OT: How does USC have 23 commits?
I was just browsing scout and noticed USC has 23 commits already for this years class. I know they are losing 30 schollies over 3 years so what am I missing? I assumed they could only take 15/ year for the next 3 years. Can they get away with taking a full 25 this year, then only taking 10/year for the next 2?

The scholarship reductions haven't started yet. They're appealing that part of the punishment.

USC is expecting a lot of attrition this year, especialy on the offensive side of the ball, once the players figure out that Lane Kiffin is a salesman who thinks Student Body Right has something to do with the College Republicans.

You can remove the "/jk". This is a safe place for corny jokes.

They only signed 18 or whatever last year, so they can have a number of Early Enrollees this year that count to last year's scholarship count.
EDIT: This is from Stewart Mandel's Mailbag column addressing the issue:
"Scholarships are based on the academic calendar, not the football calendar. Because USC only signed 18 players last year, 14 of whom enrolled last fall, it can count its nine early enrollees in the current class toward the 2010-11 school year. Should the original ruling stand, the 15-player limit goes into effect in 2011-12 and will include all players that enroll this fall (which may include some recruited walk-ons). It still can't go over the NCAA-imposed 75-scholarship limit for its overall roster."

It seemed unfair when I lived in Michigan. Now that I'm here, I'm not complaining...eye candy galore!

Yes there is good amount of talent in So Cal. I just wouldn't hang around the area around USC campus alone at night. USC's campus is such a strange thing.

I see what you did there with the use of "talent"...and I approve.

Lane Kiffin spent one season in the SEC. 'Nuff said. And with NCAA sanctions, I think USC is now full for the next 3 recruiting classes.

Beat me to it! +1 to you.

You know what ole Jack Burton always says at a time like this?
January 14th, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
Remember, Kiffin coached in the SEC where scholarship number restrictions are merely a suggestion...

As a michigan alum who works at USC I can tell you that the expected high today is 81 degrees.

Perhaps the value of playing football at USC outweighs the cost of paying full tuition???

I believe Kiffin's plan is to sign a larger class this year than the next two. Calculated gamble on his part.
