OT: Help former player with his research project
Hello mgbloggers:
I have in my research class a former Wolverine football player who is doing a project on fan reactions to alternative uniforms. Could you help him by answering a few questions on this wikisurvey? The wikisurvey format asks you to choose between two alternative statements based on which you agree with more strongly. You can answer as many or as few questions as you like, and quit anytime you tire of the task. Click the link below.
He writes:

The purpose of this survey is to gain insight as to your preferences for the alternate jerseys that we have used for the Outback Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Under the Lights game, Alabama game, and the MSU away game.

Edited to add: the survey engine keeps putting up pairs until you decide you are ready to stop - it doesn't have a fixed number of questions and will not ever tell you "that's all folks". So just stop anytime BEFORE you are feeling like you've done too much.

It is a class about exploratory research - trying to get a deeper handle on a problem before proceeding to more formal research (such as traditional surveys). You're right, you guys are definitely a convenience sample (and not randomly plucked from the fan population either), but it will allow him to get a sense of what's out there. So good call on that, but never fear, he will not make the mistake of assuming that these responses are representative of the overall fan base.
Another cool feature of wikisurveys is that they allow respondents to suggest heir own statements to be added and voted on; thus, unlike traditional surveys, they allow for the possibility that the researcher has not really identified the most important issues or questions yet. Also, the sampling is adaptive, so that questions that do exceptionally poorly (or well) are not sampled as often, because we already have a good sense of how they will do (think like one of those adaptive SATs or GREs).
So, add what you don't see, and it may turn up in the survey as well.

I'm always happy to help out so I took as much of the survey as I could stand. After a while though, I felt like poking my eyes out. Kind of like watching an a--hole attorney question someone on the witness stand and ask the same question over and over and over again. If he is reading this, he can put me down for:
1. Tradition is about history and winning.
2. Alternate uniforms have been terrible (although white away pants might be cool and the matte helmet was acceptable)
3. Nike should be the next supplier AS LONG AS no pro combat uniforms.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if there was an end or not. It would be good to make that clear. I just stopped when I felt I had seen all the ideas several times.

It will go on until you are ready to stop - it's not a traditional survey; it just keeps putting pairs together as long as you keep clicking. (We do try to make this clear but habits are hard to break.) But thanks for helping.

I think the point of the survey is to compare all of the possible ideas to one another. If that's the case there would be 45(23) = 1035 possible questions.
You're supposed to quit when you get bored...

Dave, this is the worst place to come with this survey. If you want evidence of public appreciation of the jerseys, stake out a table in Mason Hall or something.
