OT - Gift Season

Submitted by JeepinBen on

Since football season is over, if the Mods have decided that nominal "OT" season is OK, I propose discussing something that's not Hoke and Harbaugh.

What does everyone want to receive as a gift for the holidays? I'm very bad at suggesting gifts for myself and wouldn't mind some crowdsourced ideas as well as hearing what the MGoCommunity is expecting/hoping to receive in their stocking/under their Menorah/next to the Festivus Pole/[whatever your holiday tradition is].

Is an XBox 1 worth it? Does it need the new Kinect?

Will this thread get 70 replies that are "All I want for [my holiday of observance] is Harbaugh"???

I'd still go with the X3 (I have no dog in this fight). It isn't so much that it's a luxury experience (but it is) to drive it, it's the way you feel every little thing in the road (in a good way) through the seat, steering wheel, and gas pedal. The driver feedback is just amazing in every BMW I've driven, you truly feel the road. Once you experience that, it's really hard to go back from it. I'll never drive a FWD based vehicle again.

again, i work for an auto supplier and we supply parts to all of them. Directly I actually have parts in the X3.

That said, be very careful about pricing BMWs, they are notorious for having options lists that charge for everything and can really drive up the price of the car. It's not uncommon to have a $50k base price and $20K in options on a BMW. That said, it's a damn nice vehicle. There's lots of good choice in that segment. Take some test drives and enjoy them all

I want garlic plants. weird, I know. but they're decent looking and i like how they smell. and the most important reason is that they repel rattlesnakes. I had to kill a friggin rattlesnake this summer because it was close to my house. That was an experience I never want to have again. secondly, regarding the xbox. I just made the decision to get the xbox one for my kids. we aren't super big gamers, and i was leaning toward the cheaper 360, but from what I've read, the graphics and voice recognition from that kinect are quite the shit. so I got the Assasins Creed/kinect bundle for 329 at Best Buy's Cyber Monday deal. I'm literally going to pick it up right now. Then, the kids are getting there damn iPhones.... #stopyourbitchinkids

World peace might be too much to ask for. Board peace would definitely be too much to ask for. But I want my family to have more peace and harmony. I want my kids to be happy, at peace, and respectful (13 year old twins are a handful.) I also am really looking forward to having my 21 year old daughter and her husband home for Christmas from the Navy. The older I get, the less I need or even want.

for the kids except when they are at a practice or game where one of us isn't present.   then we have a little trac phone for them for communication with the home base.  i recommend you continue on your current course of action.

and practice is the real reason. secondarily, they're friends communicate quite a bit that way (in the same way i used to on the phone) and they are getting left out of a few things as a result. I'm recognizing that this is their world as tweens and is just different than what I'm used to. they will not keep it in their rooms at night and they'll be limited.

They still don't have their own phones. We have a cell phone that we give to them when they have an outing or game or event where they need to call us. It isn't a "cool" phone, and it has very minimal minutes on it. They do more of the social connections with friends on their iPods. As it turns out, we're only a block or so away from the middle school, so they can walk home in less than 5 minutes, and aren't too dependent on us to be their chauffer. Oh, and they are close to the last kids in school not to have their own phone. We'll probably break down and get them one before High School starts in the Fall.

Every kid has one--and we moved this year, from a community where that was not the case. But they are in situations where it would be nice to be able to contact them, after school and at practice. So I have made up my mind to get them one. I did tell them I would get them a "flip phone"... They didn't even know what that was!

faith and family to enjoy with that.  as for 'stuff', i'd have to think about that.   maybe some more cows, including at least one more dairy cow.  i can almost rationalize getting another tractor, but i won't ask santa for it.  oh yeah, and a replacement for our outdoor weather 'station'.   very helpful on the farm and ours died a month ago.

Xbox 1 is cheaper right now, and I have one and I'm not noticing a huge difference between it and the PS4's I've played.  Honestly, most of the AAA titles come out on both platforms, so this isn't a Nintendo/Sega lock-in situation.

Also, Harbaugh.

We do a mass donation to the local radio station "christmas wish" at my office.  I have to buy something for a 12-14 year old boy for $50.  My kids are 34 & 31 and I have no idea what kids in this age group want.  Suggestions?

electronic Battleship or some type of electronic game?  There's usually one that's in.  "mind flex" was in a couple of years ago.  Nerf guns are great....other than that, they are very hard to buy for.  Your office screwed you.
