OT: Happy Festivus!
Happy Festivus everyone!
The traditional activities of Festivus will of course come later today, but first we must pause to note the Festivus miracles ocurring around us. Specifically:
- The Lions will not lose today
- The 25th of December falls on a Tuesday this year, which means most people get a long (4-day) weekend
- The Mid-American Conference is attempting to trademark the term #MACtion (LINK)
- My ESPN MGoBowl pick-em is in great shape so far
BONUS: You can buy a commercialized version of the unadorned Festivus pole, and it'll cost you 40 bucks for the privilege (LINK). Seems a little antithetical to the spirit of the holiday, does it not?
So how are you celebrating Festivus? Anybody celebrating in "real life"?

Who is going to pin George's dad to end it all
December 23rd, 2012 at 8:36 AM ^
I've got a lot of problems with you people, and now you're going to hear about it!
December 23rd, 2012 at 8:39 AM ^
I got problems with you people! You over-analyze everything and hate change for the sake of hating change! When someone makes a grammar mistake or posts something that has already been posted you attempt to make them feel inferior! You say "cool story bra" and I don't even know if you mean it!
That is all...Happy Festivus!

You should read the NFL thread below this one.

We are definitely prepared at our house...festivities begin in earnest once everyone is awake. We were actually going to do our own "airing of grievances" at dinner, my wife and I. Even better, we were going to do it unannounced and in front of family just to see if people catch on.
December 23rd, 2012 at 8:49 AM ^
My grievance with you is that you apparently slaughtered someone in the corner. Not cool, man.
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:05 AM ^
You don't have children.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:09 AM ^
Your house looks like a crime scene on Dexter. Did you bludgeon someone with that pole before you set it up?
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:31 AM ^
Nah man. He used a spell.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:56 AM ^
More accurately, my kids have managed to bludgeon the family room (which has since become an activity room where I simply keep the high-definition TV), and they are professionals - whatever they did in this corner took but a moment and the victim felt little. This will be one of the grievances aired later, of course, and with my luck, the response will be, "How many more sleeps until Santa again?"
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:54 AM ^
No worries man, I have a 7 year old. I feel ya.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:42 AM ^
And neither does LSAClass2000....anymore.
December 23rd, 2012 at 8:42 AM ^
I have a grievance with myself. Sometimes I get on here drunk and am a negative asshole.
December 23rd, 2012 at 8:50 AM ^
I find tinsel distracting.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:46 AM ^
This new holiday of yours is scratching me right where I itch.
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:08 AM ^
Santa Clause doesn't visit the funeral home kid.
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:09 AM ^
1. People who say "cool story bro" to their own story
2. Posters who start threads with "I know I'm going to get negged for this"
3. Posters who complain about thread topics inside ofthe threads they are complaining about even though the thread topic is clearly labeled
4. Our dear leader complaining about seemingly everything our AD does (or sometimes doesn't do)
5. People who jump on Section 1 no matter what he says or how accurate his post might be
6. Our current moderation button instead of the old actual up and down voting (yes I know that's suppose to be coming back - that would be a Fesitvus miracle indeed)
Happy Festivus!
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:23 AM ^
And to think I expected to see ~Herm after this.
December 23rd, 2012 at 3:58 PM ^
someone should tell herm festivus is only once a year
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:24 AM ^
I know I'm going to get negged for this...
BUT. Why is everyone talking about "Festivus" in this thread. It's not even a real holiday! The only thing worse than this is a Section 1 thread, trying to support David Brandon (despite the fact that our AD's the worst thing to happen in the world EVER). Whenever I see that thread, I want to neg bomb everyone, but I can't due to this crazy impotent moderation system that doesn't do anything.
/Cool story bro.

Reminiscent of a Dr. Cox rant.
I miss Scrubs
December 23rd, 2012 at 4:23 PM ^
Re #6: What?! I have no context for this, as I have yet to reach 100 points. Are you saying I have nothing to look forward to, except some "moderation button"? What does that button even do?
December 23rd, 2012 at 4:41 PM ^
Seriously, I don't really have the full context for this, as I have yet to reach 100 points. What does the moderation button do? Just recommend the mods up/down vote the post? Regular participants no can no longer "rate" posts? (Not sure why this was marked trolling--may have sounded sarcastic.)
December 23rd, 2012 at 4:59 PM ^
is label a post with an adjective, and a plus or minus score. Enough votes either way will also change something called "karma" which is the value posts start out at.
After 100 points you also have the ability to author thread topics and diaries.
December 23rd, 2012 at 5:16 PM ^
Ah, got it. Thanks.
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:26 AM ^
My Festivus miracle is Mgoblog. A vast array of people gathered in an online community, united in a passion for all things Michigan. We accept and follow the rules enforced by omnipresent moderators. We do not accept poor grammar, bad thread titles, and misused memes. These doctrines which protect us from becoming RCMB (the John L. Smith of the internet) or 11W (the Matt Millen of the internet) are true Festivus miracles.
Now, on with Airing of Grievances! I got some strong complaints about the people who complain about Al Borges. Al Borges is our homeboy and should be honored as the patron of this year's Festivus.
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:26 AM ^
1. Some of you need to learn proper grammar and spelling. This is Michigan, fergodsakes.
2. Many of you need to actually read previous entries on the MGoBoard before posting your own new snowflakes.
3. Several of you need to include a "cool story bro" filter before taking the time to post.
4. Quit messing with our best traditions. This is Mi....Oh, the hell with it.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:08 AM ^
Fergodsakes is spelled incorrectly. Lol
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:40 AM ^
We nitpick each other to death. OT or not OT, board worthy or not board worthy, or the grammar nonsense. We say that our policing of our own board and holding each other accountable are what sets us apart from the RCMB and similar boards. Honestly, I often find the nitpicking to be far more irritating than what I see on other boards. That is all.
Happy Festivus, MGoBrethren!
December 23rd, 2012 at 9:45 AM ^
To air is the frequent questions about Devin Gardner's redshirt status. May this get resolved soon and no more be said about this matter.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:09 AM ^
Would be the fact people have to post like an A Clown in a thread they hate. Move on and ignore it and let the people who care post.
We got it you think you spew golden vomit and everyone wants your cool rebuttals or slams. The reality is your just a jerk.
Grammar police. Welcome to the fast paced world of cell phone posting. Typos will occur. Get over it or get a job as a English teacher. You take a message board way to serious. It's for fun so relax and enjoy or ignore because we aren't impressed with you....BRO!!!!
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:25 AM ^
This reminds me how annoying it is when people post to mgoblog while sitting on the john. Stop contaminating the smartphone you put up to your face, leave it out of the bathroom, and conduct your business properly. After you've thoroughly washed up you'll have time to use proper grammar instead of whining about the "grammar police" with your fudgy hands.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:38 AM ^
I would figure on the John would be the one time you had to take time for grammar.
Again message boards=fun entertainment... Why so serious BRO?
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:31 AM ^
I'm in the john, taking a steamy MaizeHusker.
Signed,
John.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:43 AM ^
It seems that those who argue this point most strenuously do so in posts riddled with the same grammatical mistakes and typos that they repeatedly assure us are perfectly acceptable. Just because you can't write a coherent post does not mean that we should accept the dumbing-down of our online community. Grammar shouldn't really be something at which you have to work.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:18 AM ^
The best part about that website selling Festivus poles is their description of the base: easily collapsable for storing in your crawl space. effing hilarious.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:18 AM ^
Are with Nick Saban...for obvious reasons.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:18 AM ^
my grievances are threads like this. this would have been funny/cool 15 years ago. not so much now.
December 23rd, 2012 at 7:27 PM ^
Is your profile picture. You could use some cardio....and a shirt.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:21 AM ^
I can't think of a holiday more appropriate for this board.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:23 AM ^
covered by my esteemed fellow blog members. In light of that, I give you a gift. Behold, the traditional uniform.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:23 AM ^
I'M GOING TO AIR SO MANY GRIEVANCES.
Also. I'm curious to see how many grievance's BiSB and the rest of the Mods have.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:14 AM ^
I know I'm still the n00b, but honestly my grievances are all outside the MGoCommunity at the moment. I'm sleeping on the couch in my own home, probably need knee surgery and a certain cable news network has been playing on loop for like five days since that's what my grandma watches. Coming here and deleting a thread or two and maybe booking someone a flight to Bolivia is at least an escape from being stuck inside with little privacy and more energy than I can burn.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:18 AM ^
Ouch man, what happened to your knee?
Also, no politics. Just because you don't like E!'s political leanings doesn't mean you can bring it up on the board.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:25 AM ^
but hopefully people can realize that regardless of their views on E! News, five days straight is a little much.
This is going to sound incredibly stupid, but I messed my knee up throwing a foam softball (the kind from batting cages apparently) around my apartment the night before the Nebraska game. After waiting the eight weeks or whatever it's been, it was getting pretty clear that it wouldn't be fixing itself, so I went to the doctor a couple days ago and he thinks I tore my ACL. I go in on the 26th to hear the results of the MRI and schedule anything else that needs to get scheduled, which has the odd effect of making me look forward to Boxing Day more than Christmas.
How's your holiday going a2? Missing all the studying yet?
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:43 AM ^
Holiday's been pretty good so far. I'm getting reacquainted with this foreign concept called "sleep". It's kind of nice. And I can't say I'm missing studying too much, although last semester definitely wasn't the worst final's I've had so far, and my next semester isn't looking too bad either, so that's pretty good. But for now, just seeing family, some high school friends, and hanging out with my girlfriend when I can—so it's been a pretty solid holiday so far.
How'd your semester go? Is megangoblue MGoKicking MGoAsses?
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:54 AM ^
Sleep is definitely underrated; you'll enjoy the newfound friendship with it. What are you studying, anyway? Hopefully something that pays off for the effort.
On my end, I finished up my last full semester of undergrad, which means I'll be taking grad classes while waiting for my OCS package to go through (which is reason number one this knee thing sucks), so that should be interesting at least. MGB is fine. This is her junior year and the path to the top of the pitching rotation is a lot more clear, so I think we're both getting pretty excited for softball season. Somehow their series with EMU got scheduled as an away-home-home, so with M not on the schedule I'm back to hoping for an Ann Arbor regional to see her play in Michigan.
