OT: Game 78 - Wings @ Habs

Submitted by goblueram on

The Wings head up to Montreal to take on the Atlantic division's 2nd place team, les Canadiens.  Obviously every point is crucial to the Red Wings as they are fighting to extend their current professional sports leading 22 year playoff streak.  Detroit currently is 6th in the conference in points, but the new division alignments and playoff format change things around a bit.  Realistically, the Wings are shooting for the top wildcard spot, which they currently hold (up 3 pts on Columbus).

Detroit is riding a 4 game winning streak thanks to the hot hands of Gustav Nyquist.  In other news, former Michigan Wolverine Luke Glendening just signed a nice 3 year deal.  He's proving to be a great grind line type player, but it would be great to see him net his first goal before the playoffs.

Only 5 games left (including tonight).  If there's anyone else out there who can't bring themselves to watch the Final Four, flip to FS-D or NHL Network for some hockey.

Let's Go Red Wings!

They win two more games, I have to think that they have a spot clinched. I dislike how they have to basically playoff hockey before the playoffs the last few years. While it is great for being in stride in the first round, the second round is a different story. The young talent has really shown since the Olympic break and I have to think that in the next two years we may have the youngest roster in the league

Agreed. I think they have finally realized that they can't just be all older skilled guys. In order to win the cup now you have to young physical guys who can skate. They have some nice pieces to grow around. I'm hoping that Mantha can crack the lineup next year. Need a few more guys for the back end on D but Babcock deserves coach of the year with what he has done under this years circumstances

Just can't get a good look. Spending a lot of time with the puck and then they manage to get a wing flying down the ice behind our last man on that side with a rebound. Could use a power play here this period.

took a few of the kids down to the joe on a very last minute road trip.  i was very impressed with the habs, particularly their #'s 14, 20 (vanek?) and their hefty defenseman, # 76.   wings will have their work cut out for them

let's go red wings!
