OT: Friday POSBANG/open thread

Submitted by ChopBlock on

So it's Friday afternoon and no one wants to work. A fresh 12 inches here in the Mitten (at least for those on the west side of the state) should give us plenty of opportunity to do some skiing, sledding, etc this weekend. Took me over an hour to shovel the driveway this morning.

So what are you up to (besides wasting the workday on MGoBlog)? As for me, I'm plotting the purchase of a last-minute gift for my father's birthday. Deciding between the utilitarian (but more affordable) option and the pricey but enjoyable option. What say you, MGoBlog?

I'm heading up to the Microbrew and Music festival up in Traverse City after work.  Plus it's my friends birthday (HI MITCH), so I plan on making sure he gets extra drunk tonight.

If cost isn't a big issue on the gift, I suggest splurge and get him the more costly one.  I can't remember one time I've been sorry opting for nicer when gift giving when it comes to parents!

Oh, and would someone please (pos)bang me this afternoon?  I'm doing some end-of-week projects that are pretty stressful!

We got pounded last night.  Sent my UTV/plow rig in for routine service a couple days ago - what the hell was I thinking?  It's supposed to be here in a little bit - have 700' of driveway to do before poker game at 6:30.

Might enjoy a Crown on ice whilst cleaning up the snow.

Visit Gates Lodge, stay there or camp at Burtons or Keystone and buy a few flies from the shop in exchange for advice on the day.  Be humble and understand they know more than you and they'll set you straight.  I especially like the streamer fishing in March and chucking giant wake-making things in the middle of August nights.

that's a special place.  There's so much beautiful water in OR, you could spend a lifetime knocking around. I was lucky enough to spend a couple years kicking around Oregon and SW Washington, basically living like an animal while steelhead-bumming.  Buddies of mine "worked" at Steamboat and Telluride, partying and chasing ski-bunnies - I was alone skating dry flies and self-teaching spey fishing, drinking Rainier and poking at campfires on a hundred different gravel bars.

It's a weird addiction.

I'm an attorney.  I just filed a motion in one of my cases.  Fifteen minutes later I was informed that the hearing date I had chosen is President's Day., so I have to re-do all the paperwork.

Facepalm.

Classic.  But it'll never beat my bonehead first-year mistake.  We sent out a notice of bar date to all creditors of a bankrupt debtor (thousands!!) that had the wrong date - it was January of the next year and I put the current year instead.  The notices all had to be resent.  Probably cost $1000s.  Oops!  The funny thing is that the partners weren't even that upset.

Im a teacher in Detroit and we had a snow day.  What was planned on being a day of lesson preps turned into a day of netflix and looking at houses for sale in Detroit.  Its amazing some of the mansions that are available for under 100k

If your dad is like mine, he'd prefer the utilitarian option. My dad also doesn't like people to spend money on him. If I want to pay for dinner when we go out, it becomes a death match to snag the check from his 84 year old fingers.

As for today, I'm spending the snow day with my son and his friend at Airtime Trampoline Park in Troy.

And will be celebrating Michigan's return to #1 in 24 hours!

Go to the bathroom, don't return to the table, and then three days later announce publicly that you've accepted the University of Cincinnati job.  Tommy Tuberville style!

Working, but it's been a relatively straightforward week. I live in a condo, so no shovels to speak of. Plus we only got 2" where I live in the city of Chicago. Coordinating plans for drinks tonight... that's about it. Oh, and watching GIFs because Ace doesn't want me to be productive

My toddler caught a cold from preschool and he infected me, my wife, and both of my parents who were visiting this past weekend.  He is now doing great after a few days of feeling miserable and I'm headed to the doctor to get a f-ing antibiotic.  Preschool germs are tremendously horrendous.

Great question.  For some reason, my body does not take well to toddler viruses and they always turn into secondary UR infections.  So, I've got that going for me, which is nice.  First time I've been on an antibiotic this school year though.  Last year, five f-ing times.  And I'm supposedly healthy.

I did okay when my daughter was in pre-school but she started kindergarten this fall and man, those elementary schools are like little mini hot-zones.  At least one person in our household has been sick for as far back as I can remember.  Anything that doesn't kill you, right?
