OT: Griffins win Calder Cup
User Charlestown Chiefs, ask and ye shall receive. The Grand Rapids Griffins won the Calder Cup tonight, beating Syracuse 5-2.
Tomas Tatar, who will more than likely be a Red Wing next year, tallied 2 goals.
Gustav Nyquist added 2 assists and Joakim Andersson had an assist of his own. Nice finish to the season for those guys after getting knocked out with the wings.
On topic, UM's own Luke Glendening had an assist in the win.
LUUUUKE!
God I can't wait until he is a Wing. Need some Maize and Blue there.
Not to shoot you down or anything, but I really don't see him making the Wings' roster. He's a nice player and everything, but the Wings have a huge amount of NHL fwd prospects ahead of Glendening. I hope he proves me wrong!
Mike Babcock has made comments that he is very high on Glendening. Don't write him off.
he's not the kind of kid you bet against...
Mike Babcock disagrees with you: http://www.mlive.com/griffins/index.ssf/2013/06/detroit_red_wings_coach…
this is not to be interpreted as any type of evaluation on Glendening. I'll leave that to the guys who specialize in scouting/evaluation, and that's not the part of hockey I like to post on.
Now that this is out of the way, Charlestown Chiefs, you are hereby awarded enough points to start a thread based on a good posting history and two good reccomendations for OP's. Have fun, don't spend them all in one place (they expire in one year).
So now you're only 110.34 times as important as me. Man I'm moving up in the world. Thanks for the bump.
M-Wolverine, someone with 100 points, you, someone who got bumped to 1,000,000 for a day, we all get pretty much equal mercy for a terrible post, or props for a good one.
Good for Charlestown Chiefs and M-Wolverine. For everyone else?
I never would have dreamed of Shawn Hunwick making an NHL roster-
Glendening, although he wasn't some high-profile guy in college, is an extremly hard worker/ grinder... The Wings have 0 prospects that fit the mold of a checking forward ala Drew Miller / Patrick Eaves... That's where Glendening would fit into a team; 4th line / checking line guy... and I think in a couple of years when we have exhausted all the grit out of Miller, that's where Glendening will get his opportunity. Until then, keep doing work in the AHL!
I really hope Glendening makes it and based on his work rate I won't bet against it, But..
The wings have multiple higher rates prospects that are earmarked for lines 3 and 4. Just to name a few, Andersson is a #3 center. Callahan and Ferraro are also going to be those type of 2 way back of the lineup guys. Nice issue to have for the wings.
Go Griffs!!!
Yes. Griffins to Red Wings = Mud Hens to Tigers.
Tatar will undoubtedly be a full-time Red Wing next year, as he is out of AHL options (meaning he would have to go through waivers to play in the AHL any further.) He's more than ready for it
Glad they finished it off, though! This is a good franchise. Nice to see some success, especially with many of the key pieces likely moving up next year.
Fun team to watch. So glad the Calder Cup was free for viewing online.
Glendening finished the playoffs with a 6-10-16 line, leading all rookies in postseason scoring.
Yea buddy! Home town pride.
I remember when the Griffs first started playing and now this. Pretty cool.
For the first 3000 people in the door today to welcome the calder champs back to G Rap!!!
Congrats Griffins!!!
