OT: Hail! To American Samoa?
My sister, a recent M grad, is currently working in American Samoa for WorldTeach, which is similar to Teach for America except that it takes place all over the world. Somewhat surpisingly, Samoa puts a lot of guys in the NFL for such a small country, and Samoans are pretty fond of football. One of the classes that my sister is teaching is grades 3 and 4 combined, and they were stunned when they found out their teacher went to the same school as Tom Brady. Well, the class was assigned to create a song about Manu'a (their Island) and Fitiuta (their village). Here's what they came up with (lyrics below):
Hail! to Manu'a People
Hail! to Fitiuta Students
Hail! Hail! Our school will never rest.
Hail !to Manu'a People
Hail to Fitiuta Students
Hail! Hail! Level 3 and 4 is the best.

Dave Brandon should bring them to a home game.

He can follow Hollis' lead by trying to convince alumni and fans that playing in Samoa will save the athletic department lots of money by eliminating game day expenses.

Possibly the start of a Samoa connection? Hopefully it'd be as fruitful as the Pahokee connection!

that all 4 are great men that are /will represent the university VERY positively once they are through with their time here. they chose to come here and once they did they all bought in to the program and the university. they will all leave as michigan men. that is much more important than a few football games.
im not going to bite on defending their on field stuff as that speaks for itself. but id be more than happy to see more stand up men with the integrity, heart, honor and determination that the boys from pahokee have shown.

I am very sorry that somebody crapped in your corn flakes this morning, but I'm even more concerned that you ate them anyhow.

way to use 4 players to represent the Samoan people as whole. Overall, there are quite a few Samoan players in the NFL. I believe that they have the highest % of NFL players per capita which is significantly higher than any of the state.

Not only is American Samoa a hotbed of football players, but the independent country of Samoa (formerly a New Zealand colony) is a hotbed of rugby players. On a per-capita basis, that island chain is incredible at producing talented athletes.

Are awesome people. A friend of our family is of Samoan descent and he's a gentle giant. One of the nicest guys you will ever meet, but he's big enough to blot out the sun. Both of his children inhereted his stature (his wife is only about 5' tall). I'll make sure they short-list U-M in the 2025 and 2027 recruiting classes.

That was very cool! An effective use of the song indeed!
Thanks for sharing that - brought a smile to a face that needs one right now.

I am going to say Junior Seau, what a loss. Troy Polamalu is pretty damn good. Niether are from Samoa but I'm sure would tell you how proud they are of being Samoan.
