OT: Help Ohio (Toledo)
very unfortunate...hope they can figure a way to get that under control

This says you can shower, as long as you don't drink the water.
but I've been reading that the toxin comes from algae blooms. And algae blooms had been noted on Lake Erie prior to this. Seems like they knew it was a possibility.
No wastewater plant says "We can save money by putting toxins in the water" "Brilliant Johnson. Let's do it"
The toxic substance in the water has a lower boiling point than water (although much higher than ambient). That's tricky. Hope nobody decides to heat it up regardless.
When I was out today 8am, you could not find water at kroger, meijer, home dept, anywhere. Luckly I work at a place that sells cases of water wholesale so I had no problem. Anyways water is in beer so drink clean beer!
Kidding aside, hope they get things figured out soon!
The late summer Lake Erie algae blooms are trending worse and worse every year (it was especially bad in 2011). There's a few reasons why: fertilizer run-off, different creatures in the Lake which have an effect on the food chain.
I've read that Toledo/extreme SW Lake Erie are especially susceptible --- the Lake Erie currents aren't as strong there as elsewhere in the Lake to "churn" the water, plus proximity to all the Maumee River run-off.
All the best for thos affected .......
I was at the Meijer in Taylor, MI (nearest me) and saw an abnormal amount of Ohio license plates, which I assumed was tied to this problem. Normally, we're the destination of choice for the folks from Ontario who will often leave with monumental amounts of food and other items.
In any case, there are supposedly - per Kroger and Meijer feeds - veritable convoys of trucks with water being sent to the Toledo / southern Monroe County area to help provide some temporary relief, and there was a story earlier which said the results of the next tests are supposed to be available at around 7:30 PM, if indeed the report is accurate.
Avoid the water, drink and cook with beer.
sorry

Just let the FREE market take care of it... they don't care about profits if it affects your health!
