I nearly fell off my chair at work, I was laughing so hard at this.

The whole thing is great, but the cut at the end after Lonzo's longer bit got me: "....and fishing".

Very, very well done by Foot Locker.

Somewhere I see Lonzo and his dad high-fiving, laughing, and throwing straight cash money up in the air while watching it flutter as this commercial goes viral.

You get your publicity on your shoe brand from your dad going off all over the media for the last 6 months, and now everyone likes Lonzo again.

Maybe I'm being a bit dramatic, but this was brilliant.

Let's just give this dumb family MORE attention by creating another thread about it.

I think this is hilarious irony, and reflects well on Lonzo Ball for at least having an awareness of the comic absurdity behind his father's antics.

But you get what he's doing, that they're trying to be a part of the joke, to get ahead of the joke, so that the joke isn't as much of a joke anymore.  I'm sure kids in middle school and high school get that same advice; they can't laugh at you if you laugh it off with them.

I won't get desensitized to the fact that Lavar Ball is an absolute blowhard, narcissist, greedy individual, even if his son gets in on the joke.  It's still a bad thing, even if we can laugh at that bad thing.  It's still awful that Lavar Ball is getting airtime, even if we are shocked by and can laugh at the bullshit he says.

tl;dr Lavar Ball is such a disaster and that this commercial exists is a testament to the media enabling his behavior.

I dunno man, Lavar comes off as such a narcissist that I have a hard time believing that this was a bit of brand management that he signed off on. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like his MO -- these are some seriously pointed jokes that just straightforwardly recognize that he acts like an asshole all the time, without pulling punches with any "Oh that Lavar, what a character" winks to the camera. Lavar's current persona of over-the-top bluster is obviously at least partly manufactured, so maybe this is just him switching the brand strategy, but if so, this is a major shift.

Exactly.

Attention whore goes meta about their attention whoring and gets attention for it.

Good execution, smartest PR thing they've done, probably helps Lonzo...but I still wish I had never heard of Lavar Ball, wish that this commercial would have gone completely over my head.

I grinned a little, but it kinda made me feel bad for the kid. It's like he doesn't approve of anything his Dad has done and has bit his toungue up until this commercial. I wonder what his Dad thinks of it? Actually no I don't, dammit. Just go away please. I hope he gets drafted by Minnesota or Toronto.

I want Lakers to pass on him for karma's sake, but he'd be an even better fit with Philadelphia at #3.

Simmons/McConnell
Ball/Stauskas
Saric/Covington
?
Embiid/Okafor

It wouldn't matter who the PG is, really, but Ball was very low-usage in college and could play off-guard pretty seamlessly.

This could be a renaissance for Stauskas with both Simmons and Ball creating looks for him while still allowing him to be a secondary/tertiary ball-handler and distributor.

To believe in Nik, he's had a relatively decent NBA sample size and has been average at best. His increase from year 1-2 was big, but 2-3 was almost non-existant.

I think he is who he is at this point.

As that team continues to get healthy and draft high, Nik's role is going to get more and more pushed to the side.

From what I've been reading, it sounds like there's a decent chance that the Lakers really will go in another direction. The rumor floating around has been that the Lakers weren't super enamored with Ball's workout, and an article in The Ringer today made the case for swapping picks with Phoenix at 4 and getting Josh Jackson, which makes sense from a basketball standpoint -- the redundancy of Jackson with Ingram/other athletic wings (*cough* 2018 LeBron) is less of an issue than the redundancy of Ball and Russell at point. https://theringer.com/2017-nba-draft-trade-down-lakers-suns-8d14f522df02

1) LeBron would be an idiot to sign with the Lakers in 2018-19 - even WITH Paul George, who looks to be more in play than Oakland, we're still 2 years away from making noise.  And I'm pretty sure he's not an idiot.

2) LaVar Ball can go pound sand.  That said, Lonzo's success is going to rise and fall solely on his game.  There are any number of reasons why he might not hack it in the big leagues - insufficient killer instinct, athleticism, defense, half-court shot creation - all of which are pitfalls that can befall any rookie.  Having a clown show dad ranks #5236236 on my list of concerns about 'Zo.

3) My guess is that Ball has a higher ceiling and lower floor than Josh Jackson.  Jackson gives you athleticism and defense - we need a shit ton of things right now, but those are at a premium.  However his bad FT% and off-the-court incident are more worrisome red flags and LaVar being an idiot.  Bottom line is that as a fan, even if I haven't necessarily gotten to where I can say "Trust to coaches/GM", they're calling the shots so I reallly don't have any other choice but trust in whoever LA picks
