OT: Honey Badger News

I was listening to Dan Patrick this morning talk about the news coming out on The Honey Badger in the upcoming SI.

Hopefully this kid gets his head on straight before its too late.  He was so much fun to watch last year.  He just makes plays.

His skills were somewhat raw, but clearly his athletic ability is unreal.  He was also a phenominal punt returner.  I'm not sure of his coverage skills, but he was constantly causing turnovers and making plays.

Bottom line is he better get his life straigh or he's going to waste it away!

A lot of highly publicized and immensely sucessful college players don't get drafted in the first two rounds in the NFL for a variety of reasons.  Sometimes it is the right decision (ex. Eric Crouch), and sometimes the player overcomes those critiques to have a great career (ex. Doug Floutie).  The points many people made about him only being a sophomore are very valid as well.

the worst thing possible might be for him to land in the NFL; with all the leeches and parasites he's got back home who regard him as nothing more than a meal ticket, his money would disappear as quickly as Vince Young's did. Lucas is doing great things trying to get people like Mathieu back on track, but he's up against some heavy odds in this case.

I really wish Tyrann well. Such a sad story, one that has been repeated so many times. My own family has been affected deeply by someone who couldn't get clean and make good choices:  as a result, we adopted twins to help out.

I have a few comments, after reading a number of the posts.

  1. Have some compassion on those who make bad choices.
  2. When you have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of someone who is disadvantaged, please do something. I don't mean that you should enable them to continue bad behavior. But if you can show someone a better way to live, try to do something. I've been struck, with my son's football teams, how much of a difference good coaches can make in the lives of many boys.
  3. Relationships and addictions are complicated. Not everyone can just buck up, and do the right thing.
  4. Be thankful for the family you have, especially when you've been given advantages and taught how to deal with substances, and with finances, and with ability.

"It does not matter how many times you get knocked down, but how many times you get up." Vince Lombardi

The news is that he's not going to be back on the field for LSU as he was hoping to do.  His name and photos have been used to promote clubs and it sounds as if he's received benefits from this.  Thus, his eligibility is done.

I would say this is definitely news to the Football world as many thought he was going to have a run at being an All-American and possibly a Heisman shot.........
