OT - How to break a 310-game losing streak

Submitted by pasadenablue on

The California Institute of Technology (my alma mater!) broke a 310 game conference losing streak, beating Occidental College (president Obama's alma mater!) 46-45 on a last second free throw.  The Caltech Beavers play in the very competitive SCIAC (Southern California Intercollegiate Atheletic Conference), in NCAA DIvision III.

The last time the Beavers won a conference game was Jan. 23, 1985 - almost two years before I was born.  People are gonna get hammered tonight in Pasadena.

I've since heard this joke refer to many other places, but every time I hear CalTech mentioned, I think of a woman I knew who went there and talked about being surrounded by guys, saying if you wanted a relationship that "the odds are good, but the goods are odd."  For whatever reason, that still cracks me up to this day.

Since that's not actually that good of a joke, I'll add a completely unrelated but much funnier one that I heard in Seattle, where there's a grocery chain called Safeway (which I think is actually quite large, but just not in Michigan):

Q: How do you fit a giraffe in a Safeway cart?

A: Take the s out of Safe and the f out of Way.

If you're not getting it, say aloud what you're thinking a few times (if your boss/child/home isn't too close by) and see if you get it then.

I am a recent michigan grad now doing a PhD in physics at Caltech.  I was at the game and it was awesome.  Just shear elation on the faces of the players and the coaches.  It serves as my definition of a feel good win.
