OT: How intelligent is America?

Submitted by yostlovesme on

I don't consider myself to be smartest person in the world, but day in and day out of listening to the stupid things people say I find myself thinking I am smart.  I went out last Friday to a bar wearing my Worst State Ever shirt and ONLY ONE PERSON COULD NAME THE STATE ON MY SHIRT!!!!!!!  Seriously?!?!?!  I live in Pa and Penn State considers Michigan and Ohio State to be their bittter rivals, and they can't even name the state of Ohio.  The only person who got it was a girl who graduated from Penn State.  This is why America is dumb.

I know my geography, but if I saw a shirt with "Worst State Ever" written inside a rectange, I'd most likely just see it as "Worst State Ever" written inside a rectangle, unless I happen to feel very strongly about CO or WY that day.

since we're on the topic, maybe commission another shirt with new jersey's outline and the words "america's taint." that state is located right next to a bunch of important things (new york, philly, DC, etc.) but lacks any clear purpose itself.

apologies to our friends from jersey on the board.

I am not from Philly, and actually like NJ (even though I love in NYC) but  what city in NJ is even comparable in what it offers to Philly?

I've been to Philly a bunch of times and I think it is an incredibly underrated city.  They have Penn which is a top top notch school, awesome restaurants, good sports, Center City is pretty nice to live in, museums, etc and although not comparable to NYC/SF it actually has some interesting industries (not enough). I think the city gets a bad rep because of idiots like that barf dude, but I was extremely impressed by what it offered

Are you sure they didn't know? Have you considered the possibility that the general public of Pennsylvania has simply done a magnificent job of blocking the black hole of America out of their conscience to the point of honest denial in a public setting?

1. Think of how dumb the average American seems.

2. Think of all the people bringing down that average even more.

3. Go support Miss South Carolina Teen USA in her quest for maps.

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.

It's a loaf of Wonderbread that's been at the bottom of the grocery sack for two days.

And how can I insert an image into the body of a comment? I can't figure it out, which I guess means I'm as dumb as Miss South Carolina and her maps.

... the older you get, the more you realize it.  The hard part is remembering that being smarter doesn't mean a goddamn thing.  What's meaningful is what you do with your smarts and how you treat others, regardless of their intelligence.
