OT: The future of uniforms is a dark dark place
This may be a little too off topic for this time of year but it has been a slow night with another terrible Tigers game.
A Florida high school team has shown that there is no line when it comes to uniforms. Throughout the last 10 years or so, lead by Oregon, teams are getting crazier with they uniforms. And now this. Courtesy of Flo Rida.
Hopefully this stops.

I think putting "Chief's" face across the crotch and splitting his head in two is the cherry on this uniform sundae.
And somewhere in Oregon a uniform designer is going "SHIT....why didn't I think of that".

Are the numbers made of tiles? This looks like it was put together for six bucks at the Scrap Box.

This really is an embarassment to the game of football, and I'm not kidding.

Sweet baby Jesus those are offensive to the senses and sensibilities.

I actually like the IDEA of the headdress helmet. But in practice it looks terrible. Was that Michigan shoutout saying our helmets are ugly or that they are trying to copy it and failing?
October 26th, 2012 at 1:41 AM ^
I wouldn't say the helmet looks great, but I think it's at the very least an interesting idea. The rest of the jersey is just ridiculous.
October 26th, 2012 at 9:06 AM ^
I try not to be a prig about stuff like this, but I find it a little offensive. An eagle-feather headdress has a lot of symbolism. It's one thing to portray a warrior wearing it; I'm okay with that (although let it be said that wearing that portrait splashed across the crotch of your football pants is an interesting choice). Donning the headdress yourself (or painting the helmet so it looks like you are) is another matter.
This may sound ridiculous to the average person, I don't know.

And isn't it actually a ripoff of the great Charles Sellars helmet concept for the Illini?
To wit:
Those high school pants, etc., in the OP are horrible. The perfect example of too much of a good thing. If they aren't already illegal, they should be.
But the Charles Sellars concept for Illinois is way better than anything the Illini have ever come up with on their own. The nice thing about the Sellars concept is that it is merely a takeoff on what the Illini already utilize as an alternative logo:
So it isn't as though the Illini would be stretching themselves to come up with some wild abuse of Native American imagery just for uniform decoration. Then of course there is Chief Illiniwek...
October 26th, 2012 at 12:59 PM ^
No, to me there really is a difference between the logo, which shows an honored chief or warrior wearing the headdress (fictionalized, anonymous, or whatever, but clearly a native american who has presumably earned the right); and painting your helmet to look like every player on the team is wearing one.
October 26th, 2012 at 1:29 PM ^
Is that Nathan Scheelhaase gets to wear the Chief's helmet, but that the rest of the team has to wear the old Washington Redskins helmets from the early sixties?

That's dreadful. Absolutely tasteless.
October 25th, 2012 at 11:59 PM ^
Pretty sure these are illegal, so we'll never have to worry about seeing them. From the 2012 NFHS Rules and Interpretations book:
RULE 1-5-3:
ART. 3 . . . Illegal Equipment. No player shall participate while wearing illegal equipment. This applies to any equipment, which in the opinion of the umpire is dangerous, confusing or inappropriate. Illegal equipment shall always include but is not limited to:
a. The following items related to the Game Uniform:
1. Jerseys and pants that have:
(a) A visible logo/trademark or reference exceeding 2¼ square inches and exceeding 2¼ inches in any dimension.
I'd make them illegal for being inappropriate to all things good in this world, but the reference size is probably what they'd really be deemed illegal for.

the truly darkest day for everyone other than dave brandon will be when uniforms start to contain company logos. dave's definitely looking forward to it though. he was worried that he'd run out of places to put advertisements.
"$800,000 for a hungry howie logo on the shoulder?? easiest money i ever made"
October 26th, 2012 at 12:07 AM ^
Don't be an idiot; Dave Brandon is too loyal to his brand to do that...Domino's that is.
October 26th, 2012 at 1:18 PM ^
I'm not sure why this comment was made grey. Brandon has already showed his true colors by placing a logo on the hockey jerseys, of the esteemed and respected brand of "Arby's" no less. Michigan can now wear the favorite brand of overweight truckers and depressed housewives everywhere. Some of you will say, "But the football team is different, it could never happen. Oh? What about the Big Ten logos now adorned on every damned corner of the stadium. Or that massive Vegas-style highway billboard located just outside of the stadium?
The times are changing and you're all fools if you are keeping your heads in the ground like a bunch of sissy ostriches saying, "It won't happen to us! Dave Brandon wouldn't do it! We would protest THEN!" By THEN it will be too late and you'll have sat by complacently watching the fall of this great program to the dregs of college football.

I thought this thread was going to be about Michigan uniforms, or at least college uniforms going forward. I don't think I would call this "the future of uniforms" because it's a high school team, and it involves Flo Rida.

Say what you will but 15 years ago people would have shit the bed if they saw anything Oregon, ASU, Boise, ND, ect..
Every year things get a little crazier. Be prepared.

That MSU helmet was obviously candy coated, you know, to cover up their soft chewy insides. No need to make up words like "chromalized" to explain that shit.

Uh... I feel like I have something to say about this, but every time I start typing, I look back at the photo and realize I'm not quite hitting the nail on the head. This is... it's just... Andy Worhol and the guys at Nike with a stache of shrooms? No, that's not quite it... WTF are these things?!?

Nothing bettern than an MGoBlog uniformz freakout. I can't believe they don't still wear leather helmets! ARGH, get off my lawn!
October 26th, 2012 at 12:29 AM ^
I don't think anyone here is feeling that way. These things are just horrible. And when just about every traditional thing has been done and every color has been used, this is what happens.

besides the unis looking awful is the money spent on them when you have schools that can't even afford to buy new unis to begin with, SMH

there is not. Simplicity and practicality are long gone, MOAR-BIGGER-AWESOMER-NOW!!! have taken their place. The trend is now, if you can do it, DO IT, regardless of whether what is being done is an improvement over anything. The Ameican model is next thing = great thing, in all facets of life, and there need be no further discussion.

I am currently living in Alabama, and when I complained about Michigan using alternative uni's, they just laughed and said, "We're Alabama, we don't need to do that gimmicky shit." That is the attitude Michigan used to have with regards to our uni's, and it's an attitude our program needs to get back (I was about to say Mcihigan as a whole, but it seems as though most fans feel this way as well, at least on this blog).
