" Every single one of you, before you get off the pile, affect the head … continue to touch and affect the head.” Was he coaching football players or porn stars?

...for in that vein:

"“We need to [expletive] put a lick on him, move him to decide. He needs to decide.”"

I think he's paraphrasing some of the lyrics from Robert Palmer's "Some Like It Hot" myself...

There's also this quote:

"“During my time with the team, numerous sources told me that Williams used to go around bragging that he had a ‘[expletive] you’ clause in his contract – that he could basically do whatever he wanted in terms of running the defense, with complete autonomy,”"

Wagering a guess at what the expletive is, then the references to licking and "affecting the head", it doesn't shock me that the Saints' executive leadership was resistant to "peeping" in the Saints' locker room.

Narduzzi outright admitted it in a press conference (link):

That's what we tried to do, 60 minutes of unnecessary roughness

Hollis initially said (link):

This is an isolated incident [that happened repeatedly during the course of the game] and Coach D and his staff will continue to emphasize the importance of maintaining one's composure during the heat of the moment [as well as in press conferences]. As an AD, I take [saying flowery things about] sportsmanship seriously, but it's equally important for me to evaluate this game and the particular play [or, uh, plays] in its totality [as soon as I get off of The Twitter]

and finally after a week and pressure from the B1G Hollis got around to saying (link):

I have taken this opportunity to express to Pat the importance of collecting his thoughts after an emotional game to ensure that he puts his best foot forward with the media and public in the future. He’s an outstanding coach and motivator [who publicly admitted he coached his kids to play with "unnecessary roughness"] and a rising star in his profession [because clearly the message is getting through, and he has people like me enabling him].

Kudos to the NFL for setting a good precedent where the B1G and god forbid E.L. might have.

At least his career is a punchline at this point. Hopefully he saved some money; I don't think he'll be cashing a big paycheck anytime soon.

It's also kind of sad how warped sports become in some people's heads. I realize this was (hopefully) how he made a living, but how warped does your sense of reality have to be to make the leap from "do not let that receiver score/get a first down" to "ensure it by inflicting a potentially career/life ending second concussion"? The two sports I love (football and hockey) are probably the two most violent team sports around and I have no problem with Kronwalling someone, or with MM brutally hitting some RB, but at some point it's no longer about the game. I would say that Williams doesn't "get" football, and probably needs to be permanently banned from the NFL, with the NCAA hopefully being able to follow suit.

...and was a terrible head coach, he sure was given a lot of freedom to run these bounty programs.  Buddy Ryan may have been a touch SOB but at least his Bears defense won a SB.

He was a terrible head coach and seemed to be a high risk, high reward DC.  And even with the Saints they gave up tons of yards.

Oh and with the bounty, there were two "bounty" games: Arizona (took out Warner) and Minnesota (Favre).  I find it funny they didn't try that in the SB with Manning.

The Rams will probably wait until the holiday weekend is over, then fire him on Monday or Tuesday. The 'affect the head' stuff is just too much. I used to think this whole bounty thing was blown out of proportion, but not after this

The orst part is when he talks about targeting specific body parts.  Telling your guys to take a guy out is one thing, telling them to take out his ACL is entirely different.  Thats about injuring a guy and possibly endangering his livelyhood.  No one can support that.   He is going to have absloutely no support after this, not that he did before

Im a steelers fan so I love tough and physical defense. This however is just wrong and should be taken care of legally. I honestly think jail time would be appropriate.

I'd honestly be shocked if it wasn't a federal crime to conspire to commit assault/battery across state lines, which he's obviously doing. Not to mention he admitted everything; it should be a US Attorney's dream case if those laws are on the books. High reward, low risk, near certain conviction would sound pretty good to me.

Umm.....yeah.....he will never coach again at the NFL level. Not as a DC or fucking kicking coach. Heck, waterboy is out of the question. I highly doubt he could get a college job after this. No more "its all overblown" excuses. They ALL heard it. That entire team heard it because if the defense heard it the offense at least heard OF it. That makes them all pieces of shit the second there was talk of taking out ACLs and nobody spoke up. I think the NFL/college has become pussified but this is too far. Gregg is DONE. Gone. Forever.

but fuck that guy. He's done anyways because headshots are the exact opposite of what the league is pushing now, but intent to injure borders on criminal. If there was premedidtated intent there's not much difference between doing it on the field or off. Fuck him. Him, and the other coaches, and that whole fucking team of chicken shit liars. Someone on that team needs to man up.

This is a bit like sausage and laws I suppose.  Like lawmaking, most of the shadiness isn't really necessary.  Gregg Williams should be done.  Nixonesque isn't is? And like Nixon he should not be able to survive the fallout, at least lets hope so.  Anyone defending this has lost perspective.

Let the lawsuits begin.  Williams might as well put all of his money offshore and head for Costa Rica, or some other expart hub, because I can't see him working again, and I can't see him having much of his money by the time he is finished being sued.

As disturbing as this is I wouldn't doubt it happens on most NFL teams. Coaches are crazy. I am surprised the players were ok with hearing it like this. There is a code in the NFL between players and respect is about playing the game the right way. Players will go for knees and legs if the player or team is viewed as dirty. It happens (hell it happened to Delmas), but not for "respect." It happens to send a message that the game is played a certain way and if you are dirty or your team is dirty you are going to have some injuries.
