OT: How are Inge/Raburn still playing pro baseball?

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Kind of a slow day on the board, so I figured I'd toss this out there after Raburn grounded into what is probably his 100th double play of the season. Not only does Raburn play awful defense, he's hitting barely above .200. I don't know if I'm missing something here, but I'd definitely take Jordan Taylor at 2nd and batting 9th over Raburn.

Inge = basically the same story.

Why doesn't Don Kelly play over both of these guys? Batting .250 isn't fantastic, but an additional .050 in the average is more than enough to make up for the supposedly superior defense of Inge.

he's been among if not the best fielding 3B in the league based on UZR and Range Factor.  This is more important than errors.  Brandon Inge have seen more ball batted in his way than anybody.  He has more range than most 3B and can even extend to SS position which is impressive.  More range = more ball in his way = more chance of getting errors.

The more opportunities you have, the more chances for an error to occur.  The situation is probably made worse because those errors are happening at the ends of marginal plays that Don Kelly probably doesn't even get to.

I'm not a huge fan of Inge, but at this point, I don't see an immediately upgradable option.  All you can really do is hope he reverts back to his .235 career average by hitting .260 the rest of the way.

Raburn is playing because the alternatives at second are Santiago and Rhymes, both of whom are worse offensively than Raburn, who at least hits for a little power. Additionally, Raburn has generally been a second-half player, which leads to the hope that he will play better down the stretch.

Inge is playing because the Tigers hope that his struggles earlier this year were a result of poor health. If he can rebound and perform somewhere around his career norms, he is a better option than Kelly, both offensively and defensively. Otherwise, he will stop starting.

Quit your bitching!

Inge and Raburn suck! Tigers dont have many other options at this point. I would rather see them dump Raburn though. Inge is still solid on D even if his bat sucks, thats why he bats 9th.

We all know Raburn is the result of Detroit not realizing that Polanco still had that much in the tank. Every GM makes mistakes. I think DD isnt a bad GM. As for Leyland as the coach, this is the last year of his contract and I dont think Detroit brings him back. They might but I think the odds are against him.
