cosign

A blunt in the morning does wonders for hangovers.
It also helps anxiety, depression, headaches, nausia, bordem and in general improves your quality of life. Why again is it illegal?

Absolutely

32 oz. of water (if you can keep it down) and 2 Motrin or Extra Strength Tylenol before you fall asleep or pass out. Worked pretty well for me.

You never feel "100%" the next day, but after a weekend bender, anything is better than waking up and feeling like you owe money.

Yep, Ibuprofen is much better

Yep, Ibuprofen is much better for you, especially the night of drinking.

I also like to take a one-a-day vitamin before going to sleep. Helps replenish all those nutrients that you've pissed out during the night.

Acetaminophen

The active ingredient in Tylenol, NyQuil, etc. is the leading cause of liver failure in the US. Not alcohol. Just sayin'

Yeah, I know

That's why I listed Motrin first, and I switched to it years ago. Back in the day, It was Tylenol or aspirin as the main choices. Ibuprofen wasn't as common.

Hydration

Drink water until you can't drink more water. Then drink more water.

Caution: it may make you vomit. Again.

Call it research

As a married man who has stared at his wife's ridiculous collection of shoes and wondered if he could piss on them and blame the puppy, I wanted to know the consequences.

I need the "cost" side of the cost/benefit equation, and experimental data in this area is (unsurprisingly) sparse.

Depends on how understanding your chick is.

My girl has the patience of Job, which is a necessity when dating me. We went to bed one night and she, being a very light sleeper, heard splashing noises coming from her closet area. ... A little while later she goes to investigate, and it didn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out what happened.

Denying it was futile.

Her: Scott, wake up, you effin peed in the closet!

Me: [confused look]

Her: You PEED on my SHOES!

Me: Nuh-uhhh.

Her: Well do you think I did it?!

Me: Maybe!

Well, turns out she didn't. ...

The cost side? Depends on how many shoes there are. Because you will be replacing them, even if its a pair of bullshit T.J. Maxx flats she bought 17 years ago and never wears.

You will be replacing those with Manolo Blahniks.

When you

When you get home have some powdered Gatorade on hand. Put two or three gatorade's worth of powder in one gatorade and down it. More bang for your buck. Although you may vomit red, orange, or blue soon after.

Couple things

Eat a meal that includes fruit before you go out. Pineapple works pretty well. Buy some B12 vitamins and take one before you go out. Drink. Go home, take another B12 vitamin and drink a lot of powerade/gatorade/water before you pass out. Pass out. Wake up and feel much better than you would have if you had not followed these steps. Yes, it's a semi-complicated process but if you want to be productive the next day it's necessary.

Hangover is due to lack of hydration

Down a 32oz. Powerade and take 2 Excedrin Migraine, should at least help, I don't think anything is 100%.

Um...yeah, that and the fact

Um...yeah, that and the fact that alcohol is a toxin (more specifically, it has several toxins and its metabolism creates more toxins).

http://www.drinkfocus.com/articles/hangovers/hangover-causes.php

Hydration definitely helps, but dehydration is by no means the only cause of hangover.

On a side note, I finally quit smoking in the last month (after about 13 years of going through a pack-a-day), and my hangovers feel much less severe.

Take a multivitamin with lots

Take a multivitamin with lots of water before bed. If you take enough water with it, you'll feel great the next day.

My gf learned the science behind it in one of her bio classes at Mich (so it's gotta be true, right?).

That makes sense considering

That makes sense considering that much of a hangover is you pissing out your nutrients the night before. I suppose if you replaced them right before bed that would help.

I don't drink anywhere near

I don't drink anywhere near like I did in college, but I know of more then a few people who have attempted the "drink a shitload before bed" approach. More times then I feel comfortable with, people ended up wetting the bed due to their blacked out state and inability to get up and empty the tanks. This is very much a fear of mine.

It DEFINITELY takes the edge off.

P.S. They re-branded it Alka-Seltzer Wake Up Call.

I talked to a Navy Corpsman

I talked to a Navy Corpsman once who said that when they were in training, they would go out and get drunk all the time, then wake up and put in an I-V and take some B-12. Apparently the hangover just disappears, though I'd imagine you don't have regular access to an I-V.

Back in my U of M days (~10

Back in my U of M days (~10 yrs ago) it was a greasy meal (usually Big Market Gyro, meaty hippie hash from Fleetwood, or pastor taco salad from Sabor Latino), bowl, and movies on the couch all afternoon. We'd still be hurting all day, but this regimen made the pain more tolerable.

Active Prevention

Active prevention before you start drinking is as if not more valuable than what you do when you are done drinking. At least from my experience that seems to be the case. Have a full stomach when you go out.

OK, finally get to use some

OK, finally get to use some of the skills I learned in school.
Night before, put a multivitamin and a couple ibuprofen in your pocket (for people like me who never actually make it back home!) down these with tons of water before you go to sleep. Sleep for as long as you can possibly handle, and then a little bit more.

After you get up take another round of vitamin and ibuprofen with (again ) tons of water. Immediately proceed to a greasy breakfast joint, I prefer a local greasy-spoon, but a chain like Waffle House will suffice. It is important to consume enough greasy food to a) have a "purging"* effect of the impurities from the night before within 30 min after you leave and b)so that after the meal you can no longer stay awake and are forced to take a 2-3 hr nap.

You will awake feeling pretty well despite the night before and will now to ready to take a shower and do it all over again! This method is quite simple and carried me through college.

* note: purging needs to be of the squatting variety, not the kneeling, if this occurs process must be repeated.

While I personally don't partake in such things I have heard that a lil morning smoke can cure many a hangover. Greasy food helps me tho or something to get adrenaline going like running, playing a sport, or throwing up

3 liters of water and 10-12 mins in a Suana. Then rinse off with cool water. Then go back in the sauna for another 10 mins and shower with cold water.

Post Hangover

Step 1: stay in bed or move to a horizontal position on the couch

Step 2: hit a bowl or two

Step 3: down gatorade, water, or pickle juice (tons of sodium and electrolytes to hold in water)

Step 4: watch uninterupted DVR'd programming (commercials make me angry when I'm hungover) while downing a pint of ice cream to replace lost sugars, and order mexican food because I'm too lazy to move

Step 5: repeat as necessary

I attempt to never schedule important events after days I know will induce a hangover (like this weekend).

Wiki

I agree with many of the sentiments above, namely that dehydration, deficiency of B-vitamins, etc. are the cause of the hangover, along with alcohol affecting REM sleep- but I'm also of the belief that a hangover is also caused by alcohol withdrawal. Hence, perhaps in addition to everything above, a bloody mary might not be a bad idea.

For other ideas, check out the intranets:

I wish I could ...

send you a thrashing of Ohio State, an old school beat down of Sparty, and an eviceration of Notre Dame in Brian Kelly's debut in the rivalry. I don't know if it would take your hangover away, but it would be a decent tonic for our general Michigan football malaise.

To avoid one in the first place, at least 3 bottles of water and

at least 3 ibuprofen before you crash. If nausea and headache persist in the morning anyway. A chocolate frosty from Wendy's will soothe the sour stomach. If that's not available a chocolate shake from MC Ds will help. For the headache, lots of advil and sacking out on the coach with a Michigan football videos.

Issue with Hair of the Dog

I think I saw a hangover cures episode on Food Network or something.

Hair of the dog works temporarily because technically a hangover is your body going through withdrawal from some of the chemicals in alcohol, along with your body trying to process / flush them out.

So drinking again essentially delays withdrawal.

My perspective is that if you have time, I think going the hair of the dog route can spread things out and decrease the intensity of the hangover a bit.

Tylenol + Alcohol = Bad

Also, caffeine + Tylenol = bad

All of the above chemicals are metabolized in the liver. When used in combination, they can lead to acute liver damage. As has been mentioned, drink water both before going to bed and after getting up, since the hangover is partially dehydration. Make sure to eat something that is easily metabolized first, then go on to a larger meal once you can get food down.

bacon, egg & cheese on a roll.
Small coffee.
coconut water (The large liter sizes do the trick for me).

Water until you stop puking, then water and a gatorade and some asprin.

Then once you feel up to eating, eat and down some caffine, just the amount you normally have with a meal.

Keep up with the water until you are peeing clear and have to go every fifteen minutes. That is as good as you are going to feel until the next day.

If you buy a small bottle of V8 and chug the thing, you'll feel better in 10 minutes. But pretty much anything with a significant dose of tomato juice will do the trick--be it a plate of spaghetti, a bloody mary, one of those nasty concoctions with Worcestershire sauce, whatever.

Chicken Fried Rice from that chinese place in the union (if it's still there). That was sure fire for me. It pretty good by itself, but if you combine it with some bud, you're good as gold.

Also, as bad as this sounds - Milk. Very good both for replacing electrolytes and rehydrating.
