OT: Huge Michigan High School Football Upset

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on
I don't know many people on here know their highschool football but #7 Sterling Heights Stevenson got rolled by Howell 35-0. Stevenson is a team that was 13-1 and state runners-up last season. I was shocked hearing in the lockerroom that got beat like that, I thought it was a joke. Apparently this game was at Rynearson stadium in Ypsilanti.

I don't understand why dIKE? They haven't beat you in a long time. Dakota-Stevenson would seem bigger because the teams are always good when they play like that classic last season. We hate Stevenson over here at Utica but only because theyre always up there and good. Nevertheless I'm attending Stevenson-dIKE next week.

Let me guess you go to mallow? I play for Utica freshman. Oh God how I wish Utica would play dIKE so I could get my hands on some of those people for the stuff they talk about people who live in Utica. At least you're a Michigan fan!

I go to Shelby actually I almost played freshman this year. Too bad our guys won't be playing you, our school was really looking forward to it. Although it would have tore it apart. Anyway, our freshman team beat Ford 34-0 two days ago.

Ford Sucks. we beat up on Sterling Heights who also sucks 44-6. Unfortunately I blew my knee out in the game and am out the whole season and need surgery. I would love to see Utica-dIKE before I graduate. I remember when I was 12 watching Utica beat them 7-6 back the last time they played in 07 and remember the crazyness and gathering in downtown Utica seeing people burn garbage cans and etc. Utica-dIKE was definetely more intense than dIKE-Stevenson or Utica-Mott

Hmm.... what does gathering and burning everything in a downtown area remind me of... it's a city more east of Ann Arbor, I think it's the East part of a city... who knows.

Anyway I haven't been following high school football for a long time. If I head to the Stevenson- Ike game next week maybe I'll see you there (If it's @ Swinehart, if not then disregard this) I got Maize and Blue Nikes though, lol. Anyway, I'm going to sleep. Also, my dad played @ Sterling Heights when he went there, it's funny to hear how bad they were/are

Hahaha it was insanity because we cost dIKE the division title that year. Some were going for the goalposts to try to tear em down but those damn cops in the endzones. And yeah I'll be at dIKE-Stevenson at Utica Stadium. So maybe. I usually cause a ruckus because the shirt I wear with the block U on it. I had stuff thrown at me once (Hmm sounds like a place south of Michigan)

That game/night might have been intense, but IKE had won something like 20 straight before then, the only reason it's considerd a rivalry is because of the shared field. Sorry to hear about your knee same thing happend to me in hs it sucks, but IKE vs stevenson is def the "historic" series. Utica needs to bring back the Miami "U" on the helmets those uni's used to be sweet.

Ike stevenson was the big rivalary because Lantzy and Bye, I don't know if he coaches anymore, went at it for 30 something years and when I left Ike was up 1 in the all time series. Thats a pretty even series, and until Chip Valley came on in the late 90's it was IKE of stevenson that won the conf almost every year. It was the Mich osu of Mac red football.

Listened to it on the radio.   Muskegon did shoot themselves in the foot a few times with turnovers and penalties but that's part of the game and Dakota capitalized on their chances.

Both teams should do well this season.

Some things are known, like the fact that my alma-matter, who has won 3 games in the last 3 years combined, will undoutably be horrible for yet another year. '08 was rough seeing as how the 3 football teams I like to root for ended up going 4-33 on the year. UM was 3-9, Lions were 0-16, and my alma matter was 1-8...

Started for a team that went undefeated in the regular season and was #1 in the state. I played for the tail end of the 6 straight conf titles in the early 2000's. dIKE is a really weak nickname, at least chip valley, stevenson students were more creative in my day. I haven't followed whats gone on over the last few years but utica kids used to know better then to take shots at a team they had beat twice in 35 years.

It's one thing when dIKE people call people that they don't even know white trash and poor just because they go to Utica. But then they go on how everyone who goes there is rich as hell. My response to that is build your own damn stadium and stay on your side of 23 mile and we'll do the same and we can both continue on our respective rivalries (dIKE-Stevenson, Utica-Cousino)

I think the district doesn't want Utica-dIKE because they "share" a stadium. But yet they allow Stevenson-Ford. Or maybe because of the damage it caused to downtown when Utica wins (2007 last time they met)

Wow the MAC-Red is really overrated.

Howell 35  #7 Stevenson

Troy 31    #30 Romeo 7

Troy Athens 31  Warren-Mott 19 (hahaha)

Dearborn 41  Chippewa Valley 14

Only wins were Dakota over 4 Muskegon and dIKE over lowly Ford
