Big news here: Beyonce pulled the ace out of her sleeve and covered an Alanis song. The best thing she could have done. Isn't that ironic?
i refuse to even consider this a possibility
finally figured this out, the ironic thing about the song "isn't it ironic" is that the song isn't ironic.
I still hold that this was Ms. Morissette's plan the entire time. Create an song called "Ironic" with lyrics pertaining to situations that aren't ironic at all.
The song itself is ironic. It's almost genius (were the song genius, would that also be ironic?).
I'm sorry, but Taylor Swift did not deserve album of the year. I was so furious (as was my loud friend) that my RA had to come shut us up
I had no idea that anyone cared enough about the Grammy's anymore to really get upset either way.
Don't tell me you wanted DMB to win?
Her album was the best selling release of 2009. I have to admit her songs are damn catchy.
Lady GaGa is one weird-ass chick, but can you tell me how an album with four #1 hits on it doesn't win album of the year? Ridiculous.
OK, I listen to a very broad array of music (last weekend I bought 3 CD's: Zach Brown Band, Vampire Weekend and Weezer, for example). I've owned both Taylor Swift CD's for a while, and "Fearless" is one of my favorite albums in a long time, say what you will. Take away her musical talents, she is a fantastic songwriter and deserved that award (even though I'm watching on the west coast and we didn't get there yet, spoiler).
FWIW, I like the Weezer CD the best so far.
I also got the Zac Brown Band album last year. I also own both Taylor Swift albums. I got them at gifts, but ended getting a copy for myself because it was a good album. Also Lady Antebellum's debut album was really good, I haven't listened to their new album yet.
I don't get why Zac Brown Band was nominated for best new artist, when their album came out in 2008. When is the cut-off to receive a nomination?
ZBB's album came out late in 2008. All their hits were from 2009 and they had a bunch of them. FWIW that ZBB album is pretty incredible.
I actually got to see them live while at a festival near Lancaster, PA last summer (I was visiting a friend) and they are a lot of fun to watch. Great band, hope they keep doing well.
Taylor Swift's album came out in 2008 too, FWIW.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
While I think that Taylor is a great song writer, the fact that she is not a good singer live bothers me more than anything else. I honestly believe that Beyonce or Lady Gaga deserved that award in terms of catchiness, talent and ability, and live performances.
That said, music is incredibly subjective, so there's no point in really arguing about his, so I'm sorry if I come off as judgmental and authoritative.
I was also surprised when I found out that she wrote her own songs. It seems rare for pop stars to write their own songs nowadays.
Nothing against Beyonce, but didn't she rip off "If I was a Boy" from another artist? And then she decided to entertain the extremist next dictator of Libya? Fun times.
doing a private concert for anyone in the Gaddafi's family when the father is a known sponsor of terroism is ridiculous.
Did she really need another $2mil that bad when her and Jaz Z were the highest paid couple ($120mil) in entertainment last year?
Weezer is one of my favorite bands of all time. I have to say I was worried once Rivers actually got married and had a kid, because the foundation of their older stuff was not getting the girl, but the new stuff is awesome. I've seen them live twice (once with the Foo Fighters and the other with Angels & Airwaves--both main floor, yesss!)
Weezer shows turn into giant sing alongs and are therefore awesome.
Very cool MGoJen, Weezer is no doubt my fave as well. They are the only band whose CDs I need to purchase the hard copy. I've also seen them twice, once with Angels and Airwaves as well (who sucked) in LA and once with The Strokes and Dashboard Confessional in Cuyahoga Falls, OH (very cool venue).
I just want Weezer to play the Hollywood Bowl, although it might be impossible for me to get a ticket.
Some good shows coming up at HB come April and May. I've made the unfortunate decision trying to drive through after a concert got out. I think it was the wine and cheese crowd that watches the symphony shows there.
I almost went to see them with Blink 182 I think, at this outdoor venue just outside of Cleveland this past summer. The Make Believe tour show with the Foo Fighters was at Joe Louis and the show with A&A (they sucked!) was at the Palace of Auburn Hills. For the Palace show we managed to push our way to the verrrry front so I was against the barricade. I thought I was going to break a couple ribs but it was one of the coolest experiences of my life and totally worth it.
Oh, and Scott threw his pick to the crowd during The Sweater Song and I caught it! It was awesome.
Is your dog a boxer?
You're in luck. I have no idea how big of a role she will have, but she is going to be in Valentines Day.
I love how people still believe the grammy's are credible.
Censoring out a good chunk of the Weezy/Eminem/Drake performance was pretty shitty. Why even have them perform if you're going to censor out 10-15 second chunks at a time?
the parts that they edited out weren't even curse words. couldn't figure out why they did that
And parts like "Pistol on my side you don't wanna hear that thing talk," didn't get edited. I don't think it should have, but it's much worse than the other parts that were censored.
That irritated me too. The censorship was a little overkill.
Carrie Underwood is hot that is what I took from the Grammy's
Lady Gaga gives me nightmares.
Imagine getting stuck with the seat right behind her... wtf was she wearing?
her unique take on the Statue Of Liberty
Armani. It is the outfit of the future
She was dressed up as Superman's secret crystal lair.
I think she had the championship trophy from GUTS on her head.
That's an awesome call. I can't imagine she had an easy time reaching the top of the Agro Crag in that dress, though.
Jesus you ain't ever lied! Not to mention the fact that poker face tune haunts me in my sleep.
3 ambiens taken with a large amount of Jack Daniels will help you get through the night. I cannot guarantee that you will wake up though........
The only entertaining thing I've ever witnessed from the Grammy's is that...
"Wu-Tang is for the Children!!!"
Wu Tang Clan ain't nothing to f*&k wit!
Michigans needs to recruit kids from Shaolin son.
"If what you say is true the shaolin and the wu tang could be dangerous, [for michigan]"
Unfortunately the best player in Shaolin is headed to gainesville and won't stop gator chomping.
We do already have John Ferrara reppin' the Shaolin.
For those interested, here's what he's referring to
A true visionary gone WAY too soon!
taylor swift is great. gotta love a sexy blonde girl that can play the guitar
I like Taylor Swift, but she sounded pretty terrible. Go Beyonce
..has benefitted greatly from pitch correction software. As long as you're not bending notes on purpose, like a more blues-based artist would (think Reba if you are talking female Country/Pop crossover), you can sing almost a quarter-tone off, run it through correction, and it sounds clean, mean, and pristine.
Since the award was for a finished product and not live performances, though, he inability to stay accurate live shouldn't really count against her. Besides, when performing live, the old adage that "shit happens" is often quite relevant.
I misread the title as "the grannys".
Very disappointed now.
She looked hot last night!
is probably still trying to get the stains off his couch.
First of all: If you take the Grammies seriously or believe they are awarded based on musical merit, you are an idiot with terrible taste.
To Maximinius: Agreed. The only reason I even witnessed the train wreck that was the Grammies was because I had the TV on MUTE and saw a masked guy on stage. I thought... "who's ripping off DOOM?"
I can't tell you how long my mouth hung open after I found out that the "I gotta feeling" song that's been forced down my ears dozens of times was the Black Eyed Peas. I didn't even like them when they claimed to be hip hop but this is mind blowing. Really. You can have your Grammies, but don't expect any folks like us to take you seriously after we find out you own Taylor Swift albums.
+ 1000 for you for mentioning MF Doom good sir!
Anyone here who actually watched the Grammy's should have their MGoFanCard revoked. I cain't do it.
