OT: How many days during the week do you drink?

Submitted by Bluetotheday on
I give up trying to figure what is or isn't appropriate. It's football season, what's your best excuse for a drink?

On special occassions now. My love for alcohol has only dwindled ever since my twenty's. I figure that if I don't really care for it why drink it?

In fairness to Glen Mason's Hot Wife, alcohol is really terrible for you. It's bad for your brain, potentially causing very early dementia, and it's not so good for the other organs either. It does not compare favorably with other common (illegal) drugs of abuse for health risks.

That said, bottoms up.

I do not believe there is any actual medical evidence that supports your argument (as vague as it is) as long as alcohol is consumed in moderation. And unlike the other drugs of abuse you mentioned without any supporting evidence, alcohol actually has a pretty robust body of evidence seeing as how it's not illegal.

There is a huge difference between having one drink each night compared to many many drinks over a few nights. Having said that I'm usually a glass of wine guy 2 nights a week with dinner and alternate between Friday or Saturday to have a few drinks

Varies quite a bit in periods but over the course of a year, it probably comes to an average of 1.5 days a week.

Just turned 31. I'm down to only Saturday & Sunday afternoons (during football season). I'm still trying to figure out how I drank 6 nights a week in college. Either my tolerance went up and I consume more alcohol per drinking occasion, or hangovers are just massively worse in your early 30's compared to early 20's -- like exponentially worse.

And it's just not as fun to be shitfaced when you're older...you learn that establishing a happy buzz and riding that all day is way cooler and a lot more fun than just getting blitzed and trying to function one step before blackout.

You feel better the next day too (obviously).

Also, in college, people think water is the enemy, like if you have water while you drink it's going to eliminate that beer you just chugged. As an adult you learn that water just helps you pace, but you still can have a buzz...and you don't pay for it the next day nearly as much.

I'd like to supplement this: in college, you don't really need to function the next day. Your next responsibilities are whnr you start drinking again the following afternoon. In your late 20s/early 30s, you can't sleep until 4:00. The kids and dog would not appreciate it. So you have less time to recover. That said, water still makes me sick when I'm hung over.

I go real hard one night a week. If it's college football season the day is Saturday starting with Michigan game and then proceed to black out.
My hangover usually lasts til after my gym visit on Tuesday afternoon. I am ready to go again by the next Saturday.
