OT: I think I might have made a mistake ...

Submitted by IUandUofM on

So last week I posted about getting a personalized license plate here in Columbus.  Everyone warned me ... but I didn't listen.  Got the plates today, put them on, and went to the car wash and grocery store ... in the 30 mins out and about, I was honked at 3 times, told by the car wash attendant that he would have to charge me extra, and then had someone follow me in his car long enough to take a photo of the back plate with his cell phone.  I did survive though ... so far.

Yeah.  The honking and comments would get annoying but they would be nothing compared to getting your car keyed or worse.

I have a friend who grew up in Columbus but she got her Master's and her Doctorate from UM.  Last time she went home to visit her mom, her car was keyed on both sides because she had a UM licence plate.  The car was parked in front of her mom's house for one hour, on the very block she grew up on before it was eventually keyed.

I support your academic allegiance, the choice of transportation and the license plate. But put them together, in The State of Ohio, you have to admit that you've been spectacularly successful at embodying the stereotype of a Michigan fan. Please complete the picture by employing many Ohio State graduates.

You're not going to be surprised; your curiosity will be satisfied, knowing I have one of these, which did not exist in days of yore...

I've had my car in Columbus many times.  I do a lot of backing into parking places, and very little parking on the street.  Although I can say, that I parked next to Eddie George's bar, left my car there, and it went unharmed.  You never know.  My car's been parked on State Street in Madison, too.  And lived to tell about it.

True Story: I was on my way to school one day when I saw the car ahead of me (a pretty nice and pristine looking saturn) had UM Alumni plate covers, and being driven by a guy looking to be in his mid twenties. About an mile or two later an old man in this beat up old Toyota Camry (89'?) pulls into the lane next to the Saturn, and sure enough they have a bumper sticker which reads
"Ohio State Alumni"... I wish I had had a camera.

I have a friend who has a U of M license plate and lives in Cleveland.  She was in Columbus for a few hours one day and her tires were slashed.

That is the difference between OSU fans and Michigan fans.  Michigan fans don't vandalize the cars of OSU fans, but OSU fans do vandalize the cars of Michigan fans.  It's been that way for as long as I can remember.  That is because Michigan fans only "hate" OSU in the way one would "hate" a villian in a movie, where OSU fans honestly and personally hate everything about Michigan.

That takes a lot of courage with that beautiful car. I just passed through Oh., stayed in Cambridge, about 30 miles east of Hell. With all of the locals,  I took my winged helmut off the car for fear of getting the tires slashed.  They actually sell "Go Bucks" playing cards at the Bob Evans restaurant. The sickness has spread well out beyond the epicenter.  Good luck with that car!!

Darwin was right - driving that car with those plates in Columbus suggests that maybe a few basic courses were missed during your time at Michigan.
