OT: How can you be so bad at your one job?
Where do I sign up to be an instant replay official?
I mean... how can you be so bad at your job? How many times have we seen conclusive evidence not be recognized? Is there a vision test?
Wow.
How about being an official watching the end line? Foot on line, ball changes possession. Unless you're Duke.
Bando,
How much would it annoy you when a guy in the stands said "hey, you're off on your sixteenth note!" Much worse, "upon playing that syncopated 64th note, you were off, and 40 minutes later, you played a pitch too high". That's two incorrect "calls", and you don't even have an obstruceted view to your lyre!
Would you be wrong? Maybe yes, maybe no, but you were the expert then. It was you who had played the notes thousands of times in practice, hundreds of hours in games before (assuming you did high school band, which duh!). And lol at the guy calling you out, because
a.) you're human, so you're not 100% perfect, and
b.) you're the darn near best option.
Apply the same to refs. (Admission, I was a college ref, so I'm biased. [only intramural, but I've seen it from their perspective])
Oh come on.
And if you can't keep a beat, for god sakes DON"T be the Drum Major... Maybe some guys should have stayed back on the drumline. You know, like these refs tonight!!!
Intramural? I don't think that qualifies as an inside perspective. When I was there literally anyone could join and competence was extremely rare, especially among the people teaching the new officials the rules.
...and I'm a musician, who has played a lot of times for money.
Guess what? Lots of folks call you out. People will regularly tell you that you suck... people who can't play an instrument at all.
It's just part and parcel of being a performer or any other "public view" job - if you aren't ready to handle (or ignore) criticism from the crowd, you aren't in the right job.
fuck Duke.
I feel like every big game Duke wins they have to shoot at least 20 free throws. some of those calls were just awful. The refs were bad in the Kentucky-Wisconsin game too but at least they were awful to both sides.
down the stretch. A marvelous game just got away from the officials a little, IMO.
clearly off his fingers.
Also, two charges on Winslow (one not called, the other on "Bronson" . . .not sure on speling)
Gifs will surely come. Those were errors, IMO.
I just don't see it.
Doesn't everybody's finger bend completely backwards like that when nothing but air touches it?
It went off his fingers for sure. But the refs don't have a 50 inch 4K TV setup like most of 'Muherica does for replay. It was close even under the best of viewing conditions. This didn't cost WIsky the game. Blowing a 9 point lead did; basketball is 40 minutes long.
There has to be a fix. There's no way somebody could be that blind on a replay. It wasn't even live. I'd take Teddy Valentine or Gene steratore all day over these clowns.
When we're all getting nostalgic over TV Ted officiating a Duke game, you know something's wrong.
You are making the assumption that their job is to fairly call the game. Their job was to make sure the favored program and coach did not lose that game.
They won't be fired, they did their job as expected of them.
It's hard to say this, but Wisconsin got screwed over even worse by the refs than we did 2 years ago. Incredible.
I wouldn't go quite that far. Our screw job was one for the ages.
It's not like the refs gave a foul to some other player that allowed Luke Never Miss to stay on the court and rain three pointers. Still scratching my head.
should have had people checking the officials bank accounts.
They couldn't replay the block though. The refs had a chance to look at it and still messed up the call.
That block was an easier call to make live than the oob was on replay. Look at it! So clean.
Even Trey's right arm is in perfect position to not touch the other player and draw a foul.
It's a picture perfect clean block.
But watching the game live, the ref went for the whistle as soon as they went up. He was going to call it a foul regardless. It was too irresistable. He did not even wait for the actual play, he just called it in anticipation.
How the game was officiated totally changed at the half.
Wisconsin averages 12.5 fouls per game, which is the fewest in the country. The refs called 13 on them in the SECOND HALF. It completely ruined what was a great game.
It's not misleading at all. It's actually really straightforward. You're talking missed calls which is a hell of a lot murkier than called (read: committed) fouls.
Sure, and if they called those fouls in the first half I wouldn't hate it. But to be inconsistent within a game because Coach K complained is infuriating.
Holy fuck that game was just disgusting.
Because nothing happens to them when they screw up. I mean, sure one of them might be chastised publicly, but the NCAA is as much about politics as anything, so if you are an established ref it takes quite a bit of f-ing up to get unseated.
It was a good game marred by some bad possessions by Wiscy and terrible officiating.
when they so obviously screw up, over and over and over again.
Without a doubt, if I were to perform my job that badly tomorrow, I'd deserve to be fired. And so would most of the rest of you at your jobs. Some of us might even be subject to criminal or civil prosecution (or both) if we did our jobs so poorly.
Fact is, officials lose games all the time. At that level, every call they make is scrutinized by their superiors and it is the best officials that get the best/most games.

+1 for the Mike Mulligan reference. My 2yr old loves that book.
as a kid.
No he just traps himself in a hole, prideful bastard.
Mike Mulligan's shovel was also full of hot air. Hated these refs.
missing OB on the line is one thing, but IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE REPLAY AND SIX DIFFERENT ANGLES, GET IT F'ING CORRECT.
Geez.
That the actual game refs huddle around a tiny TV, is absurd. It should be a booth review like football. Quicker and more accurate.
Dat Dook bias.
Wait, I mean fuck Duke and the overprivileged date rapist they rode in on.
