OT: FSU Recruiting, uh, Help

Submitted by superstringer on

So, FSU is trying to recruit the nation's #1 basketball prospect, I guess, and some FSU students, uh, tried to, uh, persuade him:

My first reaction:  Where the frak was THAT kind of attention on me in Ann Arbor, when in 1984 I told UM I was thinking about going to engineering school there?

My next reaction:  Egads, is this even allowed under NCAA rules?  Why doesn't it happen (openly) more often?

I remember that diary well, but I have trouble remembering who writes something, unless they have a really distinctive style (Herm, THE_KNOWLEDGE, LSAClassof2000, Professor X, BiSB, etc), a really distinctive avatar (Heiko, yourself, WolvinLA2, Andrew Jackson Jihad, david from wyoming, America), a really distinctive signature (Lionsfan, WolverineDevotee), or is an exceptionally crappy poster (BILG, MrMario86).

The cheerleader one could potentially get them in trouble, in that given the cheerleaders are in school issue uniform and such that could be seen as an action backed by the school.  Regarding the first picture, you can't control what adults not associated with the athletic department do on their own time, as much as the NCAA wishes they could.

It happens here too, if some guy is a five star recruit and goes out at night while visting, he won't have an issue hooking up.  We don't stick them in their bed like some schools do, but if you cruise into some Greek party, odds are you'll find company.

State chicks are so hot.  They don't even have to be actually hot to be hot if they go to Florida State.  They just have to be enrolled at Florida State University and they automatically become hot.

The Chi Omega's at Penn State did their part to try and entice some of the hispanic players to think more positively about Northern Pennyslvania too....

Eh. Hot girls are everywhere. If he goes to UK, the state of Kentucky will know who he is and he will get the rock star treatment on campus.

If he goes to Florida State, he'll soon be marginalized by Seminole fans as they look forward to football season. Also Calipari is a much better NBA talent development guy than the FSU coach

A few ways this could backfire:

1: Kid could have parents that care about his morality.

2: Kid could actually be committed to normal relationships vs sleeping with  everything that has a vagina and moves.

3: Kid could consider the fact that between playing top flight basketball and school, he'll be lucky to find time for one girl.

That said, if he does choose to go there, I hope Satan himself treats this like a blood pact. That's a promise those girls need to be kept to.

Sex and girls is a risky offer before you know enough about the recruit. Many of my teammates, and classmates, including one prominent NFL player and one MLB'er, would be really turned off by this approach. Just like any other normal group of guys, lots of athletes only want GFs they really like and are not at all interested in sleeping around. Many come to college, like my Superbowl winning roommate (another NFL'er obvs), with a GF already whom they are faithful to and want to keep. I would guess 25% of the recruits I hosted in my 5 years were professed Christians and would be appalled at anyone using premarital sex to recruit them.

"Male athletes want to sleep around and hookup with tons of girls" is a pernicious stereotype. Yes, there were those guys, like another classmate of mine whom you all see on BTN, who do sleep with just about anything, but this group is way smaller in number than the, "I want to marry my GF!" Crowd.
