Just watchin the house across the street get raided by the police. Most likely drugs are involved. Ahh the world we live in. Bet this ruined their friday
OT: Friday what are you doing at work, what are you drinking, post something interesting, pos-bang thread
There's been two police cars parked out there all week long...
...their customers' Friday as well. Time to find a new source, I guess!
You just went above and beyond the expectation of "post something interesting". That is fascinating stuff.
Meeting. Bagels were free.
One fine day with woof and a purr, a baby was born and it caused a little stir. No blue buzzard, no three-eyed frog. Just a little feline canine CATDOGGGGG!
Summer classes are ridiculously easy.
Thank you! I've also been quite bored today. WTF, Profit, are you like "working?"
I'm waiting on test results and other data before I can update powerpoints. hooray information.
Here's a random topic that came up on the board the other day: Lebron James. Everything he does gets examined like crazy. Everyone seems to love him or hate him. I don't like the guy, and here are my reasons:
1. The Victory Party - you know, not 1, not 2... when he hasn't even won 1 ring. I thought it was a slap in the face at how hard it is to win one.
2. Immaturity - He doesn't always go to the podium after losses, throws dance parties after wins, danced on the court at times, the ESPN article that was taken down about him was eye opening. This is a high school kid who has never been told "no" before in his life.
3. His general exit from Cleveland/The Decision. 2 Cavaliers went from Cleveland to Miami that year. One took out a full page ad thanking the fans. One became a pariah. I think at this point even he realizes it was a bad idea in hindsight
Love him or hate him? He's pretty good at basketball, I really think his only limitations from being one of the greatest ever are mental, not physical.
Way to be original with the reasons you "hate" Lebron.
1. Victory Party- This event was organized by the Heat marketing team in order to drive interest in the team. Maybe he shouldn't have made the championship comment, but has there ever been an athlete who can make one incorrect statement and be ridiculed for ever because of it?
2. Immaturity- You complain because he "dances" on the court and has dance parties in the locker room? Have you ever watched professional basketball? Do you not enjoy watching people display their passion on the court?
3. Exit from Cleveland- Once again this goes back to point 1. Lebron has admitted and apologized for the way he handled this but people refuse to move on.
Point is that Lebron Haters are so irrational and hating Lebron has almost got to the same level as people who hate Nickelback. People have a hatred, but when you ask them why they dont have any valid reasons
of Miami do you live in? ;-)
Shockingly I am from the Cleveland area and have been able to move on. But it appears that others have not
1 - Had Lebron said something to the effect of "We're all excited, but we haven't won anything yet. We need you fans to come together (come to games - zing) and support us as we work really hard towards our goal of winning championships" that would have come off differently. Also, how must that party have made the othe Heat members feel when they weren't invited?
(sorry about the link)
3 - I think they all go together. Here is someone who is worried about his brand/self/legacy more than he is about being a great basketball player.
I think Wade has been a bad influence on him too. As ridiculous as the fake glasses are, does anyone think that MJ thought to himself "I just got my ass kicked in a game 5 at home to go down 3-2. I better find my fake glasses before I talk to reporters".
Contrast that stuff with Durant (ok, who also dresses weird). Tweeted about signing an extension with the team he's with. Hugs his mom, didn't have a championship party when he signed a contract, etc.
i personally like (not love, mind you) him b/c he's fun to watch (even lebron haters have to admit that) and he hasn't done anything particularly heinous as a human being (the announcement thing was stupid, but athletes have been worse things).
so it's always surprising to me how universally polarizing he is. the espn.com comment sections on heat articles are absolute warzones, and apparently the madness even extends itself to mgoblog!
We need reasons now for hating Nickelback?
Was it a foul at the end of the game last night?
I read this morning how the Thunder got screwed, but I watched the video, and while it would probably be a call at most other points of the game, and probably if it had been Joe Blow doing it, I'm not sure LeBron (or Durant if it was reversed) is getting that call in an end of the game situation. Unless you're hacked a lot more, you have to man up and make the shot. Has the NBA gotten that soft? (And I don't like the Heat at all...I'd have been happy to see it go in, or the whistle blow)
Yes there is a strong argument for that being a foul. However, there is also an equally strong argument for an offensive foul on Durant a couple minutes prior that would have knocked him out of the game.
Part of me screams "THATS A FOUL" part of me thinks "wait, the NBA refs tried to let the players decide a game?" and I'm OK that they let them play.
The rest of me thinks if the roles were reversed Lebron would have been on the line and the ref would have needed a police escort out of OKC.
That officiating last night was awful. The Heat got 10-12 absolutely free points from phantom calls and the botched goal tend call. I can generally live with poor officiating (see Big Ten) so long as it goes both ways, but it often doesn't in the NBA, and it sure didn't last night. I could have lived with the non-call on Durant's last shot if the refs had been calling it that way all game long, but they didn't. James and Wade drew calls from less contact than that several times. LeBron also wasn't called for his walk with the ball right after Durant missed the shot.
The goal tend and that missed foul were the only two glaring mistakes I saw. And to their credit, the fouls they called on Westbrook and Durant to get them in foul trouble were legit. I hate it when the league "protects" stars, and these refs didn't do that for the most part.
I don't have the time or the know-how to put together a clip of the calls that I'm thinking of, but Wade and James were bailed out two or three times each with calls that just weren't there. They also drew some crap but plausible calls, and Durant didn't even those.
Fair enough, but if you think that was a pro-Bron crew, wait until games 3-5. Home court advantage with the refs is very real in the NBA, so it's about to get a lot worse.
I have your back on all of these points. I also don't understand why someone need be "original" for not liking someone/something. If they are good reasons, they should be listened to. It's not like everytime a new adolescent learns and understands what rape is, they aren't required to find a brand new, undiscovered reason in order to proclaim it a bad thing.
We're criticizing one of Amercian sports' most popular villains, not writing a dissertation...
I can't stand Lebron. For very unoriginal reasons.
And to be honest, I LOVE me some MJ. I grew up in Chicago and now live there again, and I LOVE me some MJ. But I don't know how well he would have handled the limelight right now. It's a lot different than it was 20 years ago.
/side note. He would have LOVED the modern NBA. Flagrant fouls so the knicks couldn't beat the crap out of him, no hand check, he would have averaged 40+
I read the Jordan Rules a bit ago... how much would everyone freak out if Lebron or Kobe straight up bunched a backup Center for setting a hard screen in practice? MJ came around at the right time, when we aggrandized stars rather than tore them down. MJ also wen t to 3 years of college even after winning the NCAA tourney on a shot as a freshman. I'm guessing Lebron could have used some formative years like that. Lebron's a product of his timing.
Watching the office, season 2 episode 17 Dwight's Speach!
I learned so much about public speaking from that episode. I now always pound my fist when I talk. People take me VERY seriously.
Sitting in a car dealership waiting for my car to be fixed. Passing the time by learning about HIPPA and EMRs, incredibly boring.
Driving to wellston area for a mtb race. Lumberjack 100
Getting ready for a suffer fest in the heat tomorrow.
I'm headed to my cabin just north of there (Brethren) on Monday. Also it home to Darth Vader AKA James Earl Jones.
On a rivetting scientific meeting. Rivetting.
Thinking about which growler of IPA i'm going to open tonight.
I have a growler of your avatar in my fridge. I am likely to crack it open tonight.
On my way to get a growler of Lake Erie Monster at Heinen's. Got to love a grocery store with a draft beer option.
I like my mudroom with homebrew draft beer.
You suck. (((jealous))))
Except I do have my favorite (Alpine / Nelson ) and two growlers of Bad Boy double IPA from Alpine.
I still need to get my hands on Alpine's Nelson. Have you tried Widmer's Nelson? It's not bad.
Or much from Drake's? I had a Denogginizer with lunch.
Snob.. Alpine Nelson is so consistently amazing. It should be my avatar, but most people have no clue what it is. I'll have to try the Widemer
I've got to finish screwing around with work and get over to the batting cage for an hour. Then, I head back to the fatherland to salute my aging Pappy with my 3 droogs tomorrow. You never know when your last chance to Honor Thy Father has passed you by.
Enough of this small talk. You know what I am here for.
Starting a similar thread. Those plans have gone to the wayside
Should I put an MGoJen addendum to the post here? (Though I think we know the answer...she got drunk and chickened out).
You should really blame Profit....he was completely slacking today. We shouldn't have had to have dual threads.
Combine them lol. I saw her drunk update. I still demand further updates
I'm hoping to post them next week. Question: how do you imbed charts/graphs? I've never done one before and my information would be useless without them in the diary.
I've been busy this week with CI Blackbelt training, as well as training a few new people, so this weekend is more than welcome. Other than that, it has been a fairly quiet Friday for me, and for that, I am grateful. I am also currently plodding through face-to-face meetings to go over yearly evaluations for the folks under me and I am halfway done as of this morning. Two more meetings in the afternoon regarding that, and then I am pretty much even with work for 15 minutes until the next phone call from someone. Blackbelt training is very, very dry, but it is my only chance to destroy the system from within.
I have also decided to track the MGoPoints of the top 300 users for the next month or so and post the statistical analysis of their relative productivity as a diary post. I realize that this might be of limited interest, but I sort of do this stuff for a living and I had the crazy idea of doing this for MGoBlog. More than summary data, there will be actual metrics, so the post will basically be a blog version of the weekly huddles that I do.
The most productive MGoBlogger in the analyzed group gets a drink on me after the meeting at UGP on the 30th as part of my "Rewarding People Who Aren't My Employees" program.
Color me interested, you should start a thread when you finish this because I tend to not always track the diaries because my phone is garbage.
Please, no ponies on this board.
I'm in the 300. I wanna be analyzed
The 300 line actually stops at just barely above 2000 points. I did a straight bar chart with the first week's data just to see how steep the drop is between users, and it drops precipitously through the first 40 or so and then flattens out considerably.
You used to be able to sort out the user by mgopoints by voting, pos and neg, average...it was so much more interactive. Then the crash, and it was never the same...sniff sniff...
I remember that - I was here for the final months of it, and it was a far more thorough system. I actually thought about tracking fluctuations in karma too, but then it dawned on me that if karma held true then I would come back in the next life as a beta release of SPSS.
If anyone is interested, the data is mined between 5 PM and 6 PM on Fridays to allow for me actually remembering to eat dinner.
Damn, I better get posting.
I have done two black belt projects. Both were silly exercises for management. On one of them we learned that a line that didn't run large vials well didn't run large vials well. This wasn't a surprise, as the schedulers used to be operators, and they knew it didn't run well there, and thus never scheduled large vials on that line. But we had to do a BB project so management would believe them. Our solution, don't run large vials on that line. Whoa!!
Another we learned that one of our formulations cracked vials during lyophilization after investigating why we were cracking vials during lyophilization. The second one is the only one we got meaningful data from. The lattice formation was getting into the glass microfissures and expanding there . . . crack. Not a lot we could do about that as all the filings and development work was done in glass. So the high defect rate was just a cost of doing business. We tried all kinds of glass annealing, testing different glass suppliers, slower primary and secondary drying and yeah, no dice.
It was a pleasant boondoggle while it lasted. I have a nice certification and some stuff for my I LOVE ME wall.
We have a whole group devoted to this here - the Continuous Improvement Strategy Group. It seriously is a department inside the company whose purpose is to train and assist in the CI work of other departments. So, when I finish all this, I will have the certificate and help out in my own group - Distribution Operations, Planning & Design.
Of course, all the people they hired were from the auto industry, so the first step is explaining to them how a public utility works and hope they can meaningfully apply it to this sector. Actually, they've managed to run some successful projects in the plants (Monroe and Fermi in particular), so we have done OK with it here to date. We'll see how it goes with the folks I deal with daily - designers, engineers and lines personnel.
I am trying to picture doing fishbone diagrams and cross-functional maps with a few dozen overhead linemen in the room. That could be fun.
but the problem is the six sigma metric works great for parts but is bullshit for just about everything else.
Try applying it to non production entirely (engineering processes, wtf?). It's mandatory for all employees here. Total. Waste. Of. Time.
Does anyone think we have a realistic chance at landing Parise and Suter this year? I feel like to get both they are longshots. I think we could maybe get one, but I hear that the Kings, Rangers, Philly, and others are wanting him really bad. Also is anyone hearing anything interesting recruiting wise for football? Or are we just basically waiting for the BBQ to have any note worthy news?
Parise said he wants to try and work things out with the Devils, and that there's no way he signs with the Rangers. So if he's not signing with one Devils rival, I doubt he'd sign with another (Philly). Granted athletes say stuff like that all the time, but the way he singled out the Rangers makes me think he's being legit. Our hope has to be that the Devils financial future is too screwed up to make anything longterm not available for him.
As for Suter, Nashville talked extensions with him, but he turned them down for now, so he'll probably hit Free Agency, and rumors are that he wants to stay in the Western Conference, and that the Red Wings are at the top of his list
Hanging tough at the office. About to watch the EUROs.
to a Great Lakes Loons game tonight and just generally wondering when Tiger will choke the US Open away. My guess is Saturday.
He looks happy.
But despite being a Midland native and living 90 minutes away, I've never been to a Loons game. I've heard great things about the stadium.
great park. A couple of years ago, we saw Clayton Kershaw pitch....and now he's a Stah....
Just got offered a decent full time job this morning. Spending the day with the family and throwing back some Shandy.
That and now you can pos/neg people on mgoblog with your fancy 100 points.
With great power comes great responsibility!!!
Getting ready for lunch. Then hopefully play some golf tonight.
hummus and pita yom
My last day at my current job. Just sent off my farewell letter.
Moving to Seattle...
I didn't know things went to Seattle. I thought it was only from
Need an App?
(Or seeing how you cross state lines...Oregon?)
There's quite a bit of irony in all this, considering why I'm moving out there and what I'll be doing.
Moving from okc to start a 1 man bball team?
Come on over, need all the Michigan fans we can get over here
Considering he's not a Michigan fan.
Enjoying my 3 day weekend with some Dortmunder Gold and some call of duty this afternoon until the GF gets off work.
just another day at work...hoping to get out early to catch some of the Eng-Sweeden game this afternoon.
sidenote: any MGoLawyers know if notice of a contempt hearing must be served on the individual or is it sufficient to serve notice to just the attorney?
My school is getting closed this year...
We just finished up our work and are about to start our farewell party with a lunch downtown and then a Tiger game...
I will be drinking vodka and ice...
(Also, continuing to prep for New Home RenovationFest 2012)
I'll send you the Brief in opposition to summary disposition that I should be working on....
For any sort of responsive brief like this, just go the Joe Pesci route:
I have a couple of days off. Went to the beach yesterday, but I'm probably just going to go install my grandma's air conditioner today, cut the grass, and clean up the basement so I have room to install a power rack.
Hanging out at home, waiting for the end of a terrible week. I had to make 3 trips to the ER (two for me, one for the wife) and missed a whole week of work. My dx: asthmatic bronchitis with severe bronchospasm and the wife got 3 days in the hospital with pneumonia (and she is 4 months pregnant). I hope that the rest of you guys and girls have a good weekend.
hope you guys have a restful and healing weekend. also hope your wife's pregnancy goes smoothly from here!
I'm being very unproductive at work. However, when I get out at three then I plan on being productive. 30 minutes on the stair climber and a shoulder work out. Then my good friend captain Morgan is coming over and he's going to assist me in grilling some gourmet burgers. I'm thinking a couple stuffed with mushrooms and Swiss. Also I'll probably stuff a couple with jalapeños and cheddar topped with bacon. I make a garlic mayo for the mushroom swiss burgers, and like to finish off the jalapeño-cheddar-bacon burgers with some fresh lettuce, red onion, and BBQ sauce.
hanging out at work, doing what I can to complete my tasks. Fairly dull and straight forward.
Just attended the "clap out" at my son's school. He just finished 5th grade and is now a middle schooler. Oy. On my way to chaperone a pool party for his "graduating" class of about 70 energetic tweens. This may be an opportune time for a Xanax?
But not my usual 14-16 hour day. It's my one scheduled night off till the exam and I'm enjoying the city and walking down to the Tigers game tonight
concert, because I live in the country I guess...
Pretty busy day. Scrambling to get things ready for a couple real estate closings next week, and working on the originations for a few other upcoming closings. Hoping this day ends with things coming together well.
Slow day at work? Might be a good opportunity to work on your computer skills...
doing last 75 day's expenses/mileage (accounting hates me), headed out for cliantro/lime/chopped steak tacos down the street, a couple XX's, then home for the weekend.
waits as long as you do to pay you for expenses. So if you don't file for 75 days, they wait 75 days to pay you back after you file. It works. I file on the first day.
on the flipside, I usually accrue until the payback is a meaningful amount ($2+k or more), and ask for a an actual check rather than payroll deposit. I then do the mother of all grocery runs and some serious bar re-stocking/beer fridge replenishment and a whole bunch of one-offs (stuff for the boat, little league necessities, vehicle tune-ups, and other stupid crap for which I don't normally budget).
We actually get to put all that stuff right on our timecards - it's about the only thing I like about how we use SAP. Provided your manager signs off (for they approve my time), we see it paid back in the pay period after the reporting.
So I'll be leaving at 1:30. Then its off to baseball practice with my son and tomorrow he's camping at David Garrard's football camp in Durham. Wife leaves town on Sunday and I'm going to put in a mailbox garden for my fathers day present to myself.
Contemplating how well the slightly sour/sweet champagne mangos from Costco will taste blended with frozen strawberries, rum, and Grand Marnier when I get home.
Also rubbing my hands at confronting a patient who is trying to get narcs from me after he was/is on suboxone treatment.
I was at the game. Garlin's singing was terrible - I think he may have been drunk.
Also, the "Let's go Tigers" chant broke out a few times stadium wide and seemed pretty loud. Hopefully it was audible on the broadcast.
Impressive outing by the Tigers fans yesterday.
for the Italian overlords. I can't stand a couple of the arrogant pricks that will be in the room. If they weren't paying me well, I'd post a pile of dog shit on slide three with an "EAT ME" caption.
One of my recent clients had just recently been acquired by a Spanish firm. The owner was a Franco supporter in WW2. Not going to say anything more, but its funny how oblivous people are to history.
Boss is out this week so as far as what I'm doing at work, well.... you're looking at it.
The wife is ditching me this weekend to go to a bachelorette party, so probably lots of hanging out in my underwear this weekend. Anyone see Promethius yet? I might go catch that during an afternoon showing this weekend.
1. Anyone downloaded the "Zombies Run" app for droid or iPhone? Seems like a fun concept...Worth the $8?
2. 10 team 3 keeper ppr. Keeping A Rodgers and G Jennings...Do I keep Gates or Shonn Greene?
final day of the school year, have no other responsibilities until August....WOO HOO
I went to Ann Arbor of the night to see the girlfriend, now I'm headed up north or the weekend. Should be a good one.
Why not Ann Arbor of the day?
The nastiest and dirtiest of then too. One day I hope to be IN a pool, not picking dead livestock out..
After many delays in the construction I think my vet clinic is going to be open by the end of next week.
Leaving for a job as a camp counselor in the White Mountains of New Hampshire early tomorrow morning so I have been busy today getting my affairs in order. Will have no internet connection for 2 months so I guess this is goodbye for now.
How would we have known you were gone?
I'm kind of pissed that I found this OT open thread after posting in the other one.
First day of summer break. I'm planning on doing nothing until September.
That I'm thinkin' about how many prunes Herm had for breakfast. May God have mercy on my pitiful soul...
Prune pitiful soul?
So, I have had frozen blueberries on my recently surgically assaulted blueberries while trying not to enjoy the Vicodin too much.
My urologist is a Michigan grad, so we actually talked about Michigan football while he did it.
It's funny, usually when I think about this football program, I get warm and tingly in the right places. Yesterday, I was trying to talk in between sharp stabs of discomfort at those very same parts.
TMI about your tinglies.
...Please NEVER combine MGo and vasectomy ever again. It's painful on too many levels. On a side note, I now also have an aversion to blueberries. Thanks pal.
We're all pals here..but not that close.
I love you so much.
Plans to go home and drink homebrew with the neighbors around the pool unless the omnious blob of storms in the eastern gulf heads this way (TBay)... Then we'll drink beer and play cards inside. Gonna brew a hybrid Belgian Strong + Black IPA Saturday and take the kids fishing on Sunday.
Drinking our customary Friday Beer (Shorts IPA today) at work a little early before heading up north.
Getting ready to leave since I hit my 40 hour mark 48 minutes ago and I'm not paid overtime. Fun part of the day: there was a beautiful brand new 2013 Lincoln MKZ - no, you can't buy one yet - parked in front of the building today where there always seems to be something gorgeous parked. Largely because those are the spots reserved for the real mucky-mucks.
Tonight is the Windsor Overnight race on the lake, and the wind forecasts look like ass so I'll probably be sitting on the boat fighting off fishflies and wishing I'd just gone to the dock party instead. 4-8 knots is what is known as "lame."
In DTW waiting to connect to GRR. Spent the last 4 days in Seattle for work...first time I've come back to Michigan to warmer air than where I left.
Flew into Atlanta yesterday and now performing unicode conversion for PeopleSoft Finance and Cognos reporting applications, obviously with enough time to get a quick mgoblog fix. On a bad note, missing fathers day with my family this weekend...bad timing for the prod conversion.
GIVE ME BACK MY LONGJOHN MOTHERF*CKER!!
a few posts up.
On a lighter note, 1-year anniversary of the opening of Chick-fil-a in Chicago, got a free chicken sandwich for lunch.
More seriously, realized it's time for a change in career and am quickly deep into the process of trying to get ready for applying to MBA programs. Undergrad at Ross, really want to go to Fuqua for their Health Sector Management program...any MGoPoster's out there also Duke alumns?
I'm not a Duke alum but their Health Sector Management Program does intrigue me as well. However, I graduated last year from Ross BBA so I have a few more years before I should apply to the MBA programs. Are there other MBA programs you're looking at that specialize in Health Management? I believe Northwestern has a program like that as well.
Then Euro2012, then chill on the deck with some Two-Hearted Ale.
How would you rate Capital Grille compared to other steakhouses/restaurants? I've never gone but am always tempted to go.
Damn this work day needs to end soon, yet the finish line keeps pulling away from me.
I will enjoy some beers tonight with added exuberance.
Well, the strategy to keep other groups within the company out of our way went out the window yesterday. We got reorganized into another division within the company and are now in the same boat. Oh well, never a boring moment around here.
Want to get off this last conference call of the day and have a nice Shiner Wild Hare while watering the garden given its in the 90s today. Need to go back to Binny's and stock up again tomorrow. Choices, choices, choices....
I think you guys outted me. :(
Went to the Nats/Yankees game with a buddy of mine (Yankees fan) It was crazy how many Yankee fans were in DC for the game... "Let's go Jeter" was an audible chant...
all evening! Though the worse time to work is during a football season Saturday when Michigan is playing! I have to use my smart phone for score updates!
