The 300 line actually stops at just barely above 2000 points. I did a straight bar chart with the first week's data just to see how steep the drop is between users, and it drops precipitously through the first 40 or so and then flattens out considerably.

I remember that - I was here for the final months of it, and it was a far more thorough system. I actually thought about tracking fluctuations in karma too, but then it dawned on me that if karma held true then I would come back in the next life as a beta release of SPSS.

If anyone is interested, the data is mined between 5 PM and 6 PM on Fridays to allow for me actually remembering to eat dinner.

I have done two black belt projects.  Both were silly exercises for management.  On one of them we learned that a line that didn't run large vials well didn't run large vials well.  This wasn't a surprise, as the schedulers used to be operators, and they knew it didn't run well there, and thus never scheduled large vials on that line.  But we had to do a BB project so management would believe them.  Our solution, don't run large vials on that line.  Whoa!!

Another we learned that one of our formulations cracked vials during lyophilization after investigating why we were cracking vials during lyophilization.  The second one is the only one we got meaningful data from.  The lattice formation was getting into the glass microfissures and expanding there . . . crack.  Not a lot we could do about that as all the filings and development work was done in glass.  So the high defect rate was just a cost of doing business.  We tried all kinds of glass annealing, testing different glass suppliers, slower primary and secondary drying and yeah, no dice.

It was a pleasant boondoggle while it lasted.  I have a nice certification and some stuff for my I LOVE ME wall.

And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know it’s going to be Michigan again. Michigan!

We have a whole group devoted to this here - the Continuous Improvement Strategy Group. It seriously is a department inside the company whose purpose is to train and assist in the CI work of other departments. So, when I finish all this, I will have the certificate and help out in my own group - Distribution Operations, Planning & Design.

Of course, all the people they hired were from the auto industry, so the first step is explaining to them how a public utility works and hope they can meaningfully apply it to this sector. Actually, they've managed to run some successful projects in the plants (Monroe and Fermi in particular), so we have done OK with it here to date. We'll see how it goes with the folks I deal with daily - designers, engineers and lines personnel.

I am trying to picture doing fishbone diagrams and cross-functional maps with a few dozen overhead linemen in the room. That could be fun.

Does anyone think we have a realistic chance at landing Parise and Suter this year? I feel like to get both they are longshots. I think we could maybe get one, but I hear that the Kings, Rangers, Philly, and others are wanting him really bad. Also is anyone hearing anything interesting recruiting wise for football? Or are we just basically waiting for the BBQ to have any note worthy news?

Parise said he wants to try and work things out with the Devils, and that there's no way he signs with the Rangers. So if he's not signing with one Devils rival, I doubt he'd sign with another (Philly). Granted athletes say stuff like that all the time, but the way he singled out the Rangers makes me think he's being legit. Our hope has to be that the Devils financial future is too screwed up to make anything longterm not available for him.

As for Suter, Nashville talked extensions with him, but he turned them down for now, so he'll probably hit Free Agency, and rumors are that he wants to stay in the Western Conference, and that the Red Wings are at the top of his list

If you're doing nothing, how do you know when you're finished?

Hanging out at home, waiting for the end of a terrible week. I had to make 3 trips to the ER (two for me, one for the wife) and missed a whole week of work. My dx: asthmatic bronchitis with severe bronchospasm and the wife got 3 days in the hospital with pneumonia (and she is 4 months pregnant). I'm being very unproductive at work. However, when I get out at three then I plan on being productive. 30 minutes on the stair climber and a shoulder work out. Then my good friend captain Morgan is coming over and he's going to assist me in grilling some gourmet burgers. I'm thinking a couple stuffed with mushrooms and Swiss. Also I'll probably stuff a couple with jalapeños and cheddar topped with bacon. I make a garlic mayo for the mushroom swiss burgers, and like to finish off the jalapeño-cheddar-bacon burgers with some fresh lettuce, red onion, and BBQ sauce.

We actually get to put all that stuff right on our timecards - it's about the only thing I like about how we use SAP. Provided your manager signs off (for they approve my time), we see it paid back in the pay period after the reporting.
