anything it is a statement to the fans that we need. this is the second season in a row this group of top caliber talent has lost a excessive number of games we should have.
Make it known to the potential Head Coach canidates out there that we are looking.
to make the playoffs. Obvious upgrades are needed at CB and WR. At least two WR and one CB.
I agree but it's hard to believe we need wide receivers with all the draft picks used for them.
china dolls. I will say that Broyles may be give one more shot to shine. So they may only draft only one. It depends on who the HC is.
They certainly have enough talent to be better than 7-8. I continue to be amazed that a franchise gifted one of the greatest RBs and WRs in their primes hasn't won more than 1 playoff game total in the past 20+ years.
Fire him now!
fired him at halftime!
1. Fire Schwartz.
2. Hire RichRod.
Should have fired him at halftime on Monday.
Well, actually should have fired him 12 months ago.
I can't believe he hasn't already been fired. What are they waiting for?
Waiting for the cost ($12M) of firing him to go down?
According to a few reports, the cost of firing Schwartz sits at avout $12 million, which is approximately how much he is still owed on his contract. Interestingly, there was this (LINK) to an article which references an ESPN report stating that the Lions actually had considered firing Schwartz last year, but that ownership did not want to pay out the balance of the contract at the time. It quotes someone as saying that the questions of team discipline and Schwartz's general demeanor are not new questions basically.
One of the few NFL teams that are losing money. This obviously puts pressure on the Fords to do something. I suppose they could keep him, but writing off a bad $12 million now is better than continuing to lose money. Get an coach who excites the base and go from there.
My only concern is that there isn't a coach who will excite the fan base. The Lions have rolled the dice in every way, shape, and form with their coaching hires over the past 30 years. Steve Mariucci was arguably the most high-profile coaching candidate they've hired in that stretch, and we ran him outta town fairly quickly. I should be patient and see what candidates materialize, but I'm already sullen and solemn going into the Lions off-season.
Can we please get a gif of Brady after the int/tad at the end looking for someone to high five? Please?
If he's gone, do it now. I. Think O"Brien would be a great pick for the Lions. I think he could make Stafford into an elite QB and bring some football IQ to the team.
I'm just TIRED of the Lions misfits.
Honestly i came by just to laugh at those that were angry, i went lions free years ago and normally troll lions fans but it christmas and i wont do that tonight. I will say this though, any of you that think the lions are capable of making good fundamental decisions to run an organization are setting yourself up for massive let downs.
once you realize that your football seasons will be much easier to stomach, and you will not watch the lions unless a fantasy game is on the line.
i am glad I am lions free after this
I did the same and it changed my life for the better.
I am an addict ok? Is there anyone out there who can help me?
Shut your mouth!
sure, you keep thinking things will change.
dont forget i dont need to open my mouth to continue laughing
Myself, I enjoy NFL football and will continue to watch the Lions. However, I am learning to find other things to do when the season starts to go bad. While I won't ever quit the Lions I have started to back away a bit. This team ruins football for me sometimes and that tells me that I have to let go.
How old are you? Did you quit the Tigers 10 years ago?
as possible. If not right now, then right.....now
Has to go now. Team has no sense of urgency. Things get tight and they turtle. Stafford has no mental toughness. Throws the pick six, and then given multiple opportunities to make up for it makes zero contribution the rest of the game. A lot of talent on this team going nowhere. Time for a change.
pressing. He is feeling the heat and it shows. Unfortunately, the Lions receivers outside of Calvin are terrible. You can only attack teams with RB's and TE's so much.
He has to go
Call him at 3:00 AM with the news.
Fire him during his post game press conference/
Schwartz should be fired before he leaves the stadium tonight. Hate that arrogant prick with a passion. Give O'Brien and Kelly a call before the morning.
Stafford is as much of a liability as he is a threat at this point. There has been no real growth in his skills since his first full season. The guy has no touch and has thrown way too many balls out of the reach of our huge receivers this season.
Kelly?? No thanks.
I'm not sure what Kelly we are talking about
As I noted in another post his contract and age(26 in 14') means the Lions have to stick with him. Give him a coach who understands offense, who will correct his flaws. However, Stafford has to be willing to do this. If he is there is no reason he cannot be a Pro Bowler. If he is not then the Lions are screwed because they have him locked up until 17' with a big contract.
Both the Lions and Stafford have to make a concerted effort to improve this offseason. The Lions by hiring a new coach and Stafford by being humble enough to evaluate his game honestly.
Just fire him now and save yourself the agony later. He will clearly not be here next season either way. Part ways and leave it at that. When was the last lions coach to get another head coaching gig in the nfl? I can't name one.
Send message now and give yourself enough time to get a jump on job search. Cowher?
Right fucking now before he gets home
Absolutely no benefit to keep him around another week. Letting him go now sends a message that losing can no longer be acceptible.
He has to go tomorrow.
And trade Stafford in the offseason, because apparently people around here still think he has value, so maybe other teams do too. The guy is not good, but people salivate because every once in a blue moon he makes a great throw because of his cannon arm.
traded him. The guy is talented. Is he struggling? Yes. But so is Eli Manning. So did Philip Rivers. It happens. The Lions need to get him a coach who will work with him on his mechanics, who will get him some good receivers.
His age and contract mean he is not going anywhere. He also is the Lions most productive and talented QB since Lane and you want to dispose of him like yesterday's trash. Insane.
I hated Stafford this year but he's way more talented than anyone they've had in a long long time. If we get someone to help his mechanics and decision making he's definitely good enough to win many games.
Sorry I forgot about the season where he threw for 5000 yards, 41 tds and 14 INTs. He's only 26 and the talent is there. Giving up on him is stupid.
Add in 44 int's to those stats as well.
over the last two seasons Stafford is #1 in INT's. You really believe his TD/INT ratio is admirable?
Take away that year (16 picks btw) and he's got 67 TDs and 55 interceptions. (4 seasons).. That's downright terrible, straight brutal. Lets not forget maybe the best WR ever. Lions get good quarterback play and go to the playoffs. That simple
His WR corps has also been in flux the past two years which hasn't helped. The Lions lead the league in drops and have a WR corps made up of vagabonds. It's Megatron and the 7 dwarfs out there. You have conveniently left out these facts.
Again, get him a coach who knows offense and who will work with him on his mechanics. They have to really since he contract makes him uncuttable.
I'm not saying cut him, saying trade him. 2. He's got decent weapons, not great, but decent enough. 3, Stafford has said a million times, there really isn't anything wrong with his machanics. so how do u fix something that he wont admit is wrong? 4, Fixing his machanics wont improve his awful decidion making anyway
Secondly, his WR's are terrible. Burleson, Ross, Durham, Ogletree,..are not "decent".There is no getting around the stat of leading the league in drops. There is no getting around guys being incapable of getting open consistently.
Thirdly, he has to change. If he isn't willing to do so then the Lions are screwed. Hopefully, this season causes him to re-evaluate what he is doing. Oh and having a good QB coach would help as well.
Fourthly, his decision making has suffered because of the want of talent at WR. Between guys dropping balls and failing to get open consistently he has felt the need to make guys get open. This leads to INT's. Get him guys he can trust to get open, a coach who work with him and go from there. If after two seaosns he still is making the same errors then I'd say it's time to move on. By then eating his contract would be more palatable.
makes your receiving core decent. Great receving running backs, decent run game, and decent tight ends too (Pettigrew is a drop machine, but he makes a lot of great catches too) makes his weapons basically decent
That is patently absurd. You need other receivers to make an offense run well. Teams can limit Megatron(as we have seen this year). You need receivers who can get open and stretch the field. The Lions don't have that. The RB's and TE generally are not going to stretch the field. Everything will be within 5-10 yards. The Lions need receivers who can not stretch the field, but who are reliable pass catchers.
Again, the Lions lead the league in drops. You keep ignoring that. Why?
Stafford is the best QB the Lions have had in 60 years. Has he regressed? Yes. But we have seen what he can do. Giving up on him after two years is incredibly shortsighted.
I wont disagree with that...... but he still isn't good.
If you truly think the Lions problem is Stafford then you aren't watching the games. Stafford isn't the one fumbling, blowing coverages, or dropping balls.Their problem is systematic and teamwide.
He isn't going anywhere so all your kvetching is for nought.
I realize they need a new secondary, and better 2nd and 3rd WRs. However, if they had a good quarterback, hell even an avergae one this year they go to the playoffs. His december has been some of the worst football...
Do remember that he started really well. I think that the issues at WR are a reason for his struggles. The guy has displayed the ability to win games.
He has to get a lot better. I don't deny that. But the team around him has to get better. Better receivers, corners, and most of all, coaching.
who were all of these great receivers in 2011? oh, pretty much the same crew as now. and the o-line now is arguably better. so what's the difference? stafford. it is quite possible that 2011 was just an outlier year, and stafford just isn't that good. even inge had a couple good years among his 10 brutal ones.
No first downs for the giants in the second half, and he gives them a TD while up 7. A portion of Staffords drops can be on him as well. Hard to catch passes 5-10 yards away when it's 100 MPH coming from a low arm angle
See Megatron vs the Bucs. Several of his INTs have come from guys not making the catch.
thats why i only said a portion of his drops... and not all
the receiver. It isn't just the drops. It has been a collaborative effort.
Exactly, I'm sure Fauria was credited with a "drop" on that pick. But it was just a terrible throw.
But dude, he's just like Brett Favre!!!! U haven't heard!?
Or today, if time travel is not possible.
Am I the Lions or am I the Fords? The front office wanted to fire him at the end of last season and the Fords said no. Schwartz is the new Millen.
I'll pat Schwartz on the back, tell him he's doing a good job, and give him a nice raise.
Matt Millen. Go to dinner with the old man, laugh at his jokes, get a raise (and another year).
I did not watch the game. Thank god. After seeing that gif of him f bombing a fan I say immediately. That is probably one of the worse things that can happen.
I have seen slightly above average players in Detroit for every sport be beloved by the city and considered immortals. All those players did was embrace the city back and play with all their effort. Schwartz needed to know this. To name a few of those players:
Let me say tht there is about as much of a chance of Schwartz getting fired as Borges. That is to say, none.
Now, if I was in charge, he'd be gone now and so would Mayhew. You can't gain a thing by keeping them around another week. There's no time like the present to start the coaching search.
First paragraph- why do you say that?
I think there is an almost certain chance Schwartz will be gone this offseason. He has lost all of the fan support. Minus quick early season starts this year and two years ago, nothing has happened that would give any optimism going forward. Stafford has regressed to the point that maybe Shaun hill should have been our guy these last 6 weeks. At some point you would think we wouldn't have senseless penalties but still in year 4 in every game the lions shoot themselves in the foot almost constantly.
Something needs to be done or next year will be the same tune.
Do you guys realize dumping Schwartz is not going to change a darn thing. The next lions coach is going to get fired 4 years from anyways. You could put my deceased dog as Head coach and you will have the same results.
The thrashing of a dead donkey is not necessary.
Sooner fans realize it is hopeless rooting for the lions the better. the track record over 50 years of Ford ownership is there.
Nope. I don't. Humans are a territorial species.
Yet you're still here peppering the thread. If it's so hopeless, why do you still care? Why even spend time posting about it?
At some point, Lions fans who complain about how awful it is to be Lions fans become more of a problem for their own emotional well-being than the franchise itself.
What can I say I love the pain of losing to make me feel alive. Go cubs and lions.
I'll let you know when I start cutting myself.
I concluded 30 years ago that the loyal fans who continue to purchase Lions season tickets are no different than friends of an alcoholic who give him bottles of bourbon for Christmas. It's enabling.
got any booze? At least there are the Red Wings.
FWIW, I think the ambition is to have a head coach that is not analogous to a deceased dog.
I think you start evaluating head coaching prospects now, but you let him finish the season out (next week) and fire him right away on Black Monday. Then again, it's the Ford family and they put up with Millen for how much longer than they should have? Even if they do pull the trigger and fire Schwartz, I don't trust that they'll find the right candidate for the job.
The Lions upgraded the talent this year but was that Mahew or Brian Xanders who they brought in from Denver in January? The Lions had a history prior to this year of drafting guys with high upside who have had injury issues. The main example is Jahvid Best. There have been a lot of wasted draft picks during the Mayhew years.
I think Mayhew needs to go to and let Xanders take over. Hopefully he can pick a decent coach since he didn't receive training from Millen.
I think you dissolve the franchise to end the torture of the fans and players.
I thought a year ago that Stafford looks fat and out of shape, and that I guess he can get away with it, with the monster contract. I hoped Schwartz could get him to man up, because a real pro doesnt do this. And then we go 4-12. I was hoping itd happen this year but didnt. Now Schwartz will lose job... Whoever it is has to get this done
He isn't fat and out of shape.
Green Bay loses and Chicago is getting torn apart by Philadelphia.
and sell the Lions. Honestly, unless a coach who's done it before is given complete control, we're never going to win.
I wish this was a road game. On the bus ride from the airport we could've yanked Scwartz off the bus like USC did Lane Kiffin.
Normally I'm not one to call for a man to lose his job, but I really don't see how keeping Schwartz can be justified. A complete failure to perform. This team has incredible talent and potential, and they simply weren't well-prepared week in and week out. That's coaching.
Edit: Did not read the title closely. Haha, I see what you did there. Nice. Anyway, I would take care of business ASAP
Part of the problem for Lions fans is that they perenially overestimate the talent on the team. They're obviously poorly coached, but saying they're incredibly talented is a bit ridiculous to me.
Well this is a very talented team compared to the last 50 lions teams.
There are gaps for sure, but playmakers abound on the roster. Enough talent to win more games than they have, at any rate.
If you consider payroll as a proxy for talent, that might bolster my case as well. Though certainly, some confounding variables there...
You get rid of Schwartz now. But it's not going to happen.
is that the Lions job is a dead end job. The NFL coaching fraternity is very close knit. They all know the Lions organization is a job killer, a career ender. They have never had a big name coach, and they never will. It is a loser organization, with a loser culture that is nearly impossible to overcome. They have so much talent, it's so disappointing. But they will never get a big name coach there. Never gonna happen!
The only reason this is a loser organization, with a loser mentality, is because we keep hiring LOSERS.
I think coaches have big enough egos that they think they can come in here and make a difference. I do think Schwartz made a difference. He got us over one hump, he just couldn't get us over the next hump. Hopefully the Fords find someone who can!!
Hire Urban right now, I remember the Yankees led by an OSU alum took Henson away from us early, plus I'm not a lions fan so I don't care if Urban is the coach just get him out of OSU!
I've seen enough out of the Lions over the course of my lifetime to believe that the only way they're going to get any better is either if:
A) The Fords sell the team. Which won't happen.
B) Whoever is given the HC position next is a proven commodity who is able to take complete control and do things their way.
I'm not a football expert by any stretch, but when you're this bad for this long, this is an ownership problem. If the Fords were even halfway decent owners, you would've found a good coach by accident by now.
Mariucci was supposed to be that very proven commodity. Didn't work out.
That's the problem with the Lions: they have no idea how to evaluate coaching ability in relation to what they need.
Mariucci got a positive reputation from his stint with the 49ers, but he walked into a franchise that had had 14 consecutive double-digit win seasons and won five Super Bowls as of when he assumed the 49er job, and within three seasons the 49ers had double-digit losses. He didn't have to build a winning program from scratch, which is exactly the task he was faced with in Detroit. Being saddled with an idiot for a GM didn't help his cause, either.
If Mariucci was such a proven commodity, he would have gotten another HC gig somewhere in the NFL. It's been over a decade since he left the Lions, and plenty of HC spots have opened up and been filled.
Heck they could have hired Tom Coughlin at half time!
I like to watch.... that Titus Young seems like a nice fella... in the fall we must harest the garden.
You have to fire him, but only if you have a good list of candidates who are realistic.
i was hoping jim harbaugh would slap him around again before he got canned.
the guy was a mediocre coach on his best days, a complete bafoon always.
Just like Richrod should have been gone after OSU there is simply no benefit to keeping the captain of a I sinking ship
How about this beauty:
So...f-bombing the fans is supposed to get your own team fired up?
I change my mind. I no longer care that it's three days before Christmas. Schwarz can get his shit and get out. Right now.
I haven't been too enthusiastic about the whole Fire Schwartz thing until I saw that. You know what, Schwartz, you asshole, we spent the whole game supporting the team and getting loud on 3rd down and 4th down and it wouldn't do a bit of good because your shit defense would just give up the conversion anyway. I have no voice the same as I do after every home game because I hollered my lungs out as usual only to watch your team piss away another game. I have every right to boo, especially when you make pussy decisions and choke away a season.
So fuck it. Fire his ass. Hell, drop the axe on Wednesday for all I care. It's bad enough he coaches a team of chokers but getting pissy about fan behavior when we were getting loud and cheering throughout that whole game regardless of how hard they tried to give it away....that's bullshit.
If the Lions have to pay him $12 million, they may as well get one more week of work out of him.
dreadful (typical) Lions season and clean house (AGAIN).
I think Mayhew is doing a good job assembling talent, but this staff does nothing with it.
Schwartz is a boob, his endless poor decisions and the inability of the defense to make a critical stop or the offense's inability to hold onto the ball (EXECUTION) is why this staff needs to go. Maybe keep G. Cunningham, but the rest are questionable at best. This team as much talent as anyone in the league and they can't get above .500.
He has just hired a bunch of boobs in the front office. Yes, Schwartz should be fired. How do you take a 6-3 record and not make the playoffs with one of the easiest records!
I don't see what the big deal is with him saying "fuck you" to the fans. He's been doing that for the past 2 seasons with his undisciplined excuse for a "team."
sooner than later. He's gotta go. If there was EVER a year for the Lions to win their division, this was the year. Instead, they totally choked the division lead away.
Continuing to turn over coaches is not the answer and they are not getting a better coach.
They must fire Schwartz, but should wait until the end of the season. Potential new coaches might see firing a guy three days before Christmas and during the season as a sign of a dickish owner. Coaches and staff of playoff teams who want to leave might want to lay low until after the playoffs. I would put out feelers. It is no secret that the Lions are looking.
12 million isn't that big of a deal.
This team has no guts and no brains. Oodles of talent and even it a decent coach will make huge strides with this team. Scwartz is a complete knucklehead (as indicated by his tantrum with the fans yesterday).
This team should have had the division wrapped weeks ago...They were 6-2 when Rodgers and Cutler got hurt...they've won 1 game since. Talk about a blown opportunity.
I don't kow if BOB is the answer or not....but I would think this job should be the pick of the litter if/when it comes open. They are the closest of all the jobs likely to be open to having success.
...I don't think Schwartz is the primary problem. The players have to decide to play. They have to self motivate. They have to find leaders within themselves to inspire and lead and push them on to become a playoff team.
Part of the problem I have with the NFL is that it's a fraternity of wealthy, spoiled brats -- especially evident to some degree with the Lions.
Would you like to keep playing in post season, or take the BIG money and get an early start on vacationing and golfing??
