OT: Friday what are you doing at work, what are you drinking, post something interesting, pos-bang thread

It's SOOOOOOO slow at work today, and there's so little content to be had in mid-June...post something for everyone else to read.  Anything interesting, funny, OT...just in (relatively) good taste.  I've read the whole site now, I think.

Edit: In case some mod thinks we don't need two pos-bang threads (because there's sooo much going on today) Michfan1997 demands an MGoJen update. (OK, demands might be too strong a word...powerfully requests?)

Incidently, trying to add that to the subject too, I have found out there IS a limit to how long a subject in a post can be.

Thank you! I've also been quite bored today. WTF, Profit, are you like "working?"

I'm waiting on test results and other data before I can update powerpoints. hooray information.

Here's a random topic that came up on the board the other day: Lebron James. Everything he does gets examined like crazy. Everyone seems to love him or hate him. I don't like the guy, and here are my reasons:

1. The Victory Party - you know, not 1, not 2... when he hasn't even won 1 ring. I thought it was a slap in the face at how hard it is to win one.

2. Immaturity - He doesn't always go to the podium after losses, throws dance parties after wins, danced on the court at times, the ESPN article that was taken down about him was eye opening. This is a high school kid who has never been told "no" before in his life.

3. His general exit from Cleveland/The Decision. 2 Cavaliers went from Cleveland to Miami that year. One took out a full page ad thanking the fans. One became a pariah. I think at this point even he realizes it was a bad idea in hindsight

Love him or hate him? He's pretty good at basketball, I really think his only limitations from being one of the greatest ever are mental, not physical.

Way to be original with the reasons you "hate" Lebron.

1. Victory Party- This event was organized by the Heat marketing team in order to drive interest in the team. Maybe he shouldn't have made the championship comment, but has there ever been an athlete who can make one incorrect statement and be ridiculed for ever because of it?

2. Immaturity- You complain because he "dances" on the court and has dance parties in the locker room? Have you ever watched professional basketball? Do you not enjoy watching people display their passion on the court?

3. Exit from Cleveland- Once again this goes back to point 1. Lebron has admitted and apologized for the way he handled this but people refuse to move on.

Point is that Lebron Haters are so irrational and hating Lebron has almost got to the same level as people who hate Nickelback.  People have a hatred, but when you ask them why they  dont have any valid reasons

1 - Had Lebron said something to the effect of "We're all excited, but we haven't won anything yet. We need you fans to come together (come to games - zing) and support us as we work really hard towards our goal of winning championships" that would have come off differently. Also, how must that party have made the othe Heat members feel when they weren't invited?

2 - read this: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzRY0yltRz9ANzc5OWEyN2YtZjM2Yy00NmFjLWE4MWYtNmFlN2JiZDRmNWFi/edit

(sorry about the link)

3 - I think they all go together. Here is someone who is worried about his brand/self/legacy more than he is about being a great basketball player.

I think Wade has been a bad influence on him too. As ridiculous as the fake glasses are, does anyone think that MJ thought to himself "I just got my ass kicked in a game 5 at home to go down 3-2. I better find my fake glasses before I talk to reporters".

Contrast that stuff with Durant (ok, who also dresses weird). Tweeted about signing an extension with the team he's with. Hugs his mom, didn't have a championship party when he signed a contract, etc.

so it's always surprising to me how universally polarizing he is. the espn.com comment sections on heat articles are absolute warzones, and apparently the madness even extends itself to mgoblog!

Was it a foul at the end of the game last night?

I read this morning how the Thunder got screwed, but I watched the video, and while it would probably be a call at most other points of the game, and probably if it had been Joe Blow doing it, I'm not sure LeBron (or Durant if it was reversed) is getting that call in an end of the game situation. Unless you're hacked a lot more, you have to man up and make the shot. Has the NBA gotten that soft? (And I don't like the Heat at all...I'd have been happy to see it go in, or the whistle blow)

Yes there is a strong argument for that being a foul. However, there is also an equally strong argument for an offensive foul on Durant a couple minutes prior that would have knocked him out of the game.

Part of me screams "THATS A FOUL" part of me thinks "wait, the NBA refs tried to let the players decide a game?" and I'm OK that they let them play.

The rest of me thinks if the roles were reversed Lebron would have been on the line and the ref would have needed a police escort out of OKC.

That officiating last night was awful.  The Heat got 10-12 absolutely free points from phantom calls and the botched goal tend call.  I can generally live with poor officiating (see Big Ten) so long as it goes both ways, but it often doesn't in the NBA, and it sure didn't last night.  I could have lived with the non-call on Durant's last shot if the refs had been calling it that way all game long, but they didn't.  James and Wade drew calls from less contact than that several times.  LeBron also wasn't called for his walk with the ball right after Durant missed the shot.

The goal tend and that missed foul were the only two glaring mistakes I saw. And to their credit, the fouls they called on Westbrook and Durant to get them in foul trouble were legit. I hate it when the league "protects" stars, and these refs didn't do that for the most part.

I don't have the time or the know-how to put together a clip of the calls that I'm thinking of, but Wade and James were bailed out two or three times each with calls that just weren't there.  They also drew some crap but plausible calls, and Durant didn't even those.

And to be honest, I LOVE me some MJ. I grew up in Chicago and now live there again, and I LOVE me some MJ. But I don't know how well he would have handled the limelight right now. It's a lot different than it was 20 years ago.

/side note. He would have LOVED the modern NBA. Flagrant fouls so the knicks couldn't beat the crap out of him, no hand check, he would have averaged 40+

I read the Jordan Rules a bit ago... how much would everyone freak out if Lebron or Kobe straight up bunched a backup Center for setting a hard screen in practice? MJ came around at the right time, when we aggrandized stars rather than tore them down. MJ also wen t to 3 years of college even after winning the NCAA tourney on a shot as a freshman. I'm guessing Lebron could have used some formative years like that. Lebron's a product of his timing.

I've been busy this week with CI Blackbelt training, as well as training a few new people, so this weekend is more than welcome. Other than that, it has been a fairly quiet Friday for me, and for that, I am grateful. I am also currently plodding through face-to-face meetings to go over yearly evaluations for the folks under me and I am halfway done as of this morning. Two more meetings in the afternoon regarding that, and then I am pretty much even with work for 15 minutes until the next phone call from someone. Blackbelt training is very, very dry, but it is my only chance to destroy the system from within.

I have also decided to track the MGoPoints of the top 300 users for the next month or so and post the statistical analysis of their relative productivity as a diary post. I realize that this might be of limited interest, but I sort of do this stuff for a living and I had the crazy idea of doing this for MGoBlog. More than summary data, there will be actual metrics, so the post will basically be a blog version of the weekly huddles that I do.

The most productive MGoBlogger in the analyzed group gets a drink on me after the meeting at UGP on the 30th as part of my "Rewarding People Who Aren't My Employees" program.
