OT: Heat wave

Submitted by Purkinje on

Who else out there is soaking up as much MGoBlog as they can before the power lines inevitably start being fried by the air conditioners tonight? Before the little bit of rain we just had here in AA swept through, the heat index was 106 degrees. Now it's at 99. I can't wait until Thursday when the straight up temperature is predicted to be 99. If it's as humid as today, the heat index will be 115.

I'm a MI native currently living in Norman, OK and the OKC area has had 50-some days of above-normal temperatures, and three to more weeks of straight 100+ degree days (some have been 110+). If you want to know what that feels like, it's like putting your face in front of an open oven. My AC is set to 80 and that seems like a relief when compared to what's outside. When we came back to visit relatives in the Detroit area last week, it was breathtakingly fresh feeling. I can handle the heat, but the humidity here is killer.

The heat wave of '80 was the worst I remember.  All over the eastern U.S. and south, people were dying from heat-related causes.  I was working in Houston during a summer internship and it never got below 98 for the high the entire 3 months I was there.  But my advice this week is either or all of these:

1) Avoid the Art Fair in AA.

2) Find a cool basement/lower level (like where I am now)

3) Drink lots of cold beer

4)  Head up to Mackinaw - it's always 10 - 12 degree cooler up there than down state

5)  Keep reading more about how f-ed up TSIO is and thinking about what the NCAA is going to do to them to take your mind off the heat.

Check out this madness going on in Ohio.      TheT

Coaches are being encouraged to wear a white shirt and tie during their season openers next month to honor Tressel.

The idea was proposed by Solon coach Jim McQuaide last week when Tressel was inducted into the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association's Hall of Fame. The OHSFCA quickly advanced the recommendation to its more than 750 head coaches.

Tressel was forced to resign last month in the wake of an NCAA investigation, and Ohio State has since vacated all its 2010 victories. The controversy apparently has done little to lessen a strong bond Tressel built with high school coaches during his 26 years at Ohio State and Youngstown State.

Whats your opinion?  And what can you do to stop it?

Excuse me my friend ...Heat Wave?

Where I'm at..... our Heat Wave starts with a 1,followed proudly by another 1 and normally ending with a 5..if your lucky. This season we have seen a 1 followed by a 2, ending with a lonely 0. I'll sum it up for you...Heat Wave in Phx  115* 2 weeks ago we enjoyed 120!   That my Fellow Wolverines is the type of Heat Wave the "Desert Wolverine" endures. If I may, it's not a good environment for a chocolate buckeye...they simply melt!
